Wow, that chilli picture is really sharp and also very creative in the setup, quite interesting:-)

Just yesterday I was playing around with the macro function since this flower over night popped out off some bundle of green leaves I have in my back yard and always wondered what it was ... not creative, I know, but I'm happy enough with the sharpness. It's taken with a default Ixus55.

That's a Sigma 105mm macro lens. I've never used one before so was really interested to see what it produced. That second shot is taken at F32, so is sharp from the front to the back of the picture. The first one is taken at F2.8 and there is virtually zero depth of field, the top right of the 'O' is sharp and the rest of the frame fades off; I really like the effect.

We don't have many flowers here just now, everything is dead.

Nice pics Steve. With such a lens, you can really play with depth of field settings and create very nice effects.

Pfft ! On my budget?

I'm actually a bit peeved to see the D300 on the shelves just now because I bit the bullet a couple of months ago and upgraded to a D200.

I have 2 bodies now tho, which will see me through any situation that I can think of, and the D200 is a cracking piece of kit. I'm starting to pick up a bit of work and the D200 is superb, the print quality at A4 is flawless and the 5fps is plenty fast enough. The D70 was a little overwhelmed occasionally, but it's a great backup.

My next purchases will be more glass. I come over all misty eyed when I see those 70-200 F2.8 lenses, so a D3 will have to wait. It does look like a great camera though....

I only went for Nikon beacause my pal had one, there's nothing to choose between the 'Big2' I don't think, but I do believe that I became a photography nerd the day I picked up my first DSLR. Once the bug bites there's no going back.
