I have been dicking about with CD's of my current photos.

Also like many of us I have an old shoe box with a few 100 maybe more photos from years back.. Now of course I could go, buy or borrow a scanner, sit there and do the job myself, but surely in the land of low wages someone would take that job off me ??

If it worked well I would get my mums photo albums and the whole family batches and get them all scanned and return her the originals and some DVD's.

Some of these I would really like to secure and preserve / backup.. Pics of me as a kid on the tall ships race, some stuff that I would like safe from fires and trouble.

I have seen online that companies will do this but its like 30c a scan.. I have possibly 1000's of pics, that runs expensive then.

Anyone know a Thai company or person that would like to scan pictures as a side job for a few days ?? Maybe someone working in a net cafe ?? Seems easy but I dont know anyone.

I've got a scanner at home Lil but feck if I'm going to sit here for 3 days scanning your ugly mug into pics, but you are welcome to borrow it, if you can talk Bee or someone into scanning them for you. Office girl (dunno her name, seems to respond to 'office girl' though) might do it for you for a few bahtees.

A normal scanner probably wont do a great job...

I mean unless you wanna mixture with the brightness/contrast etc for each picture..

I would consider taking it to a shop.

I've had the photo stores do it for me several times. It's not generally a priority job for them so it can take a few days and you do sometimes have to do a little cleaning up after (white edges, not quite straight etc) but it beats the sh1t out of having to do it all yourself.

The Fuji shop in Karon, the shop by the circle in Chalong (RHS on the way to Kata, 50m from the circle), the shop by the dental clinic on the Phuket town road from Chalong circle have all done it for me in the past, as well as the one on Sai Nam Yen near the stationery store at the traffic lights.

I have struck a deal with the Kodak shop just opposite the offshore...

Not actually had them do it yet, as I forgot the pics last 2 days.. But they have agreed a cheap price and if the work is done well I may even get the family albums brought over and digitized.

Somewhere recently I read a review comparing 5 or 6 scanning services based from the US. If I remember correctly, one of the ones with the best reviews was a company that outsourced to India. I don't know if I have the stomach to part with a lifes worth of photos in such a way (although it may not be any riskier than sending them to the corner store).

Anyway, I've been searching around for this article and haven't found it yet. (I have a lot of shoeboxes)

I also would like to transfer my childhood reg 8mm films soon before they just crumble away. Bought a hand viewer on ebay but never took it out of the box.
