Appreciate some feed back!
Been working on some magazine layout's for my portfolio, naturally the originals are in much better quality but this is what i can show you with 100kb limit.
Right now my portfolio consists of mostly illustrations, large scale designs, motion graphics and advertisements, so this is something brand new to me which is why some feedback would be great..
You photographers have a keen eye for details, help me out please.
Indesign was used for the layout and Photoshop for the montage.

i'm not a pro at all, but it all looks very nice. Especially the 2nd one : nice picture and the use colors and fonts gives the whole a professional look.
Nice job!

They look great to me from what I can see. Is this for publication or or a project of some sort?

Thanks. And no this is only a fictional magazine that i did to expand my portfolio a bit.. The company i work for now is great, but the money is not very competative, hence i need to start looking elsewhere or perhaps go freelance, and for that i need to prepare a solid portfolio.

I suppose in international terms my current position would be somewhere between junior and senior graphic designer.
However, it's quite hard to define, i know people who do the same thing as me and call themselves Art director, which i would never consider myself at this stage.

Yes i love my job.. but it can be frustrating at times too. Hard to stay creative all the time, its very much tied to emotions and surroundings for me, so sometimes i can sit at the office for a whole day and just think about a concept, while other days i do a weeks work in a day, but i havent missed a dead line yet, *I probably shouldnt have said that*
About freelance jobs.. I really have no clue, i do have some contacts in the area but not enough to secure my bills every month.

Great work. Can't critique it professionally. It just looks right - which often means a lot. Thanks for the 3-step breakdown. I'd say that you have a gift for design.

Thanks everyone for the feed back i really appreciate it.
As for the shop i was looking to rent is something totally different. I would try to do both but its not exactly easy, and to go to expensive lawyers in Thailand now is not an option.
I actually entered a business idea competition with the idea, and i got some usefull and positive feed back on the idea, however they all had the same concern as me and thats the legal part in Thailand. Besides this shop would most likely not make alot of profit in the beginning. A lot of focus would be necessary on marketing, and right now i dont have capital enough for a bad year and without that i might aswell throw the money in the lake.

That's a bummer for now, but very good to keep a clear mind around it. One idea could lead to another with persistence and motivation!

Yup. I guess many decent business-plans have been killed here due to the start-up costs and whatnot. And if you are even somewhat successful, you then get the Thai copy-cat business opening next door. You could’ve done a great marketing job (creating a “need”) and just have someone else feed off of that. Or even being physically threatened --- or worse --- by the competition.
Not really related but I just had a long chat with a good (TG) friend who works as a manager at a “spa” on Nanai. She had the audacity to criticize the work of the cleaning / gardening staff awhile back, and now she has been physically threatened by them. The other day this (out of province) guy came up to her with a machete in hand and said that if she reported more negatives to the boss… well… “I know where you live.” Poor girl. She then called some of her local friends (great guys to drink with, but sort of on the “shady” side) and had them flash their guns at the guy. I mean, I’ve had my share of uncomfortable office experiences, but this is in a whole-nother league. Things seem to be dealt with in a rather different way here than back home. To say the least.

It was more a Soprano's reference.
My brother lives in Jersey and Hoboken is a fun little scene. He used to take the ferry from Manhattan to Hoboken, tie one on and catch the train home.
