Violence in los

After reading plenty of reports on recent troubles in the Tiger Disco, I would like to try and get some kind of idea of just how much violence may or not exist in the tourist areas.

I won't include 'upcountry village' incidents between thai's as that is a different matter to fights breaking out in all our regular spots.

I myself have only ever witnessed 2 catfights between bg's although I have gone back to a beer bar the next night to find a few scandavian 'best friends' had blacked each others eyes after I had left earlier the previous night.

So I thougt it would be interesting to see, wether in the street, beer bars, discos, laundry shop, hotels or wherever...day or night.

Cool

I have been to Pattaya, Patong, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui and in all 10 trips to LOS, I have never seen any violence.

The number of fights I have witnessed is still very few compared to what I see in Sweden, fights every weekend at the clubs.

I have seen all of above but I cant say it is common, but happen once in a while. Patong is still a very safe and people who get trouble more than often cause it by themselves.

I saw two farangs started to fight in the toilet in Tiger a few weks ago, dont know how serious it went since i just got out of there..

I also saw a bunch of thai guys beating eachother half to death outside galaxy disco last year.

That is two incidents. Overall i think Patong is much safer than most european citys.

Was in a bar in Ao Nang a couple of weeks ago. There was a Swdish woman (about 40 years old)off her tits. She said something to one of the girls from the bar.BG went crazy and landed about 4 good punches before she was dragged away only to break free and land one more punch which knocked the swede off her seat.Swede then picked a bottle but was quickly deposited out on to the street were she carried on screeming and shouting for about 10 mins.Everyone just ignored her so she staggered off licking her wounds.
Would love to know what she said to BG

Violence in los

With the big number of charter tourists that go to Phuket in these days its no big diffrence from other
holiday resorts.
Bangla is packed with a lot of people around the beer bars there and you have some incident from time to time.
It will always be some drunk people that cant behave
Dont think its better or worse than other plases.

You will always have some incident in that places and in the night clubs at closing time.

But to say LOS is Violent i do not agree

Another poll option would be have seen the reults of fights, but not sure what caused them. In Pattaya I saw about two bleeding farangs per week, usually sitting on the kerb or being carted off to hospital, but didn't see what happened beforehand.

Also there is no option for "Have seen Katoey slap a policeman and get slapped back"

When i was in Tiger last December a fight broke out between different groups of tourists. A group of young lads were dancing but very drunk! When of them fell over into another group of men sitting at a table, knocking their bottle of vodka over. So of course all hell broke lose................... I was about to pull them apart when the local bouncers turned up (lucky I think!) and tried to sort it out! Of course the young lads only had a few hundred baht left between them. But the other group tried to claim alot of other "smashed bottles" as theirs! In the end I got too drunk to care.

But thats not the only trouble I've seen in Tiger! I've seen a Farang 'bottle' another, then leg it in to a crowd inside Tiger. Then there was the incident when a tg got violent because a friend wouldn't pay her for talking to him while we were sitting in there! There have also been a few hand-bag incidents between groups of Thai and Thai, Farang and farang, and mixed.

I suppose some of this trouble, could be down to the couple of years I spent as a bouncer myself. So I sometimes i can see something about to happen, through bodylanguage or the way people are 'acting'. I think alot of people wouldn't see them as generally they last 10 - 20 sec's, before most fizzle out.

I stress that these incidents are spread out over a number of years now! If i went out on a Saturday here in England, I would see 20 times this amount in one night!

Over the years I have have seen alot of fights. Most of them we could not workout how they started, I guess just alcohol fueled. Alot of them have been BG's on farang, and then I guess farang on Thai man, very few if any farang on farang.

Pretty much all the fights I’ve seen (four in all) over the course of nearly four years have been late at night on Soi Sansabai.

One time me and a friend were sitting at the corner, and two BGs started to have a go. Then one of them took off her high heels and started thumping it in the other girl’s face. Blood gushing. And even though there was a crowd, nobody did anything. As a kneejerk I guess me and my friend got up and separated them. Just cannot stand seeing someone “stabbed” in the face.

The ugliest one was about two years ago driving a motorbike on Nanai late one night. Just below Sun Hill (on the top of the hill at the taxi stand) there was a group of about 10 Thais standing around. Girls too. Just in front of me on the road was a motorbike with two Thais. Then the one guy on the back pulled out a machete and slashed it across the chest of one in the group. The girls started screaming and I just barely managed to avoid crashing into them. Not pretty.

The only ones I have not seen was a Thai guy v Thai guy...

Seen four Farang v Farang fights, One upstairs in Tiger, One underneath, One in Safari and another one on Sansabai...

Seen 3 Bgs on Bgs, One in Soi Eric, One in Tiger and another one on Bangla...

Seen a farang guy nearly choking a LB under Tiger for pulling out of him, Seen a LB attacking a BG down Sansabai, And then out of nowhere a Thai bloke come out of the Pizza place a gave the LB a flying kick in the head, And gave the LB another few digs and kicks for good measure, Until the LB fled in tears protesting her/his innocence...

Ehh that sounds like a lot actually, But what you have to bear in mind, If I was out everynight in Dublin on the piss, I would see at least 3 fights a night.. The ones I seen in Patong are over a collective 3months.. So thats quite good actually...

PS: I was never in any fights in Los myself, Just seem to be around the vincinity when then erupt

A friend of mine was asleep in his home in the Paradise Complex one night when a racket outside woke him and his Thai wife up. They peek outside and see two ladyboys arguing fiercely. And it was about to turn physical. They (the LBs that is) were both dressed in nice gowns like the ones you see in the cabarets. Then his wife starts laughing. Apparently one of the LBs - as the fight was about to start - said:

“Come on. We’re both a coupla men aren’t we?”

Guess it’s hard to forget your past when things starts heating up…

The only fights I saw on my one and only recent trip to Phuket were quite brutal. I even witnessed a rather hot Swedish girl beat the crap out of a thai girl. But these fights were confined to the Bangla Road Boxing Stadium! On Bangla and the Soi's leading off it, I never saw even a sniff or hint of violence or tension.

I know it happens here, but I was more than cormfortable on my solo trip here last November every single night that I went out. In the UK, you always have to have one eye looking over your shoulder. Chances are that in LOS, if you dont go looking for trouble and can handle your drink, then trouble won't find you. There will always be exceptions to this rule, but if you can't handle your drink and/or you go looking for it, then you deserve what you get.

This has just reminded me of an 'incident' on my first trip!
In the old boxing ring/bars on Bangla road, they used to let tourists fight each other. So one night two Irish lads were in the ring. It started out with both of them just mucking about, putting on a show for the watching tg's. They were just going through the motions when one accidently landed a good punch. So the other twated him back, then the 'real' fight began. They were kicking and puching each other with real fury. I think the Thai ref ended it early. A couple of days later I saw the two again, sitting on different sides of a bar, not even looking at each other, while their friends tried to have a good time without them.
