Why Thailand?

Hi Guys

i was just wondering why you spend your vacations in Thailand and how did you hear of LOS as a great place to visit?

with me it's a family thing. some of my relatives visit phuket since the early 80's. since then i came back a couple of times with my family and i really fell in love with the place. and since i visit los without family the fun-factor is even greater

cheers
iltis

I spend my vacations in Thailand for the pure raw liberated sex. In a way it's a "family" thing for me too-visit a member of an overseas family.

I went to travel agent looking for a skiing holiday, got to Phuket, realised I was in the wrong place, and just went on the piste. Never been skiing since.

Well i was kicked out of uni in australia due to attendance (long story), my parents live and work in thailand (phuket) so i'm here now, working for my dad's company, loving it, not enjoying living with the parents but that will soon change once i get my own apartment. Otherwise whats not to like, just to recap what everyone else has said, GREAT food, Low cost of living, GREAT beaches, GREAT ladies. Its simple, want a nice beach go down south, want a mountain go to the north... For people planning their holidays i used to recommend Singapore as a base, but now that i've been around thailand, i recommend thailand. Because you have other great countries only a short flight away as well, i.e. Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philipines and Indonesia.

Ill throw my 2 cents in here. When i was 13 my dad brought out Kickboxer (yes the movie with jean claude van damme) And i thought wow Bangkok looks pretty cool. I said then one day i would go and when i was 23 me and my ex girlfriend split up for a reason i still dont know to this day. For 3 days i decided what to do and then i remember booking a trip to Bangkok. (i didnt even realise i had done it till after i had booked it) Went there again a year later only to Phuket and Bangkok aswell. Loved it. Great people and had a ton of fun both times. When i left los the second time was very upset. Unfortunatly never had the money or time to go back but hope to put them right this year.

Here's some blather about my introduction and continued participation in the LOS.

A friend of mine knowing my preference for Asian girls suggested I go to Thailand several years ago, I told him I didn't have enough money for a vacation and he laughed. I'd only been to London and Amsterdam and didn't understand not everywhere in the world is so expensive on holiday. Then after a lot of unpleasantness dating arrogant and demanding American girls I came across a personal ad for a girl in Thailand. It was posted by her brother in law, married to her sister for about 6 years. My first trip to Thailand was to meet her, my second was to marry her! Looking back I have no idea what I was thinking, I guess loneliness and boredom can make a man do some pretty irrational things. At the time of course I had heard about the P4P scene but didn't see it when I was there, obviously my wife wasn't too eager to introduce me to that. I later found out the hotel we stayed out was right around the block from NEP. Well our marriage was very short lived. Even though we rushed into it, I really thought it would work and basically believed all this BS the brother and law had fed me about Thai girls being ideal wives. I only blame myself for wanting to hear such blather. I had thought it would be a great benefit having her family near by but it turned out the family wasn't so interested in me and had basically used me for a green card. I don't blame them for my mistake but they certainly didn't help.

Luckily I quickly got out of the situation, after a brief tug of war where she wanted to stay here permanently and have me support her, divorced or not. I felt pretty down for a while and was sure I wasn't going back to Thailand. Strangely after that situation I stopped caring what girls thought of me and ironically started having more success in dating, however being jaded from marriage I just didn't want a serious relationship. I decided to return to Thailand I didn't know what I would do there, but I felt like I couldn't let Thailand "master" me, it's hard to explain but I just didn't want to be another sucker ATM farang down for the count. So I spent a year studying Thai learning all I can about the culture and went back much less green. I took a buddy with me and we had a blast, my Thai is pretty limited now 2 years into it but knowing even a little proved great fun with BG's and Taxi drivers.

So I wish all along I had listened to my friend and gone there on holiday but I'm thankful the door did get opened for me even if I had to waste a few years on a pointless marriage to do it.

A few friends of mine just went for 3 weeks in Rome, I was wondering if I'll ever go to Europe again? Well maybe if I can get a tourist visa with a lovely BG for a few weeks I will I guess I didn't really talk about what I love about LOS, I love the struggle to master my desires in a land of illusion and temptation. It's a fertile playground to explore the depths of one's soul, for better or worse!

For us we have always traveled to LOS as a couple or as a family...mainly as a family...we love it for all the reasons everybody else mentions...except we just don't take girls home...LOL

Also it is a great place to base yourself if you wish to travel to other destinations in Asia as opposed to trying to do this from Oz which is 8 hours flight to anywhere even close in Asia (unless you live in Darwin)...that's our future plan when we move to LOS for a year or two...we can enjoy LOS with all its benefits and have some great little visa runs!! A veritable holiday away from a holiday

Another reason for "Why Thailand?" specifically Phuket for us, is that there is good International schooling for our son...what a great opportunity for him for a year or two!!

SAFETY. Besides all the other things that people said, LOS is very safe. I have never really felt unsafe there, not anywhere I have gone and I have been to some pretty out of the way places. I think Mexico is pretty safe, but it doesn't have as good of a scene with girls, because of the Catholic culture. Brazil and the Philippines are known for the girls, but it is also said you really have to be careful there, that there is danger. Cuba is probably safe, from what I've heard, but it is a hassle to get there from the US, since it is technically illegal to go there, you have to go via Mexico.

Besides, I love Thai food and traditional Thai massages. Plus it is close to Cambodia and VietNam.

Also, the Thai people really do love to have fun. And the girls really know how to make sanuk maak maak!!

This is the best comment that I have read on this board in a long, long while.

Not something that came to mind when I think what I like about LOS, but when I see you say, it really strikes a chord, and I realize that, for me, at the root of it all, that is what it is all about, a journey of self-discovery!
