The Beatles vs The Stones

when I was a kid growing up in OZ this was the biggest question on everybody's lips.....you were either a stones fan or a beatles fan...so which one were you or have you discovered since (for the younger BMs)

For me it was the Beatles at first as my parents bought me the albums....and I can still remember the first time I heard "Love me Do" on a radio on Manly Beach after just getting out of the surf and drinking a vanilla milkshake.....guess I was probably about 10 or so....strange how some memories stick with you...555

Took me a little while longer to appreciate the Stones as they were more rocky and were aimed at an older audience.....but once I did there was no going back to the Beatles....

If I ever did a complilation rock CD (not a big rock fan these days) I would definitley have "Painted Black" + "she's like a Rainbow" on it.....too bad they have become a parody of their former selves....but not yet as bad as (the footage of) Led Zepellin which I saw on the news last night.....they were truly awfull

Never really saw much appeal in the beatles, too fluffy and not enough depth.

Although I am not a massive stones fan, they have produced some exceptional music. Sympathy for the devil, some of those Richards guitar licks.. Awesome !!

Yes this was a big debate in high school. For me at first it was the Beatles all the way. They pioneered Rock recording. I think they recorded Sgt Peppers on a 4 track. Their lyrics, chord changes, musicianship and harmonies are perfection.

But later on I was interested in the blues and the Stones were great at it. Plus they had the Fcuk all attitude, the look and they were the bad boys. I remember a tabloid article. "Would you let your daughter date a Rolling Stone".

The great thing about these bands and the whole British Invasion was that they were recording songs by American Black Artists. Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson. As well as some white R&R by Carl Perkins and sold it back to America. White mainstream America in the early 60's was pretty much oblivious to this music because of racism on the radio. The young British kids couldn't get enough of it. The British Invasion helped these artists make comebacks and more money then they earned in their previous days.

Beatle or Stones? I gotta have them both.

Beatles for me, Stones do not even enter into the same league, in my opinion.

When last home I found a little book I had made when about 8/9 yrs old, of Beatles cards you used to get with chewing gum, not the entire set but wonder if it has any value to some weirdo collector somewhere?

I remember when I was at school it was always Elvis or the Beatles, no contest there the Beatles win hands down. As for the Rolling Stones, they are just the greatest rock band ever.

same same you Nels,

Beatles when i was too young to appreciate The Stones. Then The Stones took over.

I would say The Beatles are consistantly very good throughout their catalogue but The Rolling Stones have the very best tracks though fewer in number.

It's the Stones for me. But I came quite late into this, maybe when I was around 16-17 and was trying to get some grips of guitar playing. Stones, Hendrix, Clapton .... great thing about the Stones was that they opened the doors to Chuck Berry, whom I really didnt know that well before.

I'm just purely amazed about Keith Richards and how he survived his excessive lifestyle:-)

They say when the earth is in ruin there will only be the cockroaches and Keith left. The cockroaches will be gone next.

I think the Beatles have the more comprehensive catalogue of classic tunes but prefer the Rolling Stones 'bad' image.That said, when the Beatles entered their psychedelic phase they were at their best imo.So Beatles overall

Pity about John.......with songs like Imagine he still had a lot to offer

Whose music would you say has stood the test of time. I still play a lot of Rolling Stones but get bored after a few minutes of the Beatles, it seems somehow "dated"

For me I can listen to either although the early Beatles is a bit dated.....but not the late 70's work.

Stones = Rock
Beatles = Pop

At first I liked the Beatles, but later on and still today I prefer the Rolling Stones. I don't have much records/cd's of both of them though. Saw the Stones in Holland a few times and have a couple of live cd's of them.

Favorite songs are Sympathy of the devil, Honky tonk women and a couple more of these oldies.

But I prefer more the music of Yes, Supertramp, Genesis (until Hackett left) and of course Pink Floyd. Next to that I like U2 as well.

The Beatles vs The Stones

The Rolling Stones are heavier rock n roll where as The Beatles were a pop rock band who evolved into an early progressive act. They ended up like quite different bands.
Beatles did stop their touring in 66 or so,Stones just started and still do.

Can anybody imagine a figure like Ringo in a Rock,n roll band today ?

Beatles was once a time a great pop band,but its gone 20 years now.

Can only understand that they could compare these band in the early days,
when both was playing old basic us i inspired rock and roll.

Best Stone,give my vote for Wild horses and Dead flowers
