Too Much
I agree, especially when I know the real or very close to it price.
Now my Thai and Lao is improving I just ask in those languages when shopping by myself. It basically says dont stuff me about.
When shopping with my friends I say nothing for a while and then start my naam dta (water eyes or eyes water) that gets a laugh from the shop keeper
and we get to a better price quicker.

Whatever they ask tell them a third is what you will pay and then work your way slowely up - If you don't want it don't even start to haggle, place your hand in the stop position and shake ur head saying sorry...
BTW never state your price first - Always wait till they tell you what they want.

I don't really haggle anymore as such. What I mean is I know what I'm going to pay and if they don't like I leave and go next door where usually they have exactly the same thing and at my price. Or so close to my price it does'nt matter.
p.s. Bafana's idea is a good way to start haggling if that's what you want to do. I love the expressions on their faces when all you offer is a third. LOL
