GF comming to the cold north

Well the time where my GF is arriving to Denmark from Thailand is getting closer. She will arrive on Monday the 24th and stay for at least 6 weeks. I cant wait to have her here with me for that long and I am really looking forward to seeing how she will like Denmark.

Undoubtedly it will be a culture shock for her to say the least. The mentality of the people, the food, the weather etc are all totally new experiences for her and she is starting to feel very exited now. Also it will be her first trip outside Thailand and the 11 hour flight is something she is feeling a bit scared about.

Her family is mostly concerned about how she will do about the food, so I had to promise them to take good care of her and make sure she gets some Thai food as well lol.. Well that's actually good since I love Thai food and dont really fancy the Danish crappy food.

It's funny to talk with her on the phone these days and last week she was out buying gifts for half of Denmark ;o) You gotta love them

She is naturally feeling pretty intimidated by the fact that she is going to meet my parents but I am just laughing and feeling good about that, because I went through that sh1t last month when I met her parents ;o)

I took the first two weeks off work so I can spend some quality time with her to begin with and then it's back to the 08-16 job.

I'll make some posts from time to time about how she is doing here in this thread.

Hei Michael!

I promised my wife a trip to Denmark this summer, so if it's ok with you we will stop by and say hello. I hope everything will be fine with your TGF and I am sure she will love Copenhagen, like I do.

Frode that would be superb and I'm sure my GF would love to have a chat with you wife as well. My GF is scheduled to go home on June 8th, but I'll try and see if I can get her visa extended 3 weeks more.

Let me know when you plan to come and then we can meet up all 4 of us ;o)

Its awesome

Hi Hep,
My GF is with me in Sydney as we speak. She has been here for 7 days and loves the place. After getting over the jet lag(1st O/S trip), we are having a great time so far.I have taken 4 weeks off work(spent 2 weeks in Thailand with her and her parents and another 2 over here so she can adapt)...
Dinner is great...she is an amazing cook and loves to cook every day..(funny thing is that she asks me what we will eat the next night when we go to bed
She is scheduled to be her 3 months but her visa is for 1 year but maximium stay is 3 months at a time...so if she goes back and then comes again, its the airfares that will kill me...
One thing is for sure...If I knew it would be this good then I would have done this along time ago..
Good luck...but you will not need it..just give her time to settle in and then have a good time...

Good luck HEP and have a great time, and its an experience. I brought Ead to Sweden for a 3 weeks holiday and it was great, also learned that she viewed many things completely different than i thought.

I loved to read the posts from Ozskin, ETV and Jonas experience with their girls at home, and hope to read more from you.

Hmm curious, was that before or after you bought the bar? And if it was after how did you go about leaving stuff behind for 3 weeks?

First time I turned on the computer today... Well after an intial delay of 7 hours of the Thai Airways plane to DK she arrived monday afternoon and was totally busted. Luckily she was bumped up to their "business class" so she had a pretty good flight. Monday we didnt really do anything besides relaxing and talking (and her sleeping.) A couple of funny things was when she asked me to open the windows because the silence was getting to her.. "why no noise? why no fan? why no people shouting?" hehe.

Another funny was when we drove from the airport and she looked at the trees in disbelief.. She never seen so many "dead" trees before hehe.. Tried to explain that soon they get leaves again and they only look like this in the winter :o)

Tuesday we went to meet my parents and sister and her kid (15 months). That went very well and she really liked them and vice versa. We also went to a Thai supermarket and she was almost extatic because "hab everything same same bangkok" ;o)

Wednesday we had to go out and buy a jacket for her and some sweaters. She brought a cowboy jacket herself and then loads of t-shirts, but that's still a bit to cold here. Basically spent the day shopping for her, which she enjoyed. Right now she is cooking dinner - I tried to go out and help but she keeps kicking me out of the kitchen.

She is still scared to meet my friends. So far she met my parents and sister and that went really well. This saturday she is meeting my best friend and his girlfriend and I think she is kinda worried about that one. On May 3rd, I'm turning 30 so on May 6th I'm having a birthday party with loads of guests - I dont think she is looking forward to that one ;o)

All in all she really likes it here and seem to enjoy herself and all the new impressions. One issue is the food though - she is not really that big for farang food, but we will see how it will go after a week more.

And for me - I'm having the time of my life. Really enjoying this and all the cultural differences and different views makes it even more enjoyable.

Istedgade 134 i København. Big one there. Also down by central station and Istedgade (rewentlowsgade or something like that) there are two smaller Thai places.

GF is really pleased with that.. One thing I'm not so pleased about is that one of the places actually had Durian fruits.. damn they smell bad and the GF loves them ;o)

A quick update.. Girlfriend is having a good time here. Looks like she really enjoys Denmark and enjoys being here. It was not as cold as she had expected, but she does still find it cold though.

Luckily the weather has changed this week so we have lots of sunshine and happy days right now.

She is positively surprised by the amount of Thai people, Thai supermarkets/shops and Thai restaurants.

I get a lot of funnies from her – The things here are so different from Thailand and it is all so new to her. The past days here she has always wondered “where are all the people?” because although I live in Copenhagen I don’t live in the center of the city. Well this Wednesday the weather was superb so we went into Copenhagen for some sightseeing. I took her to a place called “Nyhavn”, which always is filled with people drinking beers and enjoying life when the weather is good. The look on her face and her shouting “Oh look at all the people” was just priceless. We also have a big walking shopping street in the middle of Copenhagen that we walked around on for about 1 hour – “Good Soi” was her comment :o)

The past two weeks I have been on vacation from my work, but this Monday I start work again. She is a bit worried and intimidated by that, but I’m sure it will work out fine. She already met most of my family and really likes them so I told her that she can just go visit them and hang out with them while I’m at work. My sister has a 15month old girl and my GF is just absolutely in love with her.. She keeps talking about her and says “Kid tung Natascha”. Sometimes I wonder who she likes the most – me or Natascha hehe..

Tomorrow, Saturday I will be having my 30th birthday party with family and friends – She is pretty exited about that one.

Oh and by the way – I don’t think I have eaten so well before in my life.. I love Thai food and she is superb at making it. I cooked some food for her as well and some of it she liked and some of it she didn’t. Most of the farang food is ok for her though so that’s pretty good. Some nights ago we ordered food instead of making it. I ordered pizza but she told me that she didn’t like pizza so we got her some pasta instead. Well it turned out that she ate half my pizza anyways because she really liked it.. damn and I thought I could keep the pizzas to my self ;o)

How do you stop time… Today only 1 week until the GF heads home for Thailand. That’s gonna be a nasty one for both of us.

We have had a fantastic time together and she has really adapted well to living here. She has no doubts that she can live here in Denmark with me so that couldn’t be better.

Therefore we have taken the consequences and are actually getting married here in Denmark tomorrow.

That is the first step on the way to get her to come live in Denmark permanently. On Monday we will head into the Danish Immigration department
