can this be right 54.000 baht

i know i put typed up something about this before about paying for visa cost to agency to get everything done for me was 35.000 baht but i just been told by email that this cost doesnt include the 19.500 set fee you pay to the embassy for a visa can this be right if not ill go somewhere else for my visa charge.
I know a few of you guys have told me what you paid 4-5 years ago and told me im being ripped off but you know aswell as i do Thailands prices are very unpredictable with these sort of things and have been on the increase since 4 years ago so if someone knows for sure thats its roughly this price and i should go ahead then let me know as i dont wanna get to Bangkok in September wasting time looking around for a better price if im only gonna save a couple of thousand baht .......

Sounds a bit steep 35000, heard a lot about those and more around 15000 what i remember hearing.

But then as an EEA resident in the UK I have no worries about visa, only about family permits

I have always done the applications myself without an agent.. Of course I am on the ground to do so though..

I dont feel agents actually do much for thier money.. They expect a lot for some form filling and going over the checklist.

I have not seen a higher strike rate for agents than simply people applying but if your missus is A) no english B ) shy C) afraid of authority or D) a bit of a muppet and your not there to sheapherd her through it I can see how that then becoems really tough.

As stated I have always been here trying to go there not there trying to get her to me.

Exclamation

Last month (June 2006) I paid £235 to an agency which is roughly 235 * 70 = 16,450baht and the only other thing that I sent money to my teeluk for was the cost of the visa which was £50, 50 *70 = 3,500baht. I sent her this money as she had to go to the bank and get a bankers draft herself, the agency don't do this, but helped her understand what she needed to do, i.e. she spoke to someone in Bangkok in Thai.

I have used 70 as an approximate exchange rate for £1.

If you want the name of the agency I used, send me a PM. They also have a website which gives loads of information and also states how much they charge.

For my GF's 6 month multi-entry UK tourist visa, I paid in the region of 20,000baht for everything DO NOT PAY 54,000baht !!

But a settlement visa is going to be more expensive.. The visa alone is about 20k..

I have no experience at all with settlement ones..

Unfortunately the OP does not state exactly which visa he is talking about. Perhaps if he gave full details of what he is trying to do then maybe we would stand a better chance of giving help to him

If he is referring to a "fiance visa", then I suggest he fully understands the following which is taken from the website of the agency that I used...

FIANCEE VISAS

In order to obtain a fiancée visa a wedding in the UK may be booked at either an Anglican Church or a registry office. When the applicant submits the visa application in Bangkok the Embassy will sometimes give her a pink slip asking for details of the booking. The applicant should fax this to the sponsor in the UK. The sponsor can then take this to one of the 76 designated registry offices who can then book a date and supply confirmation of this. The confirmation should be faxed to the British Embassy in Bangkok who will then contact your fiancée to return to the Embassy when the visa will normally be issued.

After your marriage in the UK form FLR(M) must be completed to allow your wife to start her two year probationary period and allow her to remain in the UK after the expiry of her fiancée visa, the Home office charge £335.00 for a postal application and £500.00 for one made in person. Applications must be made no more than 28 days before the expiry of the fiancée visa.

Therefore there are some financial advantages in considering marrying in Thailand and applying for a visa as a spouse, but it is up to the parties involved to decide which route to take.

WARNING: The British Embassy in Bangkok are very well aware that applicants sometimes offer fake employment records, references etceteras when applying for visas to enter the UK, often done on a computer. They do check them thoroughly through the employer and wish to see proof of employment in the form of the Thai language employment contract (English language contracts have no validity in Thailand) and proof of Thai Income Tax paid to support the period of employment and salary.

It is NOT true that Thais who work in bars or have no employment cannot get UK Visas, they can and do. Honesty is the best policy.

Recently there has been a spate of various nationalities, including Thais, being granted visas and then accidentally 'losing' their passports and going back to get another visa stamped in a new passport. The British Embassy is taking extremely harsh measures over this.

WAITING TIMES

As at April 2006 the British Embassy in Bangkok is advising that waiting times for UK Settlement Visa interviews are approximately three months from the date of submitting the application forms. All other visas are normally dealt with within one month.

CHANGE FROM THE EMBASSY

Since 21/4/2006 applications for visas are accepted for processing by the British Embassy at VFS Company, 2nd Floor, Regent House, 193 Ratchadamri Road, Lumpini, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330 Tel: 022541098-9 and NOT directly by the British Embassy. Opening hours for applications are 08.30-15.00 Monday-Friday. After approval visas can be collected between 15.00-16.30. The office is very close to Ratchadamri Sky Train (BTS) station.
.
TYPES OF UK VISAS

Please note all fees are quoted in Thai Baht. Fees for UK Visa applications are not refundable in the event of refusal or cancellation.

As the fees are set by Parliament in sterling but payable in local currency there are often fluctuations in the currency exchange rates used abroad. Below are the current charges in Thai Baht as from 8/06/06. There is a surcharge of Baht 455 payable to VFS in cash in addition to the following.

Six Month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa Baht 3750
1, 2, 5 or 10 Year Multiple Entry Tourist Visa Baht 6375
*Student Visa Baht 6375
*Work Permit Visa Baht 6375
*Husband/Wife/Fiancee/Child Settlement Visa Baht 19500
*Certificate of Entitlement Baht 6375
EEA/EU/Swiss nationals working in the UK under the provisions of the Treaty of Rome and exercising their treaty rights to bring a spouse or family member to the UK. Free of charge.

*From 1/12/05 all applicants for long term visas MUST take a TB test BEFORE the visa application can be submitted. The test costs Baht 2050 and is to be arranged at the IOM Centre, 9th Floor, 54 Harindhorn Building, North Sathon Road, Silom, Bangkok 10500. Tel: 022347950-5 Fax: 022347956.

At 19,500 baht for a Settlement/Marriage Visa for the UK, sounds steep but consider the same visa fee for australia, at 42,000 baht.... price set by the embassy in bkk, i think you guys have it lucky.

Add on top translation fees etc its starting to add up. I handled the application process myself from start to finish after substantial homework and good help from places like the thaivisa forum.

We have been waiting 4 months now, are confident but tired of waiting..
best of luck jason!
