So my girlfriend been here in Sweden for 5 months now. Im surprised how well she adapt to everything here not only the culture but the food and the climate aswell. I knew she was quite westernized even before she came here, since she was working for a foreign government in Thailand when i met her and she got a BA degree in English which i suppose helps alot too. She has started to learn some Swedish and im very impressed so far. She is not allowed to study Swedish in school yet unfortunatly, she gotta wait untill she gets the resident permit for that.
The Schengen Visa (Friends and family) was surprisingly easy to get. We went to the embassy i brought a few documents stating my income, bank account and such and she filled in whatever papers we had to. Everything
was pretty straight forward but the queue in the embassy was quite long. She had a 3 min interview and everything was finished. We went to Phuket for a week and then went to the Swedish embassy to pick up her passport with the multiple entry stamp.
Now she's been experiencing 3 seasons of Sweden, we arrived here in the summer which i guess was a good thing, so she could get used to the dropping temperature step by step. We also spent a week on vacation with
my family allmost right away when we got here. She loved it there, and she would stay in the water even longer then me and i am supposed to be used to that cold water!
She's going home very soon now though to apply for the residence permit, thats gonna suck for sure, gonna miss her like crazy! Anyone know how long that part usually takes btw? I heard they speed it up a bit.
Now the next step i guess would be to learn Thai, i would love to be able to communicate with her family and friends In BKK, i will try to do an intensive course next time im down. Untill then im stuck with all these learnings softwares. Rosetta stone, Pimsleur etc but realy, they are better then you think if you just stick with it!
She's going back home 2nd January i hope it starts snowing here again soon, i realy want her to experience a real winter before she's going back home but with the wierd climate changes we are having here right now it might aswell start snowing in May instead of November/December as it usually does. I guess i will have to take her up north as she realy would like to see some more snow before she goes back home, perhaps teach her to ride Snowboard!
