sending letters to thailand
Hi
I am sponsering my Thai girlfriend to come to UK for a holiday and need to send my bank statements etc to her for the visa. I fully trust her so there is no problem with that. Is it best to send letters via Royal Mail or is there a better alternative. Also how long does it normally take?
Thanks in advance!

Fax her or email her.
They only need copies - Be sure she can be trusted though and make sure she is there to get the copies straight away - Get her to ring you when she has recieved them.
Best of luck

It would probably be better to send them through a good courier company like FedEx,UPS or DHL which require's a signature on delivery and also has a good tracking system, I might cost an extra few quid but at least then you'll know whether they got there or not...

I am curious what this means "sponsoring" for a visa. Is there another process that I am not aware of other than the tourist, fiance, or married visas?

Hi Tom,
If the UK is the same as OZ basically what it means that you guarantee suport for the person for whom you are applying for a visa. In OZ if you apply for a partner visa you become the sponsor of that person and guarantee to support them for 2 years. You may at any time within those 2 years withdraw your support. In this case the person you are sponsering may have to return to their country of origin.

Does anybody know if the U.S. allows this sponsorship? It might be an easier way to get my GF over to visit

I've been told that some "Postie's" will open the letter and search for money if they can tell a farnag guy is sending a letter to a tg....then ditch the letter of course.

My experience is that postal system works in most cases but I have lost mails sometimes. It usually arrives within a week but sometimes it has arrived after few weeks or even after two months in the worst case.
But most of the time it works fine, but not that reliable as in Europe.
If something important, I would recommend DHL, FedEx or UPS. I usually use DHL myself.
