You forget about Cruyff (spelling?) don't you, but he really was something else. And what about Maradonna? I know he was a little fat cheat, but jeez he could play football.

I thought Maradona was The Hand of God..?
If you accept the premise that the only good footballer is a dead footballer then Best is now ahead of (most of) the field...

1) Maradona
2) Pele
3) Best
4) Zidane
5) Daglish
6) Cruyff
7) Beckenbaur
8) Plantini
9) Eusabio
0) Zico
Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Nedved, Henry could feature in future, But for me they have not done enough in the game yet to be included....

It is not about playing for the best team. It is about the BEST player. You are missing the point of genius

You have made your opinion clear who you think is/was the best player , but aren't others entitled to their views.

Sir Bobby Moore would have to be up amongst the greats in my opinion, but we all wanted to be George Best when I was a kid.
Gordon Banks is another one I rate amongst the best. Pele, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, I think Gazza had a chance up until he stupidly broke his leg, he was never the same after that.
Puskas, Jairzinho, Zidane and Zoff I suppose would make up my 10 along with Maradona.

Stanley Matthews surely must rank in here somewhere the guy played on til his 50's, how come he never gets in anyones top ten?
For me Bestee had to be second only to Pele.

Another difficult one IJ but interesting to see what people think.
My top 10
1 Maradona
2 Pele
3 Bobby Moore
4 Best
5 Banks
6 Cruyff
7 Zidane
8 Ronaldinho
9 Zola
10 Greaves.
A few nearly in the 10
Van Basten
Zico
Beckenbauer
Zoff
B Charlton
P Maldini
Matthews
D Law
and some who are destined for greatness
T Henry
W Rooney has it in him but has a way to go yet.
Bet my picks are controversial

Only one I can see is Bobby Moore, Other than leading England to there only World Cup... What else did he achieve?
Dont get me wrong for most English people alone that would be enough and if he was Irish and lead Ireland to the World Cup then I would probably pick him aswell
But it is a bit biased when you consider a player like Beckenbaur who was a much more accomplised defender and won everything in the game...
If I was putting a Goalkeeper into my top ten, It would have been Banks... He was exceptional....
Also Greeves was a brilliant player, Shame he missed the final or maybe he would have gone on to achieve more and possibly be higher in the list....

I think you had to see a few more of Bobby Moores games to understand just how good he was Ally. He stayed with an unfashionable and unsuccessful team in West Ham but his reading of the game was and still is second to none.
His rivalry with Pele in the 1970 finals in Mexico encompassed all that was great about him. Even Pele thought he was the best at defending.
Although Beckenbauer was a great defender and leader,IMHO he can't hold a candle to the great Bobby Moore. Its not about achievements, its who is the best player. If you look at achievements, did Gordon Banks win more than Bobby Moore. No he didnt but he is still the best keeper ever IMO.
You young whippersnappers have missed most of the great players as you weren't even born when they were at their peak

I have seen a lot of him Dawsey, I have loads of Videos and watched a lot of football from the 50s,60s,70s....
But cant see it I think he is overrated, IMHO Beckenbaur was the Best defender ever, But we'll have to agree to disagree....

I've seen all the old football video and TBH I dont think the olden days players would stand a chance agianst modern players, for a starter they all ran funny.
Its like anything, world records just keep getting broken, which suggests people are getting better at sports etc...

But what you have to take into account also is the tools sportsmen and women have to work with now, Compared to what they had back in those days....ie just in football alone the pitch's are 10 times better as are the Boots, The Ball..etc.. Nowadays they are being able to Train(Full time) and not have to work another job, All the vitimins and suplements that they didnt know about then that inhance's your performance and im not talking about steroids... Just the quality of life alone can inhance a players performance because that dont have to worry about anything else other than football... All these things add up....
