i know your retort will be american football wear pads, but beckham had a foot injury and looked to be walking around fine. there is no way 95% of american football players are leaving that game with a foot injury if they can walk still
also, the argentinian goalkeeper against germany
im really not trying to rile you guys up but ive watched every game and it really amazes at how easily these guys will come out of a game, a world cup quarter-final game at that,so easily!!
again, i am really not trying to start an american football vf futbol, its just my observation from someone whos come to appreciate the sport in the last year

I think Beckham came off with an injured ankle. You could see he was in pain when he tried to play on and pass the ball. For such an important game,no good being the big hero and staying on the field when there is another fresh guy waiting to take his place.
It wouldn't happen in Rugby, they want to play on, whatever.

I can't see him playing for United next term, and I'm a United fan. I think every football fan in England will be baying for his blood, and if Wayne Rooney, aka Shrek, was looking for me I might be thinking that a move to Spain or Italy would be smart too...

Thought it weas a pretty ordinary game actually...........England defended brilliantly........ but in attack...well what attack
Portugal looked like they were throwing cream puffs at the townhall with their attack and were totally clueless...........so many poor shots on goal...with the amount of territory they had they should have won 10 nil after Rooney was sent off.......
And for England to miss that many penalties after the backs did all of that great work defending..........particularly in extra time....hopeless....even Gerard didn't look like he had a clue how to take one!!!!!!............Riccardo must have looked 10' tall and bullet proof to them............and so he was!!!

Robinson 7 (Ok, he never had much to do, but he had done all that could be asked!)
Carragher 7 (Played well out of position. should of never been replaced by Hargreaves at full-back for 1 game.)
G.Neville 7
Ferdinand 7 (Don't like him. But he did reasonably well.)
Terry 6 (Only played well half a game. Cleared the ball off the line, but HE should of never allowed the chance by not reading the flight of the ball.)
A.Cole 3 (Never have or will think he is much of a player. Defense he was as worful as ever. But going forward never offered much! Bridge should start.)
Campbell 5 (Never really played.)
Carrick 7.5 (Played well when called upon. Passing was the best thing in Ecudor game.)
Hargreaves 8 (Never should of been full-back, but wasn't his fault. Never stoped running and tackling. If he could cross, England would of won easily)
J.Cole 7.5 (Up until the WC, thought he had no finished product. But game against Sweden showed this had changed. Was V lacking in last game though)
Lampard 2 (WOEFUL!)
Gerrard 7 (Scored twice from midfiled. Not as effective as for Liverpool, but Tactics and more management support for other midfielders stoped his game)
Beckham 4 (Was only in the team for the F.A. sponsership money. Made 2 contributions to the cause. Cross for Crouch and the freekick that went in.)
Lennon 8 (Did very well when given his small chances. Should of started!)
Owen 5 (NOT FIT. Should never of been a starter. But injury prevented him from making any impact.)
Rooney 6.5 (Did ok, but didn't set the world alight. IS not suited to playing as a Target man. Never looked like scoring. Temper problems always hold him back)
Crouch 8 (Should of started every game. The one English threat. When brought on against Portugal, scared the hell out of the defense. They couldn't cope. Was easy for them against Rooney.
Sven 1 (Had no idea what he was doing from the start. Selection of Walcott was a stunt, never ever was going to play. Perfect if he would of came on to play left side of mid at the end of last game, to offer support for Crouch and pace on both flanks. The formation used [4-1-4-1] was never going to work in an attacking way. Very Very defensive in the way he used it. Automatically selected players who were not on form or never looked likely to be. As the Bangkok post said, should of been sacked after the first 2 games!)

Yes thats more like the real ratings... Only one I would disagree with is A.Cole, Thought he started badly but finished the tornament great, He would have gotten a 7 for me, But the rest I pretty much agree with...
Btw Dawsey, From what I seen of the match England deserved to win it, And had not been for the little Manc fcuker (Thats tongue in cheek btw..) getting sent off they would have been through, Its hard enough playing 11 v 11 in the quarter finals of a world cup, But having to play with 10is always going to be a big uphill struggle and even then they still created the better chances at the end, And IMO didnt deserve to go out and would not have if they had not gone down to 10.. Would I have choosen them if I knew Rooney would have been sent off?? Of course I would not so IMO it does not prove anything.. I still believe they could have gone all the way but it was not ment to be, And we will never know whether I was right or not...

It looked to me like Portugal were playing for penalities from the 20th min onwards. Only one team was trying to win the match, and it wasn't the team in red!

I was thinking about this the other day. Outside of Europe there is only South America (and maybe Mexico) that produce world class teams. The real contenders for the World cup seems to be some countries from Europe plus Brazil and Argentina.

Cannot agree at all with you Petter, England were under the cosh from the start, Argentinian referee? yeah right he will be unbiased!!! they were not playing well in this match nor the competition but reached the quarter finals!!! Rooney sending off was a farce but if Portugal had played all night they were never going to score, remember how you guys rated Portugal as an oursider and how they beat another of your favourites Holland, well they didn't beat a 10 man England in 120 minutes, penalties, we lost on penalties and that was with a crap manager with 9 midfielders and no forwards, could we have won this year? I think should of but not with Sven and his mis-management and look who we got coming next, Mclaren another really inspirational guy!! with absolutely no track record of proven management, should have got Wenger or Mourihno.

England's World Cup Campaign
Well Ally need it with teaspoons as you now
To be onest England was as expected, notting new
when it come to players or managing the team.
And old system Sven have used with al hes teams.
But this time with little movements and tired players
afther a long premiership seasoon.Notting happend,
notting, just boring and hoping for some magic from
becham on a free kick or so
I personally think the premiership and how the top clubs are beeing managing kill the England national team.In the future only clubs like Southamton and alike will have young English players who can develope the game.Because the top clubs canot wait,
and go for the big stars in europa al the time.
You chould have a quota for how many foreigners you could have in a team !! (2-3 ?)
Best England manager that is a good question.
My choice would be:J Cruyff
You need someone to think new,and who is strong
enough to tell everybody to f....off
Hiddink and Beenhakker is also some who always get results with their teams
