World Cup Commentators

In Oz we have the pleasure of listening to Martin Tyler who IMHO is the best by far...........l cannot stand Gary Bloom ....we have an English ex-pat who lives in Oz, Simon Hill who calls the Oz games....don't mind him.

Couple others aren't too bad (from UK) haven't caught their names as yet....think one of them has a surname of Hall

Who do you like/dislike ?

......and is old John Motson still around ?

Send a message via MSN to dawsey
He is long retired but David Coleman was the best football commentator for me. Barry Davies wasn't bad,got a bit excited at times

John Motson OK in small doses, but very biased as IJ mentioned.
Martin Tyler is a good commentator, but he is on ITV and those bl**dy commercials drive me

The king of commentators [rugby union] was Bill McClaren, the most unbiased man ever, and only spoke when he needed to. Sorely missed on TV

Now Bill was a goodun Dawsey!!!.....always enjoyed his calls too whe we got them here and in Oz..

I've noticed that since all of the sports coverage has gone to pay TV the commentators have all become so biased........must be pandering to the lowest case denominator methinks!!!

Funny but I notice the Kiwi commenators here and yell at them/the TV about bias....hmmm not normal I know........but my mates always say the Oz commentators are biased..........so i guess it's who is looking too that counts.......55555

Cool

Why do all the commentators have to raise their voice and talk really quickly when the ball goes anywhere near the goal ?? I now listen to the radio commentary whilst watching TV with the sound down.

Another thing that riles me, is commentators opinions. Just get on with telling us what acctually happening you jerks !! We don't care what you think !!

I’ve watched most of the games in this WC on Thai TV. And I must say, I’ve found it kinda refreshing not having to listen to (erm… understanding) the commentators. Still got the roar of the crowds, which is an essential part, but no lame opinions.

Of course, especially if the commentators are present in the stadium, they can pick up on some detail that I wasn’t aware of, but on some level I think I’ve enjoyed the “purity” of the game (for lack of a better word) more.
