Holland-Argentina

Althought boring with no goals I am impressed with Holland, I actually thought Argentina would make 2 goals or so and beat them easily.

Both teams are already through so maybe they didnt bother that much, but still good of Holland. Brazil is maybe ranked as no 1 with bookmakers and Argentina close to them but after todays game I think Holland have a good chance.

Sweden may or may not beat Germany but after that I dont think we will advance any further, to be honest.

I had not seen that game, or the result, but I do agree that Holland have looked pretty good so far.

Argentina are for sure possible winners, probably the most unpopular team in the tournament for us English, Maradonna will never be forgiven!

I agree with Nicke, the game was pretty boring and what is counting are the goals, for myself I think that Holland will come pretty far. And Nicke I hope you get ORANGE T-shirts for the girls to wear when Holland is coming to the
final game.

Hand Of God

The Hand of God goal (Spanish: Mano de Dios) was scored by Diego Maradona in the quarter-final match of the 1986 FIFA World Cup between England and Argentina, played on 22 June 1986 in Mexico City's Estadio Azteca. Maradona illegally used his left hand to score the goal, but the referee thought he had used his head and allowed the goal. The Argentines won 2-1, and the legacy of this event perhaps best symbolizes the rivalry between the two football teams

Mostly from Wikipedia.

If you google 'hand of god' the first two returns are about this, not religion, that's how deep the feelings run. I will google 'dirty fat cheat' and see what comes up....

he scored the winning goal against England to help Argentina on the way to winning the World Cup and it is called the hands of God goal.

Maradonna was running towards the goal with a defender on him towards the ball which took a big bounce and ended up around his chest. Nowadays with better video quality you can see that he is unable to hit the ball with his chest or head so at the last instant before the ball went past him he hit it with his hand and the ball went in the English goal and none of the referees saw the play so the goal counted.

The man was an absolute genius with a football.

I agree again , great video and Maradonna was a superb player.

Not really sold on Holland.......apart from Robben and maybe Van Persie.....l reckon the are a pretty average bunch.

Van Nistleroy is only as good as the players feeding him.

Super sport 7 on cable were showing the Serbia-Ivory Coast game - what a game that was and well done Ivory Coast on the deserved win and by far more energy and passion than the dull Holland-Argentina game. From the snippets of that game I watched both seemed content to go into last 16 without taking too much risk, but with 50-50 possesion Holland held Argentina at bay.

Nicke - Sweden defense better than Germany - so that game could well end up in penalties.

Yes and this time they play the most offensive football in wc with a lot of speed and movements .
And they have this characteristic that they always
strike back

A Germany - Ivory coast final would have really produced some goals/attacking play.if there is a god however, Brazil will not win this year and England will not lose on penalties to either the argies or the germans!

The Dutch team has not been the same as the one that played the last 10 years. The don't play as good and they don't have the big players in it anymore. But this new team has a really good collective. In the last 2 years they have lost just one match. And that was a pratcise match against italy with a few players that only played ones. So although it doesn't look spectaculair they are almost unbeatable. I just hope it will stay like this untill after the finals

Id rather have a team than can win that plays with a lot of flair and that is what Holland has.... Not a löot of flair... Although Robben in the game against serbia was fantastic... But last night played ok.... Didnt really create much but were tight at the back and stoped a free scoring Argentina team from scoring.... I think that they can go all the way..

the dutch team are very good defensively but with robben not in the side they aint much going foward.argentina are strong in all departments except they are not going to give anyone a problem in the air, unlike sweden or england.

By far the best teams have been Argentina and Spain, Argentina does not suprise me as I knew they would do really well, But Spain are the real dark horses, They are playing some really good football and maybe this will be there time to get rid of the under-achieving tag.....
