Australia advances

Australia just advanced to the next round with a draw 2:2 against Croatia.
i think it's a surprise, cos nobody had the Soccaroos on their minds.

well done Australia!

To be honest after they beat Japan i never had any doubt that they would go through....... I thought Croatia would be the weak link in that group..... Well done to Australia and look forward to seeing them get further

Never been so happy with a draw

Got up early and watched the 1st half, raced to work during half time to catch the 2nd half...pumped for the rest of the day!!!

Completely opposite, I thought Japan and Oz would be eliminated

Croatia played a great opening match against Brazil and were unlucky to lose a game they should have won. I expected them to finish 2nd in their group.

Well done the Aussies

BTW. Bye bye to the USA, a decent showing from a country not renowned for football.

Well what roller coaster ride that was.

Viduka dragged down first half....no penalty

Australian Keeper Zeljko Kalac, with Coation background, and gambling allegations, let's in a howler....and has an all round terrible game....for all Guus Hiddink's good moves, this was a fkn ordinary selection...Schwarzer has done nothing wrong to lose his place.

Croatian Defender handles the ball in the second half.....no penalty.

Australia's second goal....off side.

Graham Poll.....terrible game.

So Australia are through to the Second Round....a truly wonderful achievement......Italy next round will be massive in Australia with a big Italian community living throughout Oz.....bring it on coz we got nothing to lose.

I don't think FIFA take into account the quality of the opposition.

I'm guessing the the USA play the Caribbean countries and very low ranked countries to tot up wins and gain their ranking.

Same same Mexico

I dont think Croatia are the team they were a little while ago....Didnt they finish 4th or something in the 1998 world cup? But realisticaly Japan and Australia have come a long way in the past few years.... I thought that would go for them......

You would think South Korea would be ranked higher then...... especially after last world cup....But considering they are quite far down the list

I think the Croats are a very good team, They just have been very unlucky infront of goal, All they need is a lethal striker up front and they would give most sides a good game...

Btw.. Your nearly right, They came 3rd in the 98 world cup

Who gives a fcuk about rankings..........they have been proven to be a load of sh1te anyway.....If USA is the 5th best team in the world then Wales should be No: 6....they don't hep u win football games.

maybe I'm biased but I thought Aus deserved to win.........they seemd to play a lot better than Croatia particularly in the second half.......it was comforting to know we only had to get a draw..... but those last 10 mins seemd to go on forever.......

Tough match to ref.....very physical and the most holding/grabbing/pushing of oppostion players that I have seen so far in the WC..........the yellow cards........and two reds were handed out pretty liberally.......it's odd when you see a player making 5 dangerous takles in a match and stay on and then you see Emerton do pretty much nothing and gets two yellow.......followed by a red......in two minutes.......crazy + puzzling game sometimes

and then there was the Croat player who got two yellows and stayed on?????...........then got a third yellow for grabbing/arguing with the red after full time.......sometimes it's pure comedy out there...........

Yes that was a funny one,Poll did give him 3 yellow cards
And did he blow game over or a free kick

They have refs on the sideline to,and senors for watching the game, and nobody said anything when he just continued playing afther two yellow cards

Croatsia have always been a unsporty team with a lot of dirty triks
but they have some great footballers down at Balkan, always had.

And the wc is probably over for Graham Poll

Yea it was chaotic last minutes,i feel sorry for him
because this Croats was over him al the time, and try to affect his decisions in a unsporty way and he lost it a littlebit, and he did look very stressed at that time.
Normally i think he is ok

big wrap to the coach, has done wonders in short time.
have noticed how players seem to play in any position and seems to be not to many gaps.
feel a little sorry for keeper,he had a shocker but dont think there is any truth to him throwing game for crotia, thats bullshit he has given great service to australian soccer, just had a bad game.

regardless of what happens next this is a great result for Australia. Who can predict what happens next. Football is a funny game and Australia does have match winners. Hopefully they can continue to play entertaining football and play as they never have before. One way or the other these results will be very positive for football in Australia.
