What a way to lose it.
A clumsy challenge by Lucas Neill, who has had an outstanding tournament, but there was no contact made initially....then the Italian just went and fell on him......l say "No" penalty.....am l biased guys?

Hard luck Australia, that was harsh. They should have thrown everything at Italy in the last 20.

bad call imho......italian looking for the penalty, went over the player, who had no intention and made most of the player in the way, dramatically dived.
sore way to lose.
but in all fairness the italians were taking the rough challenges well for a change, not so much BS diving,if the ozzy's keep on going the way they are could be a prospect for the future.
thought the ozzy's were gonna snatch it,going in to extra time as well i think they would of come out on top, italians were looking tired, down to 10 men....but as we all know...its a funny old game.

With 5 minutes remaining, I thought it would've been TYPICIAL ITALY to score a "stupid goal", as they have done on so many occasions. And sure enough...
Though luck for the Aussies. Put up a great game and IMO deserved better.

The Aussies may be out but IMHO they can hold there heads up high.... They did well to qualify from that group and gave Italy a run for there money... Congratulations.... And if they keep building on that team... Who knows

A good performance by the Aussies. Bad decision to give the penalty but well taken. The aussies, although losing came out of the game with more credit than the Italians who wont be feared by their next opponents.
Australia now have to find a new coach to replace Hiddink who has again performed miracles with an unfancied side [see S. Korea 2002]
If they don't get the right man, they could go backwards
Sven is available

It was an really soft penalty IMO, In most cases it would not be given and if I was the ref I would not have given it to be honest, But the Italian player was very clever in the way he left his leg trailing, In all fairness though the Italian sending off was also extremely harsh IMO, And Austrailia to me never looked like winning it, They just didnt do enough for me, I think both decisions probably evened themselves out in the end... Austrailia can be very proad of themselves, They did themselves proad in there first World Cup and have nothing to be ashamed of....
Plus this means my bet is still hanging on in there, England v Italy final (18-1)... Both in the last eight, Who knows?

Ally i cant believe it....... We agree on a football matter 5555555 I agree with what you said....I would have booked the italian player for diving myself... Never have given a penalty for that

The penalty looks soft, but still we played againest 10 men for the major part of the game and couldnt score.
with luck we will have learnt heaps at the world cup,and this result should strenghen soccer in oz
Look we have done very well and all aussie's should be very proud of our boys.

good post Ally.......but hope your last sentence prediction doesn't hold out........55555........not that I want you to lose the cash....just that England and Italy both don't deserve it..........
Would have been a different result for sure if the ref had red carded the Italian............like he should have!!!

The penalty was an absolute disgrace. The ref is probably driving a Ferrari now.

Action shot of the penalty incident.....pretty conclusive evidence that Grosso was acting.
