I don’t think that Arsenal have had a tortured history. They are the second most succesful club in the premiership after Man Utd since it began in 1992.As far as I know they won the league in 1997/98, 2001/2002 and 2003/2004
If you want a team with a tortured history you should follow Newcastle, runners up twice in the league and fa cup they completely falling apart as a club!!

Can't speak for Arsenal, but the atmospere at premiership games is great. Chelsea have a maximum gate of around 45,000 and I expect the new Emirates Stadium where Arsenal will now play will hold more. Expect good things if you support them Paul.
The season begins in two weeks time and runs until end Apr/Early May.
Heres the fixture list

Great choice M26 and its great to be a Gooner .....
Still the Arsenal website good place to check fixtures - news etc ...
http://www.arsenal.com/index.asp
Pre-season friendly's already underway - but season proper starts 08/19/06 against Aston Villa and ends 05/13/07 against Portsmouth.
My brother was at the Bergkamp testimonial opening game at the new Emerites stadium and said was great atmoshere although hard to beat Highbury. US style tailgating and car park BBQ's dont really happen so much in UK - more likely go on public transport if wand to down a few at a pub before the game and after.

This website should help you with Arsenal tickets Paul.
http://www.soldouteventtickets.com/l...gue/arsenal-cl
To be honest, you really need a firm date for visiting the UK before buying as they aren't cheap
You should be able to get tickets from any ticketing agency online. I suggest Google/Premiership tickets will get a result.
When are you planning a visit?

marc26 if you want to get "into" Arsenal, I'd pick up a copy of Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/157...709746?ie=UTF8
About being a hardcore Arsenal fan, and an excellent read as well.

Well give Nov,Dec Jan and Feb a miss Id go in Sept or Oct myself, but as you know British weather is really quirky,so you never know how its gonna be. If its sunny in Dec it can be lovely.
The new stadium is easily reached by underground http://www.oxfordtube.com/assets/lon...ground_map.jpg
Look for the Piccadilly(Dk Blue)Victoria (Light Blue) lines.
Look for Arsenal,Finsbury Park,Highbury and Islington,all about a 10min walk.

a new gooner is born.
just remember, a team is for life not just for christmas
I and many of my mates/family are Arsenal supporters and I supported them since I was 11 years old. Would love to see the new Emirates stadium - looks awesome.
