The Premiership so far.......

I thought I'd start a thread where we can discuss the merits and performance of "your" team in the Premiership.
So far a couple of teams have surprised me, Portmouth and Everton.
Two have disappointed and that is Tottenham and Liverpool (sorry Ally)

Portsmouth must be credited with some great results under Harry Redknapp and although I'd be surpised to see them in this position at the end of the season, they have done very well. For me,it shows what Harry can do given a bit of money to spend.

Everton too are doing well with a pretty unchanged side from last season. Andy Johnson is a good buy and playing well.

Up top,Chelsea are much where I expected, and given the cash at their disposal it would be strange if they weren't. Shevchenko will be an asset once he has scored a few more. You can see he has class, and he is a trier.
Drogba, now he has cut out the diving ,has grown into the player he was bought for. Strong, pretty skillful and a better allround game than last year.

Man U have done really well. I expected them to struggle a bit with Horseface (not you Ally ) gone, but Saha is scoring and the defence is tight.

As for the disappointments, Spurs, I expected so much more from them. I rate the manager, but his forwards are letting Spurs down. Just how many chances do they need before they score? A big letdown for me.

Now Liverpool 5555. They are a shadow of the side that ended last season, the defence is shot, and they are finding it hard to score. Bellamy is hopeless, and like Gerrard playing out of position. What is that manager of theirs thinking!! Benitez for me is on borrowed time. Crouch?? their best forward so far,and Kuyt looks good but its not the Liverpool that everyone feared in the past.

One last team to mention, Arsenal, with the best manager in the league are not quite there, but playing attractive football and I look out for them after Chelsea for their score. I fancy a top 4 finish for them, but no title this season. That is almost a two horse race this early for me.

Comments?? Ally?? 5555

Can't believe you left Bolton out there Chiefy, they have impressed the hell out of me this time. I know they copped a flogging from United but they are normally very hard to beat. If England wanted an English manager, Sam Allardyce should have been it.

The current bottom three will go down: Charlton (shame) Watford and Sheff U. Newcastle will be first to sack their manager (closely followed by West Ham).

I think United are at least one player away from giving Chelsea a real argument (come in Owen Hargreaves) but unless Arsenal put a decent run together, United and Chelsea will be a speck on the horizon by New Year.

I disagree about Saha as well, Alex Ferguson raves on about what a good player he is but I just can't see it, it actually pains me to see him wearing the number 9 shirt. I reckon that more chances go begging at the dancing, cultured feet of Louis Saha than ever came to grief off Andy Cole's shins. If Saha is the answer then I'm afraid I don't understand the question.

Why oh why did United pass up the chance to sign Michael Owen?

My top 6:

Chelsea
Man U
Arsenal
Everton
Bolton
Liverpool

I can't argue with you about Saha, but the guy is scoring, and thats what counts in the end. I don't rate him at all,and I expect to see another forward arrive(Spanish maybe 555) in Jan.

You missed out Stuart Pearce in the sacking list Steve He won't stay long if the results don't come, and Southgate isn't a surefire bet either.

Bolton, not a surprise to me,but I hate the way they play. Bully boy, direct approach which is typical old England strengths. I don't think they will be top 6 at the end of season, for me Everton have more chance. Not even sure if Liverpool can get in the top 6 either. They seem to have lost the plot,in spite of yesterdays win. Why is Benitez playing Gerrard out on the wing??

Because, as a Spaniard, he would really like to see the guy travel up the M62 and bolster Man Utd's midfield....

I actually think City would be daft to get rid of Pearce. If he can carry on keeping them in the division they should be grateful.

As a United fan, I love to see City in turmoil. My dream scenario is to see them floundering in the lower reaches of the Championsip in a relegation dogfight with Liverpool-Arsenal (who have had to combine playing resources due to a dodgy deal done in Toxteth with a bloke called Hamed which has left them both ground sharing with Huddersfield) and Dirty Leeds.

5555 Gerrard would play for Everton before he moved to United. He would get lynched if he ever showed his face in Liverpool again. Gerrard and Utd are not used in the same sentence Steve.

Chelsea just have the best players with dobble coverage on every position
and will benefit from that in the lenght
Manchester U plays the best footbal at the moment i think, fast pasing and
a lot of movements
But they need to get a classy front man if they gone chalenge Chelski
Arsenal never liked them,al this talk about their great manager
Everton is at the moment the best team in Liverpool and are a big suprise
this year
Bolton must be one of the most difficult teams to meet, plays simple
and have some experience in the team.Big Sam has always been a expert in handling in good players cheap.

Liverpool is just a big disappointment, dont know wats wrong in that club
but the way they use Gerrard is bull.
They chould have been in top tree

And my MC is struggling, just a big lack of quality players

I know, but we can dream can't we? That said, Rooney was 'Everton forever', so never say never eh?

I think that's the big problem for City and a lot of the mid-table clubs, they can't attract top quality players.

That's why I admire Bolton and Everton so much, I can see them both finishing top 6 without any superstars.

Yes but it worked, and Frank Stapleton now does hospitality at United. All that 'he could never show his face in Liverpool' stuff may be true, but how often do Liverpool players go into the City anyway? They all live in Cheshire, right next door to the United players...

I feel for Stuart Pearce the way City are performing. I know he is the manager and takes the can,but I just like the guys enthusiasm and humour.
Like you say, they need a cash injection.

I think City just have to be realistic, if he keeps them up this season it's job well done.

You are a bad man ehh
Maybee i am wrong but i was believe it only was the tourists that loved United

But Bolton always get some very experienced players into the team like Campo, Speed, Diouf, Davies Anelka.

You see some of the same with Poursmouth

HEHE,But i must admit that i did have this big Poster of Denis Law over my
bed when i was young.

But City is one of the teams that beeing in Premiership not is the only
succses factor for the club.
Its one of the few clubs that have their ground filled up also in first div.

Just read that their Forman John Wardle sayd that their earnings was on
£ 61.8 million and their expenses was £57.3 last year.
But i an glad that they dont have an US uncle and still have their pride

I still see Chelsea winning......United have been surprisingly good so far, and could pose a threat if they can have a good run with injuries.....l hope they can mount a serious challenge come April 07.

Liverpool down but not yet out......still time to come back.....but cannot afford anymore serious form slumps.

Aresnal could be the ones to watch to mount a challenge to the top two....guess that's pretty obvious.

Nobody has mentioned the shambles that is Newcastle FC....l would hate to support them, they are forever disappointing their fans.

I think the major problem with LIverpool is the fact that you cant play Alonso, Sissoko and GErrard in the same midfeild (as I said on the board alot!). Well that and the fact that for some reason Belleamy just doesn't seem to work + and the usuale realiable back 5 have inherited the second season shocking form that seems to hit nearly every new defensive player that comes to the club.

The more I look back at the European cup winning season, the more I think LIverpool just fluked it the whole way through. IT was Gerrards Cup, with him single handly beating alot of the sides on the way through. The squad was so thread bare for talent that year, that Benetiz had to play pretty much the same 13 players throughout. If you compare this to the last 2 seasons, there is no team spirt or settled game-plan and it shows!

I honestly don't know how Utd are doing so well in the league. I have seen them play 3 or 4 times this season and on no occasion have they impressed me, yet they won on the games. Ok, LIverpool gave them the 3 points by not turning up, but the other games they won by default. The return of Scholes and Solskajar (However you spell it!) is like adding 2 big new signings to the squad. But wherever I look at the squad I see big weakness'es.

Chelsea are where Chelsea should be with the amount of money they can spend. Drogba is actually looking like a £20 million player while last season he was more of a 20p player. Big Shev is having some problems adapting to the English game, but his skill still shines through. But will he be given time to adapt? Ballack, I don't think is playing that well, but the squad is soo strong it doesn't matter. ANd I hate LAmpard, so I just ignore him as I'll be biased.

Ol' Harry at Portsmouth is showing what a good manager he is as now like Dawsey says, he has the money to spend, but I can see them finishing the season in the top 4. The same with bolton, Big Sam has them playing a very effective game, but when the new year comes, I can see them droping a few places and finishing between 5th and 8th due to suspension and the added games due to cup runs etc. But this bollocks about they should not be in the Prem due to the style of football they play is crap. If every team played the same style, then all team and leagues would be clones. It gives the big boys something to think about when they meet just like the old Wimbledon side.

Arsenal are still 3 players short, or 3 years too soon, to mount a Title challenge. But will finish in the top 4.

As for the sack race, I think Roeder will go first followed by Pardew, unless the Hammmers take over goes quicker than normal. I think Pearce is doing a good job at city, but is being hampered by injuries and the major lack of funds. The youngsters he is bringing through are generally very good, but his signing stink of a lack of cash and a lack of drawing power! He knew he needed a top quality forward to score goals, but all he could attract was Sameras.

Well thats my 2bob worth. I'll let you all flame me now!
