Proper tools for any job, are essential.

Got your ass kicked by 5 guys???

You mentioned in another post, about the black ladies....Was this ass kicking administered by 5 black dudes? (racists)

The clubs definatly make a big difference, i was always driving 30-40 yards past my uncle every time, then he bought a new driver, Mizuno 360 with senior shaft, all of a sudden he is as long as me, so i have a shot of this and then i am adding another 20-30 yards onto my drive, so without a doubt they are helping improve many peoples game.

I have a friend who says: "it is the Indian, not the bow and arrow", meaning it is the player, not the clubs that count.
I agree partially, but you also need the propper clubs. I bought my first clubs in a shop, and then made the same mistake a few years later. I then tested different clubs during demo days on the driving range. That is how I found my TM RAC CGB (after testing 5-6 other clubs). Well, those made a big difference and I am playing better. So the best advice is not to buy clubs in a shop if you didn't test them before on the driving range. It will make a difference.

I wanted to ask about this.. I have a mate.. Hes got his dirty finger in a few dirty little pies.. One of his angles is ebaying goods out of China.. Drop shipped by his chinese agent, he just makes the sales processes payments etc..

One of the things he has access to is complete golf sets, brand names, in a golf bag, top end, this years models, 100 pounds only (sound like Arthur Dayley).. Problem is the DHL international shipping adds a few 100 more.. I presume they are chinese copys but I also presume he sells them as legit (as I cant imagine ebay allow it otherwise)

I was under the impression that high end, this years stuff, branded calloway ping or whatever cost a LOT.. I was dead curious to have a look and see if they were well made and just out the back of the factory (legit goods but not sold through proper channels) or cheap copys.. He keeps promising to send me a free sample set but as yet I havnt got one.. Even considered buying a set and sending to my brother in law who golfs as a gift to see what he thought.

A few of my mates (low handicappers) have bought these copy types & to be honest you wouldn't tell the difference to look at. Also they have no problems with their performance. It might be because there good anyway but I wouldn't have thought so. I think my next set will be a copy set. After all if I don't get on with them I could still flog them for more than £100 to an unsuspecting beginner !!

I was curious what a 'top end' but not custom fitted complete set would cost at retail back home.. I think my Dad had a set custom fitted for his brother once as a special present (uncle and cousin are both very keen) and I recall that was a real price tag dont know details but think it was enough to cringe.

I strongly suspect they are out the back of the fabrication anyway..

the only thing that i was wondering is i was hitting them straight too, not so much distance
i think it was a combination of the clubs and a wide open course, cuz i suck!!!

perhaps you were slowing down on yer swing M26 after a few big party nights.......and this can have a good effect on yer game........

I had rotten tooth ache recently and took some codeine tablets before playing.........played beautifully and slowed everything down....

my regular 4 ball partners were all ribing me all day saying that I must have had lessons etc........next week i was as f@cked as ever..........55555

Good clubs.....particularly driver + putter can make a huge difference to anyone who can play off 20 or under ..........ie anyone who can swing a bat

i did concentrate on hitting it straight while giving up some distance but i still think it was a combination of good clubs(that cobra 5 wood was my baby!) and an easy course
anyways, it got me real excited about gettign back out there. i really want to get into the game since i only work til 1pm so would be ideal for me

Heh wait a minute you were going to practise twice a week last time before you came over but never found the time, stop talking and get it organised for a set time each week.

Go to your local course and get a few lessons on basic set up and swing, the pro will give you certain things to work out on the range, you will improve 10 times faster than trying to figure it yourself on the course, also will last you a lifetime when your swings goes wrong in the future. I know the range is boring but there are many ways to add enjoyment, competing with yourself and watching your own improvment, trying to get better on the course is a no no, the course should be used to enjoy the hard work you have put in.

I found aiming for the guy on the tractor livened things up a bit.

Our courses often have Black Bears taking up residence (don't aim for them)

Clubs make a difference to some extent. E.G. I have a hand me down Big Bertha as my driver and I recently tried my dad's TaylorMade R7 460 and I am consistently hitting the ball straighter and farther on the R7.

Although I am hitting with the same distances and consistency with his Irons, he goes with a carbon shaft vs (my steel shaft) which is more forgiving and overall feels much better to hit (altho I still hit like crap).

Will better (more expensive) clubs make you a better player? Possibly. Will clubs matched to your swing speed an playing style make you a better player? Yes.

Following Dodgers advice above .............and then being confident in your game and selecting the right club for the shot is what will make you a better golfer

i think confidence does make a big difference
i went out on the course with 3 very good players and was dreading it
as soon as i hit my 1st tee shot well and then my 1st approach shot i relaxed
also, cant say enough about my playing partners offering praise and small instructions
again, all it did was get me psyched to play again
