Favourite TV Sport
so what's your favourite sport to watch on TV...........
I bet everyone is groaning now and going "oh my god....not another thread where Nels goes on about Rugby and the All Blacks...bla blah blah".....
But no..........my favourite sport to watch on TV is actually the weekly wrap ups of the ASP pro surfing events from around the world.....I just can't get enough of this.....and surfing in general on TV............
If you go to the contests often due to the smaler waves in front you can't really get a good view of what is happenning out the back on the bigger waves....but on TV you are right in there with the surfer the you get pan backs for the looser bigger manoevres.........
Big wave surfing is also fantastic....shot from overhead choppers with guys being towed onto those 10 story mountains which take them a minute or so to get all the way down the face of the wave sometimes......and then the wipe outs are just awesome........biggest wave I ever rode was about 12' which is huge and scary.....these guys are riding 3-4 times that height.......
oh..and yes....I do like Rugby on TV as well...........55555......especially test matches
hate cricket unless one team is about to win
football to me is boring now....not enough goals scored and too much money in the game....no allegiances anymore......
I'll also happily spend an afternoon watching golf..after just having come in off the course.........
I have actually played all of the games I mention above at some level too........so I guess that influences what you like to watch on the box.........you kind of have a inside knowledge of what you are watching.........and relate to it more intimately

Especially when you see a bunker shot in the hole after the 4th playoff hole to win.

Funny you should say that Steve.........that is what made me write the thread..........
yesterday I was torn between the ASP surfing event in Brazil.....my oh my those bikinis ........and the Australian PGA
Thanks God the surfing was over just as they were walking up the 18th hole in regulation play.......
so then I watched the grind/excitement of the playoff holes..............what a great way to win a tournament!!!!
and more on my point above...... I have played that course and been in that bunker.........it is one difficult shot to stop on the green let alone hole it out for a championship win........congrats to O'Hearn

I heard the bunker wasn't that deep until you got in there.....it's a wonder you got out by the time the Tournament started.....555555
My favourite TV watching sport is watching cricket from England, US Masters Golf and British Open Golf, World Series Baseball, World Cup Football.
Love watching horse racing, especially if l am ahead on the punt.
Used to love the FA Cup Final.....but since it's moved from the old Wembley does not seem the same.
Don't like watching tennis much......would be better if no faults on service were allowed.
Don't like watching tennis......surfing is ok, especially if a great white is near by.....makes em surf that little bit better.

N1 - good idea for a thread -
Spectator value has to be womens Brazilian beach vollyball - makes me want to get over to South America.
I guess as far as getting into a sport though has to be the beutiful game, but living here so long I can't really get too excited about the Premiership anymore as its become too commercial but high quality exciting football in the Champions League great to watch. I do miss the atmosphere of live football.

My little brother is big into his surfing so like Nels I gets to see a lot of surfing (via DVD's he buys in Bali) which I think makes a great spectacle.. Hes also got quite a collection of Snowboard and Mountain bike action stuff.. Tho to me surfing / Snowboard seems to be better suited to the soul surfing than the competition / sport aspect.. But I guess thats a small distinction ?? Sport / activity / passion / passtime etc..
For me I am always hooked on fight sports.. Be it Boxing, Muay Thai, K1, UFC, or 2 fat lasses outside the chipper..
One unusual sport I really like to watch if its presented properly is Sumo.. I remember Ch4 in the UK started and had low money and tried to show sports from around the world.. They had a season of Sumo shown and the pomp and ceremony surrounding these short intense blasts is actually high drama.. Sumo HAS to be shown in full tho as the psyche out and eye contact is part of the bout.. Just seeing the 'bout' or highlights is not in any way the same as seeing the build up, the tension, the attitudes and body language that prefaces the bout... Dont really see any coverage now.
In motorsport I am usually keen on the rallying, F1 these days seems hard to get passionate about as its become too technical.
As I used to parasail, hang glide, skydive, etc if these get any coverage I like to see it.. Same goes with sail planes / gliders and microlight stuff.. Coverage is usually poorly put together tho..
Watching the harsh sailing races like the Whitbread's and stuff is intense.. Also with the use of satellite tracking and computer images to show each yachts precise location in relation to each other and destination points is a new development that makes the sport much more watchable.. Again very little coverage for this and would really love to see more, I think it televises well..
Honestly cant stand football (and yet theres channel after channel full time for it !!).. Cricket is like watching paint dry.. Think the sport packages could do well to take a few more chances or diversify a bit (but that may just be UBC !!)..

Mav........I got out of the bunker in one shot.....but 2 hops on the green then went plop into the water.......was 3 shots at that stage......add one drop....one chip.......and two putts to that.........triple bogey....
something similar to O'Hearn........

LiL..........they are showing Ultimate Fighting on TV here now......and I just don't get it..........they are punching and kicking the shi'ites out of each other but it doesn't seem to have an effect on them?????
You'll see one guy pulverise another with twenty punches to the face all in 10 seconds only for the other guy to get up shake his head and dance around the ring...........either they are too tired to actually hurt each other or they are pulling their punches.......which looks pretty unlikely as you can hear them and the guys don't look like they are fakin' it????

With UFC.. I think theres less absolute power is some of the punches due to the fact that they need to be on the defensive against kick based attacks or take downs so have a slightly different stance than a out and out boxer.. Consider how they tend to stand arms up and out ready to grapple, legs closer set than a boxer to reduce the risk of a leg grab based takedown.. Also once grounded you nearly always see the lower fighter attempting to hold the higher fighter close down to him to reduce punching power from the ground and pound stage..
UFC has really evolved.. The introduction of structured rounds, the formatted fight length and judging etc.. Has now created a more televisable (marketable) fight sport.. The groundwork being what seperates it from K1 but personally I like K1 / Pride etc a bit more..

Moto GP would be my first pick.
Like Bono, I like to watch the World Championship Snooker too.
One day cricket matches when the Aussies are playing.
I will admit to recording & watching WWE Raw & Smackdown every week & every now & then subscribing to pay per views!

For me it would be football, F1 racing and NHL Ice hockey games.
Too bad we cannot see those in Holland... Ever since I stayed in Montreal for about 8 months, I love watching the Montreal Canadiens.

Do not like to watch cricket or rugby unless England are in a final and as that is not often do not see much of that, F1 is boring as the car seems to win the race before they start, actually most motorsports I only watch for the crashes which is a bit sick but honest. Like most football, golf, extreme sports, all types of fighting from boxing to muay thai to martial arts etc, enjoy the athletics.
In fact now i have started thinking about (should have done that before I started typing) it would have been simpler to say like all sport only exception Cricket, Rugby and F1.

The Thai team aren't bad either. Don't know if they're any good at beach volleyball though.

Using Google ...
Beach Volleyball started in 1895 ... still DB does it really matter if Thailand are any good ?? Eye candy right, but being dilegent the best Thai player's are ranked 70 - Kamoltip Kulna (555555 sounds bit hot doesnt she - 30 from Chaing Rai) and Jarunee Sannok (25, Korat). The pair ranked at 75 (both 22) look hotter.

This is a great thread
NFL: nothing better than an NFL sunday. wake up, go get the papers and breakfast, put my bets in and watch football, read the papers and watch games all game for about 12 hours
NBA: the one thing about basketball, is there is always one player i like to watch on each team so i canw atch any game
MLB:this is a game you dont have to watch every play, so turn it on and go abotu your business with it in the background. i pretty much watch all 162 games of the Red Sox. and the playoffs are fantastic
im enjoying watching the Premiersship. i get a kick out of the commentators. much different than in the states
