FA Cup 2007
A few good results today for the unfancied sides.
Notts Forest 2 - Charlton 0 not really a surprise
Sheffield Utd 0 - Swansea 3 great result for Swansea.
Birmingham 2 Newcastle 2
And the big boys
Liverpool 1 Arsenal 3 Throughly deserved win. Liverpool were awful. I have to wonder about Benitez and his team selection. Bellamy not even put on as sub, or Fowler (is he injured?) in place of a totally ineffective Crouch. Dudek at fault for two of the three Arsenal goals (too slow to react)
Chelsea 6 Macclesfield 1 Poor Macclesfield had no chance once the goalkeeper was dismissed. Lucky to keep it down to 6.
So the Cup holders are out

Mmmm, Well they were poor in the sence that they couldnt break down Arsenal and they conceded three goals on the break, But I think that was more down to Arsenal playing well sitting back to be honest... Liverpool were all over them for most of the second half and looked like they were going to score the equalizer, And then some sloppy defending from Carragher cost Liverpool, Overall I dont think they were as bad as you guys are saying IMO..
I would have liked to see Crouch go off though for Bellemy, Sometimes Benitez does make strange decisions regarding substitutes but then some of them work out and some of them dont, Anyway he is the man in charge and as a supporter I respect his decisions..

Spoken like a true supporter Ally I think maybe you were watching through tinted glasses though. Apart from a 20min spell in the 2nd half, Liverpool were absolutely no threat to Arsenal at all.
Wenger showed himself far more tactically astute than Benitez, and you are correct in saying Arsenal played well by hitting on the break.
One thing puzzles me, it was a hard game for both sides, so why did they both rest their No# 1 keeper?

I dont think so, If we get played off the park by any team, I would be the first to admit it, But Liverpool had most of the ball in that match, They just couldnt break Arsenal down with Gilberto and Flamini sitting in front of the back four...
Honestly other than the goals that Arsenal scored, Can you remember Dudek having to make any saves? Two goals scored from long range shots outside the box, And one total ****-up by Carragher against Henry, Thats it?
If Liverpool scored first, It would have been a different game but they didnt and played right into Arsenal's hands, About the keepers? Well they might have had a pre-arrangment with the keepers assuring them they they would get some first team football in the cups, Didnt make a difference really though, Riena would not have had much chance for the first two but maybe for the Henry one though, As Dudek seemed to take an age to get down...

OK Im not one for the stats, but Dudek picked the ball out of the net 3 times, but that was about it. Almueria (sp?) had nothing to get dirty for either.
1st goal Dudek had no chance, it was a well taken shot.
2nd Goal Rosistky (sp?) was surrounded by 5 inept defenders, then another two (I counted them all) and went past them all. Dudek took an age to make his save, and still missed it.
Goal 3 Awful mistake by Carragher kept the ball in for Henry. He still had it to do, turned Finnan like he wasn't there, and made it look easy. Again Dudek had plenty of time to make the save, but took an age. A better keeper would have saved that one.
Again, not one for stats, but you can have 70% of the ball and still lose, like today??, but its what you do with it when you have it. Liverpool had no idea how to break down Arsenal with all the ball they had, thats why I say L'pool were so poor. No idea, no invention, nothing. Thats why I give so much credit to Wenger, and Benitez was clueless and couldn't or wouldn't try to change things by using his subs better.
Anyway, its over, and its only a game after all.
Funny how two people can see the same game and view it differently

Utd have gone through 2-1 with an injury time goal from Solskar. The goalie reminded me of Bruce Grobblear
The super swede Henrik Larsson also scored on his debut.

Good day for United, but they were almost undone by their wasted chances again.

Villa defended well, and can consider themselves unfortunate not to get a replay. Having said that, Utd were on top through the whole game.
Larsson is a great addition for Utd, and offers a lot even at 35yrs old. A very clever player. Looked like he formed a good understanding with Rooney.

United were worth their win, they were all over Villa. I just worry that a better team would punish them for those missed chances.
I'm not sure about Larssen, he's only available for ten weeks, and I think that Rooney needs someone to play off rather than to lead the line. Rooney is a 12 goals a season guy..
If United can find a top drawer striker they are good enough to start thinking about Europe again. But the way they are, no way.

I dont care about football but I did see Larsson scored a goal, and I know he is very well paid for the short rental time. Or I may be wrong, there was also a Swedish goalkepper (3rd goalie) that was rented out recently for a huge sums of money to an english club.
I just dont understand how english clubs have that kind of money...

FA Cup 2007
Yea its Magnus Hedman on loan to Chelsea.
He has been out of the game since retiring in summer 2005 afther a bad run of injuries led him to loose the place at the sweden site and leaving Celtic

English Clubs in EPL get lots of money through TV deals also.

There is talk of Larssen staying until the end of the season now. As far as money goes, they play in front 05 75k people every week these days, and TV revenue must be huge, but it has been silly season for fottball clubs for a long time now.
According to the figures that we see, a football club over here will generally pay around 70-80% of their turnover out in wages; that's crazy. By contrast, an efficient high street pub will pay out in the region of 15-18%, which makes them far more viable as a business but explains why you can't get a pint.....
