A win and the dreaded wooden spoon has been avoided.
James Hook stepped upto the mark and put in a fine display, When he deliberatly dropped the ball when playing advantage to take the penalty himself to go 9 points clear showed he has it in the top 2 inches (pinched that quote from Jonathan Davies)
Before this week I was still a Stephen Jones fan but when I walked out of Stadio Flaminio last week the first thing I said when I got in the bar was "Hook is a 10" and he showed it again today.
It will be tough to drop him after that performance but then your only as good as your last game, at the moment he has the 10 shirt for me.
Although we had a lot of possession I stil thought in the 2nd half that England would break away and score as they had done in the first half and take the match, similar to the Ireland game were not putting points on the board when were attacking.
Anyway
WE WON

France turned up and Wales went back to the dark ages, how were we supposed to know that was going to happen?

Looking back..... I still cant work out how England won some games. I thought on the whole they were the worsed side in the comp. Well ok, apart from Scotland.
I was quite impresed with the welsh today. It was the first time there forwards actually played as a unit and looked interested. If they did that from the start, the places could of been alot different.
As for Ireland, I bet they wish a rugby match only went on for 79 mins!!!!!

Talbotman
in my opinion the two worst sides in the competition were scotland and england and as i said before home advantage was crucial in that game i personnaly think if that game had been at murrayfield the reult would have went the other way but england beating scotland or scotland beating england is nothing to be proud of at this moment because they are both at a rebuilding stage
today the scotland coach actually picked the players i was looking for 4 weeks ago i said di rollo southwell brown and hall were crap they looked a lot better today with 2 good young wingers who will get better also patterson at full back and henderson in the centre and ford at ****** i hope he sticks with these guys now apart from bringing back jason white who was badly missed we have a young team who will improve today was no disgrace we were up against a team who were determined to be champions that last 2 minute drive for the winning try was amazing

I can see a few positives for England out of this tournament. Third place is ok for the stage they are at, they sure aren't world beaters anymore.
It's come to something when the Welsh win one single game in the tournament and consider that they have something to crow about.

We drew against the Italians - just the technicality that the scoreline did not reflect it
After seeing England's performance yesterday, if they were playing Italy next weekend - I'd have my money on the Italians, and I'm sure the bookies would not be giving me very goods odds either.
I think that England missed Fatty Catty after he went off injured.

I suppose the whole championship is a story of "If onlys" Jonny. If only Ireland hadn't gone to sleep against France when they thought the game was won! If only they hadn't let that try in from Italy that took away the points difference.
It must be hard to take for such a good Irish side not to win the championship, and look back to over 20 years since the last one. This year was their best chance, with the side they have now, and who knows when the chance will come next. No wonder O'Sullivan was gutted.

Hey, hang on, if we are allowed 'if onlys' then I would like to say that 'if only' France and Ireland were not so much better than England at the moment we would have won it!
