Six Nations
The tournament is on us again, and England are playing the worst rugby in living memory. Andy Robinson is gone and Brian Ashton’s first squad is looking, at the very least, a little adventurous.
It looks like sicknote himself will start against Scotland on Saturday, presumably on the grounds that he is the only semi-fit fly half in the country. Andy Farrell is set for a start at inside centre as well, so fair play to the new coach for taking a few chances.
I don’t see the Six Nations as a tournament England can win this time, but it would be good if they can compete. For me, Ireland will win with either Wales or France second, depending on which France team turns up. If France don’t finish second I believe they will end up below England in fourth. I also think that Scotland will spring a surprise somewhere along the line.
My prediction is:
1 Ireland
2 Wales
3 England
4 France
5 Scotland
6 Italy

and I've had a bet on:
1. Ireland
2. France
3. Wales
4. Scotland
5. England
6. Italy
sorry about the lowly place of England there Steve.....but no matter how I looked at it I couldn't rate them above Scotland......
In a way for RWC sake I would like to see England finish in the top two tho'

Final result of this year Six Nations might be hedged by the Worldcup preparation... However I think that Ireland will make it...Have been really impressed by some of their games in the Clubs European Cup....
1 - Ireland
2 - Wales
3 - France
4 - Scotland
5 - England
6 - Italy

Italy improve every year, but Scotland do too. I could well imagine Scotland and |France finishing above England. Maybe my table is picked through the over optimistic eyes of an English fan, but I think they have a good fixture list this time (not checked) and it has to come right for them at some stage.

Looking forward to this Six Nations for a couple of reasons.
I want to see if Ashton can improve a dismal Robinson coached England.
The backs look good, but I don't know if Wilkinson is ready for test rugby yet? Also wonder why Jason Robinson is returning. He has nothing to gain, and to be honest, it looked like opposition have worked him out. But its a better looking squad for sure.
Ireland are overwhelming favourites and rightly so. Playing lovely rugby and peaking just right for the WC later this year.
Wales and France you never know how well they will play on the day, and Scotland are improving at long last.
Poor Italy will finish bottom, but play a hard game and get better by the year.
My final table-:
Ireland
Wales
France
England
Scotland
Italy

Saturday 3rd February 2007
Six Nations
Italy v France Stadio Flaminio (13:30)
England v Scotland Twickenham (16:00)
Sunday 4th February 2007
Wales v Ireland Millennium Stadium (15:00)
Fixtures for the weekend, and I'm going to stick my neck out here and go for three home wins.
I could be wrong on all three:
Italy is wishful thinking (maybe - but they are hard to beat at home and improve every year)
England are due a decent tournament and the new coach might be a genius . I'm with Dawsey in that the backs look good, also not sure if Sicknote is ready but none of the others are test level No 10s. To my mind, we have 2 top drawer stand offs in the country and he is one of them.
Wales at home are a real tough prospect, and if Ireland go there believing their own hype then Wales are the team to upset them.

The Wales v Ireland game looks the match of the tournament for me.
So close to call at the Millenium Stadium. If it were in Ireland, then easy choice, but Wales are a tough prospect at home.
Amazing to realise Ireland haven't won a Grand Slam since 1985
England should beat Scotland, who haven't won at Twickenham for years.
I'm expecting a really fired up England performance.
France on a good day should easily beat Italy, but you never know. Italy are improving all the time and France are right off the pace going by the autumn internationals against NZ.

England's away games look tricky, Ireland and Wales, so that's where we will come unstuck. Ireland have a few tough away days too.
For me, if England just win their home games it will be a good tournament, that's how far we have fallen.

Sadly I agree Steve. Gone are the days when away wins were expected.
If we can't win the first two against Scotland and Italy, then we are worse that we thought.
Funnily enough, Scotland in particular, always save their best game for us, even if they have been crap for the other 4

If it was at Murrayfield, I would honestly go for a Scotland win and probably tip them to finish above us. They are not an easy game anymore.
The real question in this tournament will be which France team turns up, that will change the whole shape of it.

Talbotman
HERE IS my prediction of the final table
IRELAND
FRANCE
SCOTLAND
WALES
ENGLAND
ITALY
SCOTLANDS MATCHES
v england away win
v wales home win
v ireland home lose
v france away lose
v italy home win
i dont see any chance at all of beating ireland but away against france we have a slight chance i would be a lot more confident if we would get rid of the useless stand off dan parks and play chris patterson at no 10
we could be even stronger but so many important players are either injured or just returning from injury jason white and ally hogg especially these 2 plus mathew taylor are as good a back row as there is in international rugby but sadly 2 of them are missing most of the tournament

I can't see Wales finishing 4th, and I will wager you a ladydrink that you are wrong about the England game TM.

My prediction is
1. Ireland
2. France
3. Wales
4. England
5. Scotland
6. Italy
I think Ireland will be strong for the rest of the teams. But as other has said, it may depend on which French team turns up. Watching BBC world this morning, the French coach has already stated he is playing an experimental side in the opening game against Italy. If France lose that, it will be to late for them to mount a serious challenge.
As for England, I don't know how fit Johnny W is, and as for Andy Farrel starting, its a bit experimental too.

I don't think its about experimentation with England. I just don't think the players are good enough or experienced enough to do damage at international level. Besides I can't see Johnny Wilkinson lasting the tournament.
But then I have not seen the full squad only the highlights on BBC WORLD. Besdies im not really in touch any more with Premiership rugby in England.

If ireland win In Cardiff on Sunday I think they will go all way to a grand slam, We are struggleing for Sundays match at the moment with our backs, Shane Williams, Mark Jones, Tom Shanklin, Sonny Parker all injured at the moment and Gareth Thomas possibly banned we are short of first choice picks, Hopefully Peel, Jones & Hook will do the buisness but I feel Ireland have more than us in the back line for Sunday. I also belive we need someone up front to carry a bit more ball and then set up our backs with better faster ball.
Im not sure on the other teams but I don't think Italy are going to be the pushovers everybody is expecting They will give France a good run on Saturday, I just hope they don't do it on March 10th when I will be in Rome for the Match.
