Boxing-Mikkel Kessler

I just watched this kid from Denmark-1st time he fought on tv in the States
Wow-i am impressed with this kid
Just a good, clean technical fighter with power
He fought one of the toughest guys with a chin I ever seen
But what a fighter this kid Kessler is

You should ask Bono about him.. As he has been raving about him for ages

If he keeps putting in performances like that maybe he will ge the big one against Calzaghe...

But it was great for mikkel, as it was his first fight to be on tv in usa, so maybe it could open some doors for him.

I dont think he would fight Moudine again, he beat him easy in Aus at away from home, so why should he boks against him again.

His big dream is to get to fight Joe Calzaghe, but if you ask me, Joe is affraid to meet him, as he could be the one to break his record,

For Joe, all he wants now is money, so he is going to boks Peter manfredo?????? I remember he was in the tv show once, not a big fighter, and dont have a chance against Joe

i was thinking you must be a fan
i havent been that impressed with a new fighter in a long time
kid is good

the only thing is that division is not a glamour division-so not alot of big names for him to get the paydays

i apologize fro calling him "new"
"new" to me is any guy that is just starting to get name recognition
to me-this was his coming out party
im a hardcore boxing fan and only knew him from name but was excited to see him
the causal boxing fan wouldnt know him over here
and hope i dont offend-but until someone is relevant in the "states" when it comes to boxing-hes not relevant yet
that doesnt mean he has to fight in the states, although helps tremendously.
i would say Ricky Hatton is relevant in the States without fighting here, but the UK and Denmark is light years away when it comes to boxing

So yes Ally he should get the chance to fight Joe

thanks for the rankings
for me, the best division right now is Junior Lightweight with Manny Pacquioa, Barrerra and Marquez

I dont think he is scared, Well at least not in the way you put it..

I believe he thinks he can beat anyone but he also needs to be careful..

It has took him an awful longtime to get into the position he is now, And at this stage in his caraer he needs big name fighters, And with all due respect to Kessler he is not a "Big Name" thats not to say he is not a great fighter but to put your 10 yr undeafeated record on the line against a guy that hardly anyone knows in the states or the Uk for that matter would be professional suicide at this time, And there is not a chance in hell he will do that until he gets the big names he is chasing, I am 100% certain that he will fight Kessler before he retires but not before he gets the big names first...

At 168lbs there is not a lot of big names in that division

That's not that bad of money for a boxer at this stage in his career
I was very suprised that Andrade made 500k for that fight
U Danes did put 20k in the seats though-thats pretty good

I know but he is looking up the divisions for the big names...

Antonio Tarver, Roy Jones Jr, Clinton Woods, Bernard Hopkins...

And also down to maybe even Jermaine Tayler....

For what it is worth, the latest Kessler match got in the Bangkok Post press the other day. It is also the first time I had even heard of him, and I follow the fight game too as best I can...

39-0 is always going to be an impressive stat, but he has to start fighting on a bigger world stage IMO... and I guess that is what he is now doing. Yes, he can give, but can he take? That's the question that most analysts would ask.

Has he ever gotten knocked down or in trouble in fight and recovered? Not sure, but that is the true test of a great boxer, no?

Joe Calzaghe A Great Champion!!!!

OK so this was a total mis-match (Manfredo rated no5 WBO. WHAT A JOKE!!!)
that said Calzaghe is a great pro,a great fighter and a great champion,so taking the fight to appear on pay4view in the states was the smart option.Joe has had a tough time gaining the recognition his record should demand, due partly to the fact that when he first broke into the top 10,many of the top ranked fighters ducked him for sometime due to his style, and there was some reluctance to fight outside the UK.I think he has maybe 4-6 fights left in him at this level and looking across the rankings I can't see anyone he can't beat.Did I hear Frank warren right last night? I thought he said that Kessler was offered the fight in july but turned it down!

keep an eye on Carl Froch, getting better all the time, got a right dig on him!!

But Joe is a big champ I give you that, but only to the day Kessler beat him 5555

Your wrong, That is 100% true

Joe Calzaghe has offered to fight Kessler in July but Kessler turned him down..5555555..

He was offered big money aswell but does not feel this is the right time for him to fight Calzaghe, He feels he needs more fights and says he will fight him sometime down the road (probably when Calzaghe is over the hill ), So now his promoter "Frank Warren" has offered millions of dollars to Jermaine Tayler to fight Calzaghe instead..

So much for Calzaghe running, Its actually your boy who has ducked the fight...555555..

Thats because it was annonced after last nights fight, Give it time

He did say he will fight him sometime down the road, How far down is the question though?

Anyway hopefully Calzaghe can get Jermaine Tayler instead, That will be a great fight

I dont believe that to be true...

Now if it was said to a newspaper journalist and wrote in the paper then I would be a bit cynical, But the fact that he said it live on primetime British Tv plus going out on HBO makes me believe it is true..

Also dont you think that if it was rubbish, That Kessler would come out straight on Tv and say I will fight him in July and that these reports are bullshit?

The fact that this has not happened should tell you something

its all talk
calzaghe and kessler are the only marketable guys in that division
no one else
i dont think the governing bodies want them to fight just yet
they can make more money, especially since both of them are huge draws in their respective homelands, having them fight 1 or 2 different fighters before they match up
i dont want to hurt anyone's feelings, but alot of casual boxing fans in the states have not heard of these guys or just saw them for the 1st time
i think a couple more fights on HBO with a fight between the 2 next year generates the highest interest

What do you think of Peter Manfredo, I dont hope that us see him like a champ or anything close to that, he was a joke in that fight

Calzaghe is 35 but has not been really challenged in the division he fights in and still has incredible hand speed so I don't see his age as a factor too much
As for manfredo-no one in the states takes him serious
The only reason he got that fight was his name is a draw from the tv show he was on and he was an easy fight for ca
