Best sports fans
I am curious to hear what people's opinions of the best sports fans in the world are and maybe some experiences.
also, please dont start fighting about each other's fans. we can start a new thread for that
i really cant be un-biased with this because I am a die-hard Boston guy so I will instead tell you what i thought the coolest fan story i have seen
Ray Bourque was one of the all-time Boston Bruin(NHL) greats. at the end of his career he was traded to the Colorado Avalanche where they won the Stanley Cup.
aftee the City of Boston had a parade in his honor even though he won the Stanley Cup in Colorado!!! I thought that was one fo the classiest moves by any fan base and city i have ever seen

I am not much into sport, but I seem to hear again and again that the Danish football/soccer fans take the price.
From Wikipedia ( Denmark national football team - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia): Apart from the national team, Denmark is equally famous for its traveling fans, known as roligans. The movement emerged during the 1980s as the declared opposition to hooliganism. The goal of the roligan movement is calm, yet cheerful, support during the matches, as rolig means calm in the Danish language. The roligans have since developed an image of easy-going nature and rabid support, and are often considered amongst the world's best national team fans, along with the Tartan Army of Scotland. They were collectively given the FIFA FairPlay Award at the 1984 European Championships. Just before the 1986 World Cup, the roligan movement was organized in order to support the national team at the tournament.

If i had to choose a team i would have said Newcastle Utd personally. I find the geordies the most fanatical in the country and probably one of the most hostile stadiums i have ever been to... (and thats a fair few)
However out of England then i would maybe go as far as Seville. A derby game between Seville and Bettis is something else altogether... they have a passionate crowd there.

The best sports fans are the Dutch going to Speed skating events all over the world. Spped skating is in our blood and large groups of fans travel all over the world even bringing their own marching band to increase the atmosphere.
Even the top skaters from other countries love these fans as they are not only cheering for the Dutch but also the other guys.

JUST EXACTLY the same as the scottish tartan army
the problem with this question is you will never get a definative answer mainly because of individual bms allegiances to their sporting teams
i do agree that for supporting the-ir team and fervour then liverpool fc are amongst the best ? but the best not in my opinion to be the best you need to support your team through thick and thin through bad times amd good who are we to say that supporters of say leyton orient fc are not the best why not? they have been supporting and following a team who have been languishing in englands lower leagues for 25 years
it is easy to be a fan of a succesful club following a club who have little or no chance of ever winning anything now there is loyalty !
before ally jumps in and says west ham win nothing dont forget its only a year since a wonder goal stopped them winning the fa cup
i would not dream o f saying west ham fans are the best because although they are fervant and loyal they LIKE liverpool fc have a history of incidents behind them and that rules them out (same as liverpool)
I HAVE no special liking for glasgow celtic fc same as rangers but these guys travel in huge numbers all over europe and never have any problems so in my opinion i would rate them tops !

Sorry i will disagree with you on this point. Both Celtic and Rangers have a history. If you go back to the 70's and 80's some of the stuff they have done in England is on par to what English clubs have done. Generally the image of Scottish fans is good, at least compared to their English counterparts.
Only a few years ago there were incidents in Moscow between groups of CSKA? I believe anyway and Rangers, where one incident finished at a hotel in Moscow where 2 Rangers fans were litterally robbed in a lift in their hotel.
To say they were in a skirmish before would be pure speculation and unfair, however an incident happened. Secretaian chants also such as from Rangers "hello hello, we are the billy boys". I'm sure Celtic have a few also.
I know both clubs have been trying to clear this up (Also i'm only saying about Rangers because I know a lot more about them through friends that are big Rangers fans)
What about a qualifier for world cup 2002? possibly anyway between Northen Ireland and Russia with Moscow the battle scene again. Could this be a case of Russians starting this, quite possibly and I would not be suprised, but yet again another incident.
IMHO, It's the reporting that is wrong here as It's always English clubs start trouble. I have been away with Chelsea in Europe 10 times at least and the only 2 incidents I remember were Marseille when their fans threw coins at us and FC Copenhagen where I got a shiner. It's all based on your view point is what i am trying to say.

What I also found very nice was the interaction between the football fans from Ireland and Holland. Over the years, we played each other on various tournaments. Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose.
But after the game it always ended up in a big joined party. A nice example was the party after the match during the Worldcup 1994 in Florida after Holand won 2-0.

You are not going to tell me that the Dutch footballfans are so good. Heard of the battles between Feijenoord, Ajax, PSV, Utrecht and probably a few others.

There was a famous battle between Feyenoord and Ajax in a field which ended up with a death of a Ajax fan.
Holland is strange for football tho. The fans of the Dutch national side are well behaved fans, a total contradiction of there club football. The reason being, The fans of the various clubs hate each other so much that they can't put aside there differnces and will not follow the national side. This basically means all the 'lads' stay at home and all that is left are the family groups follow the national side.

You are right. National Team fans are great and don't cause any problems anywhere.
But the club fans are terible. The worst are from Feijenoord and ADO Den Haag, followed by those who support Ajax and FC Utrecht. The incident you refer to, happened about 10 years ago and is still brought up here on occassion. I hate that.

CYBERNATOR i miswrote my quote i was not putting rangers fans forward as being best fans i know they have a bad record of behaviour in europe !
what i was saying was i have no love for either rangers or celtic football club
but i still defy anyone to tell me when celtic fans have become involved in any trouble in europe
celtic v rangers matches are a special case its total and pure hatred in those games i reckon that about 10% of both teams fans if they were given a machine gun on match day would walk up to the opposing fans and let rip !
that will never change its just a bad religous culture thing which excists in the west of scotland ITS SHAMEFUL
most of the tartan army are from other scottish clubs very few old firm fans travel abroad to watch scotland,

No problems, I understood what you were saying, however as my knowledge of Rangers is far better then Celtic so i could only used them as an example. I'm sure Celtic have beeen involved in trouble somewhere... I have "HEARD" about trouble when they have come over the border to England before in the old days, but i do use the term "heard" because this was before my time and i don't know any Celtic fans bar one but he is just an armchair fan now.
I also agree with you about the hatred between Celtic and Rangers because of Religion is terrible, and yes i agree with you that it will never change.
Maybe i typed what i wanted wrong so i apologise for any misunderstanding here.
Also yes i agree with you on your list point. From my understanding (which is limited) the old firm fans don't travel well (i assume because they hate each other so much that they would kick it off between each other and iirc there is a political side to this also), but i did hear that Aberdeen do travel well. However this is only from what i have heard so i could be very wrong.

Even Scousers who were at last years Cup Final have said to me that they were out sung by the West Ham faithful.
After the 4-1 drubbing by Chelski this season, staring almost certain relegation in the face, most of us just stayed and danced around Upton Park.
Of course I'm biased.
