Manchester City have signed their third player of the day with the £8million capture of Brazilian midfielder Elano Blumer from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Elano's arrival continues a remarkable spending spree which has already seen Croatia international Vedran Corluka and Spaniard Javier Garrido join the club on Thursday.

New manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has now made seven new signings since he took over with Rolando Bianchi, Martin Petrov, Gelson Fernandes and Geovanni also moving to the club."

Dodger, you must be feeling a little bit moist by now!

Anyone doubting my top six prediction?

"MANCHESTER, England: Sven Goran Eriksson's Manchester City revolution gathered pace as he made Brazil winger Elano his third signing in a matter of hours on Thursday.

Elano arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk for eight million pounds on a busy day for Eriksson, who had already swooped for Real Sociedad's Javier Garrido and Dinamo Zagreb's Vedran Corluka.

The Brazilian, who played a key role in his country's Copa America victory last month, agreed a four-year contract just hours after Eriksson paid 1.5 million pounds for Spain Under-21 defender Garrido, who signed a four-year contract.

Eriksson also added Corluka for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around seven million pounds, with the Croatia defender signing a five-year contract.

The former England coach had already signed Rolando Bianchi, Martin Petrov, Gelson Fernandes and Geovanni since arriving at Eastlands last month and he isn't finished spending yet.

Fiorentina striker Valeri Bojinov is next on his shopping list and the Bulgarian is believed to be in England to complete a six-million-pound move from the Serie A club.

Eriksson's spree has been bankrolled by City's new Thai owner Thaksin Shinawatra and has made them one of the Premiership's biggest spenders during the close season.

City chief executive Alistair Mackintosh said, "This morning has proved to be an immensely productive one, the outcome of which is the acquisition of three top quality players for Manchester City."

"This has been achieved as a result of some tremendous team work and I would like to praise everyone involved for their efforts. I would particularly like to thank Dr Thaksin, without whom today's signings would not have been possible." - AFP/ac"

'Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough'.

City fans chants to fellow city fan and world light welterweight champion, Ricky Hatton, at the Valencia game yesterday.

Okay Okay, moistening a little but now I'm getting worried with so many different nationalities that it will take a season to find any kind of team shape and organisation, but must admit getting a little excited and he has still got a couple more players in his sights.

Looked at the squad yesterday and for numbers of players we have all of a sudden got strength in depth in every position, last season hardly a striker and couldn't score to save our lives, this year 7 strikers in the side, let alone a further 4 attacking midfield options.

Still not convinced on top 6 position but I'm starting realistically to think no longer about potential relegation position but warming to the idea of upper realms!!! (yeah okay really didn't want to say, thinking of top 6 position now)

So who are the other top half table contenders for places 5 and 6, Spurs, West Ham, Newcastle, Middlesborough?, Portsmouth? cannot see too many others.

Time for an update........

We have transfer-listed three senior players - Ousmane Dabo, Paul Dickov and Danny Mills.

Dabo may not be around for the trial, I can't see any English club wanting him......

Eriksson is closing in on his ninth signing, Australian midfielder Mark Bresciano for £3million from Palermo.

Dodger, glad to read you're getting a bit more optimistic. I think the fight for 5th and 6th is going to involve Arsenal and Spurs (one of them will take 4th spot) and City, Villa and Portsmouth. I'm surprised you mentioned Boro in that mix, I don't think they'll be anywhere. And Newcastle, a good manager (more important than a lot of people realise) but it'll take time with the squad he's got. I mean Barton? He wouldn't be guaranteed a starting spot at City now.... And West Ham, I see them really struggling this year.

The Official Manchester City Thread.......

The quality in the team now are better than the last century

How long time they will need to co-ordinate the players only time wil show.
Think its funny how al seems to predict this season over last season results, when you see how most of the teams change both leadership and players, and its like this, when manu buy a new player nobody have a clue about hes a star of course

Many teams have get some quality players inn and i say it again, its not only
about the four, team 6,7,8 etc have the same quality nowadays in player squad.

Its about getting a team with big T.

West Ham 0 - City - 2

Off to a brilliant start.. It was great to finally see some of the talent that Sven has brought in, and I never doubted that they would be good footballers despite all the hype about how the players were bought without Sven actually seeing any of them play in the flesh. Sven told it as it is : "It can only be stupid people who say I would sign players I did not know anything about. OK, I haven't seen all of them play nine or 10 times but I have big scouting staff at the club and I have as many videos as I need to watch.
I've always signed good football players. And with these ones, some are young and for the future and some, like Martin Petrov and Elano, are more experienced."

And doesn’t the future look bright. Petrov, Elano and Bianchi all look class acts, Geovanni also impressed for the short time he was on the pitch. Bojinov looks to be a right handful. The two defenders, Corluka and Garrido both looked capable. Richards and Dunne in the centre of defense were brilliant.
Loved the goals………Elano’s surging run at the West Ham defense from the halfway line then his low cross to Bianchi at the far post, followed up by Onuoha doing a similar thing down the right side for Geovanni’s well-struck finish. Felt a bit nervous with young Schmeichel in goal but he did OK. One thing I can’t figure is there seems to be a unanimous opinion that Hamman had a brilliant game, I thought he was average at best……even Curbishley said "Their passing was miles ahead of ours and they were definitely the most dangerous team. Dietmar Hamann dictated the play and just strolled around the place, we had nothing."
To be realistic (not one of my strong points where City are involved), West Ham were missing some key players and there's a long way to go between now and next May.

Reading reports this morning I notice press are displaying their lazy streaks with Elano’s effort for the first goal being variously attributed to Ireland, Petrov and Onuoha (who hadn’t even entered the game at that point) and one of them had even rated Ireland a 7 and Elano a 6 on that basis. I don’t think these reporters actually saw the game.

Another thing I noticed is that all the players are referred to by their surname apart from Elano (Blumer). Now, it’s been pointed out on Man City chat forums that ‘El ano’ is Spanish for ‘the a*sehole’, Sven was quoted as saying he never had Elano playing for England……….I disagree

Anyway, Derby on Wednesday, another three points then United in for a good kicking next Sunday

I always think that Nicke and have done for many years but for some stupid two game, over enthusiasm, eager to dream, I reckon we might, could, maybe, well okay I'll say it, we could actually get a result this weekend.

United are missing a few key players, yes they have a big and very good squad but not full strength. City are riding high on confidence, only beaten two of the lesser clubs so far but won none the less.

My only worry is United have got to turn up the volume, two games two draws is not their usual start to the season, but I thought that before last night as well so.................got scared now and feel my prediction will be one goal apiece, a draw, but i'm secretly hoping, cos as a city fan beating united is right up there.

Derby Day

OK, so we got our 1-0 win against Derby County now we've got a real couple of tests in Man U today then Arsenal next Saturday.

The Manchester Derby is being built-up in the press with reports that Sven has bought SAF a bottle of expensive wine but SAF's not going to share it with him. He's going to take it home and drink it on his own.

Strange game......Man City held due mainly to 2 great defenders.........keeper Schmiechel was pathetic.....as were Utd's finishing skills......and a deflected goal to City.

City were lucky to get the 3 points.....but United can't complain as they had so many chances to put the ball in the back of the net and blew them all.

What a brilliant win, City were outplayed by United, i do not think they had loads of chances but a few, but couldn't break down the defence, Micah Richards was awesome.

You say Utd had nothing to win, how about their first win of the season.!!

Watched the gooners play yesterday and they were awful, bring them on I say. And congratulations to Snorter, Petter and all other Man City Forum members, wish we had all been here last night!!!

I watched Man Utd tv channel this morning with a repeat from last night. Lou Macari before the game was so dismissive of City's chances. He was describing the team and said the new man at right back Corradi, actually Lou its Corluka. He couldn't name the left back and just said another new player of not much significance (Garrido). He then went on to say how during Alex Fergusons period at Old Trafford city have had 10 managers and never done anything since the 70's.

It was so annoying but immensly enjoyable all at the same time because of course I already knew the result. Choke on that Louie boy!!!!

I'm still really pleased at the result, we hardly ever beat them and this time before the game I actually felt like we had a chance. And as for IJ putting a bet on us rather than the red boys well, things never cease to amaze me. Although saying that he is fairly shrewd and serious when it comes to his betting and he would have won a tidy sum.

Petter I'll find a cigar shop today and get a few of the biggest they have!!! great seeing as Nicke has now come over to the sky blue side of Manchester, he's even sending me sms's about the score!!

Dodger, you mean there's more city fans on the board, I thought it was just me, you and Petter!!

It feels good to be a City fan right now and yep, it would have been brilliant to have been there..........I've never even seen the COM.

There's just so much to say about the game, Micah Richards and Richard Dunne, in particular, were outstanding. Corluka also had a good game. We could have done without Bon Jovi's injury but Sven reckons he's still going to bring in a couple more players before the transfer window closes. I still can't see what people see in Hamman and hope one of Sven anticipated signings is a replacement.
Two things really made me smile. The 'ole, ole' when we were knocking the ball around for that brief spell just after we scored, and SAF jumping up thinking Tevez had scored right at the end. It was reported that the smile dropped off his face and "the colour drained from his ruddy complexion"

Then I watched the Arsenal game and Lehmann really made me smile.........you know, I've disliked Lehmann for quite a while but he's quickly becoming my favourite player in the prem. I hope he's playing next Saturday.

Enjoy your cigars!
