The Official Manchester City Thread.......
I'm excited about the upcoming season with all that's been going on at city, a new owner , a new manager and three new signings
Pre-season friendlies:
Doncaster 1 - City 3
Orgryte 1 - City 4
Carlstad United 0 - City 4
Bianchi and Corradi are both scoring goals, academy players are excelling and latest rumours are we're after Atletico Madrid winger Martin Petrov.
A prediction before the season starts:
6th in the prem (at least) and semi-final in FA cup (at least)

I never cared about Prem League but I have more "connections" to city than any other team, Thai owned and a swedish coach, so I hope they will be doing fine.

A season of midtable'ness again for City this year. They might do well in a cup if they BIG boys are still trying for other things come February.
LOoks like Petrov will be at Tottenham rather than city due to them showing interest since this time last year and him and Berbetov being 'mates'.
I think City will be difficult to beat at home (S.G.Ericksson negative tactics!) but on their travels I think they will only win a few. But then this could work the other way round.

Difficult to beat home with negative tactics
I am not a fan of SG,but one thing shal he have,he have trained clubs like
SS Lazio (1997-2001) -U.C. Sampdoria (1992-1997) -SL Benfica (1989-1992)
ACF Fiorentina (1987-1989) -AS Roma (1984-1987) -SL Benfica (1982-1984)
IFK Göteborg
So he probably knows little about football, any other manager done the same in Brittan?
And if i dont remember wrong he did win the league with both Lazio and Benfica, and even the cups.
Dont think it was with negative tactics
What he did with England dosent matter, who can do anything with them.
Make gold of bricks can nobody do.

What he did with England was 2nd best England manager of all time .....
He's also the ONLY manager in the world to do the league and cup double in THREE countries .......so I reckon yes, he probably does know a little about football .

How long you been out of the country? They have stoped the Anglo-Italian cup in the championship!
His tactics suit Italian league very well. And is very Effective! But will it work with an English team in the premiership! Im not too sure. I think he will stablise the club and make them difficult to beat. But anyone who saw has seen any of his sides play, can say he plays with defensive tactics. Just go back to the world cup, where instead of bringing on a pacy player. He contiuned using the same tired players and negative tactics. Still he got England through to the penalty shoot-out! Oh yeah.........

Was reading Sunday (Daily) Mail on the way back to Phuket and good story in there about how Thaksin potentially going to get boned on his City deal as his real angle was to get into the Manchester Super Casino that Gordon Brown has now shelved. Oh dear ... poor old Mr T.

Snorter, I've been a die hard life long City fan but seem do not share your enthusiasm for success at Eastwood this season, just yet. We still need at least 2 or 3 more class players, he is still hanging with Corradi who has had a better start in the friendlies but remember the friendlies are against low class opposition.
I'm going to hope but realistically wait and see if we get any more new signings and see how we do against Valencia. 6th not sure, do you know the bookies have us at 4-1 to be relgated!! hmmm

At least there is 1 fan that is not delusional in thinking that miracles will happen overnight, I personally believe that it will take at least 2-3 years for city to be competitive with the top teams that is assuming they get cash injections to continue building the team over that period..........

Saw in the paper today that Thaksin wants Sven to bring a couple of Thai international players to City.
I bet Sven will enjoy his trip to LOS to check out the local talent!

From Footba'365, just now:
"Manchester City have signed Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov from Atletico Madrid, subject to a work permit."
and from City's official website:
"
Martin Petrov has become Sven-Goran Eriksson's fourth signing after moving to City from Atletico Madrid.
The Bulgarian winger has passed a medical at City's Carrington training ground and moves to the club on a three-year contract for a fee of £4.7million, subject to a work permit.
The 28-year-old started his career with CSKA Sofia and has subsequently impressed at Servette of Switzerland, the Bundesliga's VfL Wolfsburg and most recently at Atletico.
Capped more than 60 times by his country, Petrov is a crucial part of Bulgaria's attempt to qualify for next year's European Championships, which at the moment sees them in second place in Group G.
Petrov's blistering pace and eye for goal is sure to give City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson options on the left flank, a position that has proved difficult to fill for the Blues over the last few seasons.
City Chief Executive Alistair Mackintosh says: "Unsurprisingly given the calibre of the player, there were a significant number of clubs competing for Martin's signature, and I am absolutely delighted that he has come to Manchester City.
"Having Sven-Goran Eriksson as our manager proved to be a major factor in the player's decision to move here."
Petrov will wear the number 15 shirt."
Where's sishow............

Football player quote translation file:

=
"Having been offered £20,000 more a week in pay, than any other club, proved to be a major factor in the players decision to move here."
Still, I think it is a good signing for City. But will it make you a contender? I doubt it!

The one signing alone will not for sure, but this comes on the back of three farely significant signings and I can assure you that there'll be at least two more before the transfer window closes.
Here's another prediction for you, I feel Brazilian playmaker Elano Blumer may be the next one, negotiations are said to be at an advanced stage.

3 significant signings? I'll give you Petrov as a good signing and maybe geovanni as possible, if he settles in, being a Brazillian. Fernandes is a bit of an unknown, could be good or bad, but may take a season to settle.
As for Bianachi, I have never seen him play but 18 goals last season looks impressive. Still didn't Samaras and Corradi have a good season before joining city? THey didn't look very impressive in the premiership. OK, they may take time to settle in, as you have said before, Corradi looks good in the pre-seasons. But will that translate in to the league campaign, or will he be given the transision season most imported forwards need? Especially considering the new owner and the money he has pumped in! I hope he does as City has always been a club I liked (Despite having to live with five mad fans while at uni digs!).
To be honest I still think your best forward is Mpenza. From what ive seen he has the attitude to deal with the premiership along with the pace, strength and finishing touch. I would start with him, even if he may not be a big money signing!
Just my thoughts!

Hmm, this page has more in it than Man City's trophy cabinet.
I fancy another long season of disappointment for City fans. The new signings dont exactly inspire thoughts of league titles.

It's all happening at Eastlands...........
Elano:
"Before accepting the proposal, I asked if they were signing more players and if the idea was to mount a challenge to fight with the big clubs of England. When they answered 'yes', I have accepted it.
"Eriksson is a great person, a personality? I am keen to work with him and to play in the Premier League."
"The directors told me that they're going to sign more Brazilians. But, I cannot reveal the names."
Bojinov:
"I have already spoken with Martin Petrov and I'm very happy to be able to play with him. I must thank Sven Goran Eriksson, who has explained all his ambitions to me: I know this is a great opportunity for me.
Thanks also to the fans and the leaderships of Lecce, Fiorentina and Juventus; after all this time passed in Italy, I felt the need to go abroad."
And:
Manchester City are signing Real Sociedad midfielder Javi Garrido.
Garrido's £1.5 million move to City is expected to be confirmed by Real today after club officials last night admitted that "the transfer isn't yet official, but, yes, it is very close".
And:
In addition, Eriksson is ready to pay £4million for Croatia defender Vedran Corluka.
The 21-year-old was part of the Croatian side which defeated England in the Euro 2008 qualifiers last October and while the Dinamo Zagreb star would not qualify for a work permit under the current criteria, City are almost certain to win any appeal.
And we're also upping the bid for Chiellini.
Geez, I need to go and lie down.........
I hope we beat Shrewsbury.
.
