I think he needs to play a strong forward against Pompey. They tend to have big physical defenders. I too would not be surprised if Saha and Tevez both get a run.
I hope United wallop then personally but I do speak from a biased perspective.
I expect to see Tottenhams first win of the season tonight and possibly a few draws tomorrow. Don't be surprised if Chelsea get a late goal again to win at Reading.

Marching orders
"And as a final throw in just out of interest, who will be the first manager in the Prem to get his marching orders ?"
I hope it is Harry Redknapp but he tends to walk rather than cop the boot.
I would punt for Sanchez or perhaps Paul Jewell. I think Wigan are in for a tough year.

I know this subject has come to fruition early this season but i couldn't help but notice referee inconsistancy AGAIN in the weekend games. A good referee is one who is hardly noticed throughout the game...unlike Alan Wiley for example (the little big man) who always seems to act like a Sgt Major on the park. Also the ref in the Arsenal game, how that wasn't a penalty in the 1st half i'll never know. I'll be honest i hate the Gooners but i'm just into fair consistant reffing.
Also it seems what is never given as a foul, penalty decision, booking in the 1st half is given in the 2nd for exacly the same offence. Its almost like for the refs are saying for the 1st half we'll be lenient and the second we're clamping down on everything, it pi##es me off, wish they'd just make consistant decisions for the whole 90 mins.
And as a final throw in just out of interest, who will be the first manager in the Prem to get his marching orders ?
My opinion Arsen Wenker (just joking) Laurie Sanchez-Fulham A loose cannon!
|
Lets be fair, first the ref missed out on a penalty for Arsenal and to compensate for that he later decided NOT to give one to Fulham. The Fulham manager seemed to forget about the one NOT given to Arsenal in his complaints.

err... Paul Jewell resigned last season after helping Wigan stay in the EPL. Said the premiership is too stressful for him.
I think Sammy Lee will be the first to go.

Actually he didnt say that
He resigned because he was unhappy that in the previous season all the players who he wanted to sign, Didnt want to go to Wigan as it was not a big enough club, And he felt he could not take Wigan any futher than he already had... The chairman Dave Whelan came out and said that it was due to stress and that Jewell could not cope anymore, Which Jewell blatantly denied and said it was absolute nonsence and he could not understand why the Chairman said that
Now the New Gaffer is Chris Hutchings and I think he will be the first for the chop

Well if you were watching the same game as me you'll see that the Fulham foul was committed just outside the box, hence why the ref didn't give it...
Btw i suggest you get Adebayor fit rather sharpish because without Henry you guys look lost up front and i quite rate Adebayor... however you'll never replace Henry he was and still would be the best striker in the Prem..

I dont know which game you were watching but I am talking about the incident in the first half of the Arsenal game against Fulham were Blaird fouled Hleb inside the box without touching the ball. There was NEVER a dispute wether this incident happened inside or outside the box, neither from Sanches or any commentators. This is what the telegraph writes about it:
Lawrie Sanchez felt the decision owed something to a couple of first-half appeals that Dowd had rejected. The Fulham manager accused Arsenal of "blatant simulation". But video evidence suggested that Hleb had been unlucky not to win an award following Chris Baird's sprawling challenge, and that a furious Fulham appeal against Cesc Farbregas was no more than a tangle of legs.

Excuse me asking but do you understand english very well or just a little bit???
If you read my first post in this thread i clearly wrote "how the ref didn't award a penalty to Arsenal in the first half is beyond me" ok got that
Then you made the point about the fact the ref didn't give Fulham a penalty and i said "He didn't give a penalty to Fulham in 2nd half because the player was impeded just outside the box"
Read first, understand and then write you're reply.....geez no wonder your an arsenal fan.... and this is only the first game of the season... i hope your computer blows up !!!!! Talk about hard work

I thought BM's might be interested in this table of 'Englishness' of clubs in the premiership. About a week ago I did a quick search of wikipedia and checked the number of English players against the squad size of each of the premiership clubs.
Please understand ‘Englishness’ does not necessarily equate to greatness because West Ham are top by a long way. Arsenal, to their shame, come last, relegated by December type last. Reading have an astonishing squad of 40 while Villa have half that, 20.
Here it is: Club: No of English/ No of squad members
West Ham: 20/33
Boro: 17/30
Spurs: 17/35
Derby: 16/28
Newcastle: 13/30
Wigan: 12/27
Villa: 10/20
Everton: 11/25
Reading: 15/40
Utd: 11/28
Chelsea: 10/27
CITY: 10/29
Liverpool: 10/32
Birmingham: 9/26
Sunderland: 9/27
Portsmouth: Fulham: 9/34
Bolton: 7/31
Blackburn: 7/33
Arsenal: 3/26.
P.S. Things may have changes in the past week.

Nanook, I read your post and that's what promted me to post this League, just wasn't sure which thread to post on.
I agree with your sentiments about losing your best Dutch players abroad. A few years ago it was England that were losing their best to Italy and Spain.
There's also a school of thought that says having so many foriegn players is bad for your home grown talent...........I prescribe to the opposing belief that it raises the standard of football and can only be good for your young local footballers.

Yes. exactly. I will post my reply to your post in my own thread, since it is more about football in general and not only related to the premier league. Trust you and our dear mods agree.

This is in fact what you CLEARLY wrote: Also the ref in the Arsenal game, how that wasn't a penalty in the 1st half i'll never know.
A big difference wouldnt you say considering the fact there were several incidences in the match? Since you obvious dislike Arsenal and their fans ( you write you hate gooners) I understood you meant the incident that I mentioned. Sorry I misunderstood that but maybe you should really write more CLEARLY in the future so it is clear what you mean??

Oh, I would be surprised if you did not understand it clearly 55555
The other incident was inside the box, clearly that was the case. However, I am not a ref but are the rules different if you foul someone by accident or deliberate?? It seems Fabregas accidently with his foot fouls the Fulham player on his achilles so he falls when he is in a scoring position. Maybe so, but it would still be a penalty according to the rules wouldnt it??

Yes I think both of them were clear penalties, The ref had a bad day...
Btw Lawrie Sanchez has just apoligised for accusing Hleb of diving, He said after reviewing the tape he could clearly see that Hleb was fouled and he was not diving, And should have been awarded a penalty

Hehe, and I tipped Spurs for a good season, and Everton for a bad one Just shows how much I know 55555.
I reckon there will be some strange results for the first few matches.
