Watched the Charity Cup last night, enjoyed it after months without football.
Man Utd has a very big squad this season, especially in midfield and defence.
I am with Man Utd all the way.

Amazing... Edwin van der Sar stopping 3 penalties... Seems he has a new specialty as he was never quite strong on this aspect of the game.

Premiership....07-08..
Nja,premiership isent only about Manu and Chelski anymore.
So many teams have bought foreign quality players so its not only two teams that can do it i think.
And you can only use 11 at the time, and dont think that two teams have better managers than the rest.

Man. Utd again
My guess for top 5 will be:
1) Man.Utd. So many can score goals this season and they will and entertain like never before!!
2) Arsenal. Better than people think and with a tighter defence they will be hard to beat.
3) Liverpool. Will do better this year but not good enough?
4) Chelsea. Too much will rely on Drogba this season. And is he up for it?
5) Tottenham. Some very good players now, but Martin Jol is not a winner.

I guess, you made a nice analyses. On Arsenal, you may be right. I saw them play Lazio Roma last Thursday in the Amsterdam Arena and they really played not bad at all. On Saturday the beat Ajax and although the goal itself was a bit lucky, they did have the better part of the game and I think they are a force to reckon with.
Liverpool is quite good and bought a couple of fine players like Torres and Ryan Babel. I feel these guys can make Liverpool stronger and give Rafael Benitez more options.
On Chelski, you may be right as Drogba is too important for them and if something happens to him their whole attack falls apart.
And Martin Jol... he is good, but no wonder as he was born just 4 km from where I live... 555555....

Yes Liverpool may be a big surprise this year but can they go all the way?? Doubt they will be better then Unietd but second place may be withinn reach.
I think it will be much tighter this season with 3-4 teams following each other untill way into the second part of the season. Lets hope so anyway...

My prediction is....
1. Man Utd - The team to beat!!
2. Chelsea - Will push Utd all the way!!
3. Liverpool - Will be much closer this time, But need more time to Gel!!
4. Spurs - Lots of firepower up front, Some great signings!!
5. Arsenal - Still the best footballing team, On there day can beat anyone but they are just to fragile, And on those cold windy damp nights up north they will struggle, Also not enough firepower upfront, If they lose Van Persie they will be fcuked!!

ESPNStar here dont show so many games.
Will be getting the Sunderland game, West Ham and Liverpool game then on Sunday both Chelsea and Man Utd games.
Others are all shown as highlights.
Next Sunday Games are even more interesting, Man Utd vs Man City, Liv vs Chelsea.

I would pick them in the same order Ally.
1. Man Utds close seasons signings have been very good, and when Tevez arrives they will be so much stronger in attack. I fancy them to win by possibly 10 points or more.
2 Chelsea rely far too much on Drogba for his goals and Terry and Cech to stop them. Maloud looks a decent signing, but if Shevchenko doesn't score goals from the off (injured at the moment) then they will be in trouble. Still hard to beat though. Terry out for the first 4weeks will be a big blow.
3. Liverpool have done well with their close season signings. Off loaded huge flop Bellamy and replaced him with a class striker in Torres. He and Kuyt will cause problems again. Once again, Liverpool will look to Gerrard for supply. If he is missing they could struggle. Like Ally I fancy them to be much closer to Utd and Chelsea.
4 Spurs. Great set of forwards now with the addition of Bent have plenty of goal scoring options. But if Ledley King misses to many games, their defence is always suspect.
5 Arsenal. Not convinced that their new Brazilian signing is the answer to goalcoring enough. Van Persie needs a regular run but he is a very good player. Plenty of good youngsters, but not enough again to challenge Utd and Chelsea.IMO.
Surprise team? That will be Everton doing really poorly and maybe close to the drop. They haven't improved the team at all.

Spurs fans will take some of that. Hardly generous to Utd and Chelsea though.

Seems to me most people agree on the top 5, but guessing the next 5 is a bit more tricky. Anyway, this is my guess:
6) Newcastle. The new manager will imprpove this team alot and with some decent buyings they will be top of the rest! With their resources they might in a couple of years challenge the top 4-5 teams.
7) Aston Villa. They will improve from last season and might have something going for them.
8) Sunderland. Keane will get this team to fight and Sunderland will win many games also against top teams with their spirit.
9) Blackburn. A good side that at times can play nice football but they will face tough competition for a place in Europe
10. Man City. Despite many new players and fresh money I dont think Erickson will change city to anything more than a mediocre team in the premiership.

I'd go with all those except Sunderland Tommy. They will not find it so easy as last season. And their strikers are long in the tooth (Yorke and possibly Andy Cole)
West Ham I fancy won't struggle like last season and may break into the top 10

Maybe you are right, but there is always one or two teams that surprises and this season I think that may be Sunderland.

The money factor makes it not much different to last year unfortunately

Sam Allardyce just signed another player, Jose Enrique from Villarreal.
I fancy Blackburn to do well also this season.
Would be interesting to see what Martin O Neil can do, has he signed any big names? I think he has been criticised for that huh? But big names dont guarantee wins.
Sunderland, erm...Roy Keane. Cant wait to see them play the 1st game of the season.
How bout predictions for bottom 3?

I'm sorry to say Liverpool have been weak in pre season and we could drop a load of points early on again, I really can't see us challenging Man U at all. I'd agree with the bookies but if spurs are anything like 80/1 on betfair I am all over that shit and laying it off when the price bombs in a few weeks/months - guaranteed profit.
As for the drop Sunderland & Blues are safe and Derby & Wigan are down for sure, Wigan really rode their luck last season. I agree with Dawsey Everton could be a surprise team in the danger zone, to go along with Fulham and Bolton.

It's a pretty sad reflection on this competition IMO that only 4 teams are under 80/1 to win the title.

Why Mav?? how many other top leagues in the world have more than 4 teams with a realistic chance of winning their league???

This should be a really interesting Season - i never make predictions (in public that i can be held accountable for) but here is what i think about the top teams:
Man Utd: for me they are the favourites but not the shoe-in many think they are for the title. They lack a true centre forward (with Saha injured) and the defence looks very thin (squad wise). Superb attacking midfield tho.
Chelsea: can't believe they have the same huge injury problems again. Drogba is key for them this season but have a feeling they have dropped below what they had last season. ACN will really hurt them too.
Liverpool: Will Torres take them where they want to be - maybe, if Benitez lets him and builds the attack around him instead of rotating and fiddling all the time.
Arsenal: I am Quietly confident in our prospects this season - it's nice to be completely written off (by most) and i think we have potential to surprise everyone.
Spuds: They needed a left winger and a decent central midfielder and they bought more strikers...typical. Looking forward to laughing at them throughout the season (hi pintofstella).
Newcastle: Big Sam (fat miserable cnut more like) will be under big pressure like he hasnt known before but i think he can drag the magpies back up near the top.

I read yesterday that Benitez is finally coming to his senses and will play Gerrard in central midfield this season. That should bolster Liverpools chances considerable IMO!!
I agree, Derby and Wigan will go down and hopefully Tottenham as well 55555555555

Too much credit has gone to spurs and newcastle.
As always, they overpromise with a promising squad.
But when push comes to shove, they underdeliver, as always.
Last season, I was hoping for spurs to do something.
Disappointed once again.
Anyway, anyone up for fantasy.premierleague.com?
We can have a league there.
Any takers?

Tommychrk, it's a fantasy league where you have a squad and score points based on the performance of your players on the pitch.
No money involved.
