Yes IJ...there is a heap of them....plus other countries as well....including the two Japanese horses that ran 1st and 2nd last year.
Both Dylan Thomas & George Washington from Aiden O'Briens stable have been nominated for the Cox Plate WFA 2040m 1st prize approx 900k euro.
Yeats was slaughtered by the hoop last year......cnut on it had a brain freeze.....must of thought he was riding a fcukin motorbike.
Yes Cliff, l saw Marasco's win in WA last week....had the dream rails run, but gapped em pretty quick with 62.5kgs on his back. Good to see Fred Kersley with another good horse.....good trainer IMO and comes across as a genuine nice guy in the media.

I'll be in Patong on MC day and just wondering if is there a certain venue that gets in the spirit of things?
Assuming we can keep the flu under control and we have a cup that is.

Wondering about that - will there be a cup this year? Is it only NSW with the problem or is it countrywide?

How do foreign breeders and trainers feel about bringing their horses to Oz while this is on? Might that also have an effect on the big day?

Yeh DB, there would be a few overseas trainers thinking twice about it. It would be a big call for a trainer to set a UK or Japanese horse for a race that may or may not be on. And even if it is on, they would still have to be a bit nervous about bringing their multi million dollar beasts half way around the world and put them at risk. With only about 6 weeks to go, if things don't improve in the near future, it could well be only horses that are currently in Victoria that will be able to run.

That's what I thought. Still, they can't abandon the race altogether.

Hopefully not. There is still some fairly classy stayers in Vic at the moment so if they can keep the flu out of there it should be all go.

Septimus sure looks like he has the goods. I understand he broke the track record by 3 seconds in his win in the Doncaster Cup.....very impressive.
I wouldn't write of the chances of some of O'brien's other contenders either, or Dermot Weld's for that matter. Scorpion, Bellamy Cay and Yeats could all be a big threat if they come down for it.

only had one bet...and that was on Mahler for a win and place
came out slightly ahead.....I also thought of Efficient (thanks to AD + Mav)when I read back on this thread yesterday.....but had just seen a performance of Mahler's 6th Symphony on the weekend and he was in barrier 6......so I just had to go with it!....
