Was he sacked or did he leave?
José Mourinho dramatically left Chelsea with immediate effect yesterday after a final bust-up with Roman Abramovich. The manager is understood to have contacted five senior players in the afternoon to tell them that he was leaving, without offering any detailed explanation for his sudden departure.

That is sensational news ! Must have had a blazing row with Abramovich about performances recently and 24000 fans on Tuesday evening was poor showing. Secures Shevchenkos place in the team now.
Next up for Chelski is United on Sunday at OT.

I read about a "bust up" in the chelsea board room in january when Mourinho wanted a new striker. Abramovich replied: But you have chevchenko on the bench? To that Mourinho replied: Exactly!!
It is well known that Mourinho never wanted chevchenko so it is not surprising he found his working conditions difficult. Anyway, he was quite entertaining at times but the football he got Chelsea to play was boring boring boring!!!

must admit to liking Mourinho. Can't help it - even when he is whinging more than Wenger he made me laugh, either with him or at him.
Football needs characters and he certainly was one.
Mourinho for England!

Could quite possibly happen just because who he is.......
I sure as hell hope not because it would be another Eurpopean coach playing in the usual defensive manner as Erikson did.
At least the football thats been played under McClaren at the moment is more offensive, however still dont think he's the right man for the job......
I can see a Poll Thread coming up..... those in favour and those not for Mourinho to coach England !

Chelsea sack Mourinho
I can se any reason for the spesial one to choose the England job.
What would it be into it for him?
A bad reputation on the cv,no private life, told by the newspapers and people generally that you are a moron
Must be the money then, but what afther the England job?
He is probably smart enough to play on the safe horses.
Think the argument that England need a new imanager is funny.
No manager so far have success with that team, and see how they are treated.
Its about the players, thats the problem, and put the finger in the ground
and admitt they dont are top world class yet

Will Spurs try to sign Mourinho?
Mourinho for England, that's gonna cost the FA for sure, how much is McClaren earning now?

I bloody well hope not, Jol has done a great job as Spurs' boss, ok they have had a shaky start to say the least but its not his fault 6 first team players have been injured since the beginning of the season, even the best manager in the world wouldn't have made a difference.... once the players are back in the first team and the results still dont come then it will be time to start pointing the finger..... Still wouldn't want Mourinho though i think he's a pompous tw@t !!

You can't blame only 24,000 fans turning up because of Jose. It was the same last season for the tie with Levski Sofia. The problem is people can't afford 50 gbp to watch a team like Rosenborg or Levski. if Chelsea had cut the ticket price to 25 gbp, they would have had a better attendance and probably around the same amount of money.
Also 3 bad results isn't a reason to get rid of a manager. The problems between Jose and Roman have been going on for sometime. This was always inevitable. Besides 3 bad results for what Jose has done for Chelsea? He won 2 championships, 2 carling cups and the FA cup in 3 years. He has done a great job.
I remember going to the Porto game in the champions league group stage a few years ago (we won 3-1 on the night) it was just after Jose took over at Chelsea. I remember hearing the fans sing to the Porto fans:
"we've got your manager, we've got your manager. La la la la la lalala"
It could be changed to:
"We've got no manager, we've got no manager. La la la la la lalala,"
I'll get my coat
Good luck Jose in your next adventure.

I've heard Diddier Deschamps, who did well at Monaco, and Guus Hiddink are in contention for the job.
Wouldn't mind having didi back at Chelsea. Oh and Zola is a legend.

Chelsea's new manager.
Chelsea have confirmed that Avram Grant has replaced Jose Mourinho as the new manager at Stamford Bridge
The Israeli, who was the club's director of football, will take charge alongside Steve Clarke
Grant is a close friend of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and his summer arrival at the club came after opposition from Mourinho.
The Portuguese told Grant not to interfere with team affairs but the Israeli's position was strengthened with a seat on the board.
Where now for the " special 1 " ?

As a Chelsea supporter since 1970 through the good but mainly bad times, I am saddened by Mourinhos departure but not surprised. He was going to leave, but the timing of this right now is bad news for Chelsea.
The new manager doesn't inspire me with any confidence and he has no premiership experience except as somebody hired to help out Harry Redknapp at Portmouth last year.
Will the Chelsea players want to play for him? Like him or not, the players loved Mourinho (except Shevchenko ) and played as much for him as for the club. He will be missed badly.
I didn't particularily like Mourinho as a person, and his ridiculous vendetta with Benitez was childish, but he wasn't there to be loved. He is a winner, and a great coach. Same as Alex Ferguson, I can't stand the guy, but he too is a winner and a great manager.
Avram Grant can only be thought of as a caretaker manager, and it will take a great manager to take Chelsea where they aspire to go. This season I fancy will be a write off now.
It will never happen, but the guy I would love to see manage Chelsea, and who I rate the best in the business is Arsene Wenger. Oh well ,this weekends match is an easy one...........away to Utd

Dawsey, I understand you. I supported Chelsea from the 80's, so yeah, I understand the bad times. Actually, I was speaking to a German guy at work. He is an Eintracht Frankfurt fan and since I live in Frankfurt I have adopted them as my team also. I was tellling him that although the football was lousy back then and when teams like, for example, Cardiff came, you wouldn't be suprised if Chelsea lost. However, the atmosphere was fantastic and the same as what you get in Frankfurt.
I wnet home last year just to watch Chelsea play Levski in the champions league. I remember the atmosphere being dire... I miss the old days.
Back to Mourinho, I liked his arrogance, and you can see that rubbed of on the team. He took a lot of flack, especially in his first season, but protected the team. He was a natural winner and respected by the team.
This new guy won't last the season...

As a Chelsea fan for 35 years, I'm sorry to Mourinho go - but I'm not sure if things were heading in the right direction for the team. The wasn't necessarily Mourinho's fault, but things appeared to be going backwards rather than forwards. The performances were getting worse, not better.
That being said, having stood in the Shed watching mid-week Second Division games with 8-10,000 people in attendence all during the 80s, you'd have to be mad not to be very grateful for what José did. Our first league title in 50 years (and another one to follow), one FA Cup, two League Cups.
And don't forget - when José took over for the first season, most people said 'It takes more than money to win the Premiership. It requires team spirit, smart tactics, getting players to gel. He won't do anything for a couple of seasons.' And then when Chelsea won back-to-back Premiership crowns, the same people said 'He bought the title.'
When he had the 'no stars' policy in the first two seasons, they were unstoppable. As soon as Roman/Kenyon started bussing in big names like Ballack and Shevchenko, it all went pear-shaped.
One thing I do agree with Abramovich on is that as a Chelsea fan, you want to see exciting, attacking football. It's doubtful Mourinho would ever have been that cavalier.
Who next? Hiddink looks like a decent bet for next season. Grant (who has no track record outside of Israel) I reckon will be given this season to (a) accommodate/set up the team for Shev and (b) show he can make attacking, attractive football work.
The moot point is how many players will stick around? I'd suspect that Lamps, Drogba and Terry might just think that this is a good time to cash in and move on.

You can guarantee that Barcelona will be back for Lampard, especially as he hasn't signed a new contract yet. Drogba was a Mourinho favourite, and may well move on. Terry is Chelsea through and through. I'd be surprised to see him leave.

Yep, JT is the finest flower of the legendary Chelsea youth system. Him and Jodie...err...Thingy. Jodie Marsh? He was a bit of a tit anyway.
But according to this report, it was actually a bust-up with John Terry (and Terry's recent performances) that brought all this to a head. This is from www.thesoccerblog.org :
JOSE MOURINHO’S future as Chelsea manager was doomed after a dramatic bust-up with his trusted skipper John Terry. 'The Sun' newspaper says that Mourinho had become increasingly frustrated by Terry’s recent performances. And he had even raised the issue with the club’s medical department to see if they had an explanation.
But when centre-back Terry heard what Mourinho had done he reacted furiously. And the England star had heated exchanges with the Blues boss before and after Tuesday’s dire 1-1 Champions League draw at home to minnows Rosenborg.
A club source revealed: “News of their row reached the club’s directors, who were concerned it was proof that Jose was losing the dressing room.” Incredibly, Chelsea insisted they knew nothing about the shock development and claimed they had no plans to sack him - until suddenly confirming his exit in a statement at 1.45am today. Yesterday’s high drama started when billionaire owner Roman Abramovich cancelled a business trip to hold an emergency summit with Director of Football Avram Grant and trusted director Eugene Tenenbaum.
That was followed by a lengthy meeting between Chelsea’s three main powerbrokers — Tenenbaum, chairman Bruce Buck and chief executive Peter Kenyon.
All three should have gone to last night’s official launch of Chelsea’s new DVD — which, ironically, only Mourinho attended.
The catalyst was undoubtedly Abramovich, still furious after the dismal Euro draw with Rosenborg.
I understand he was demanding to know:
Why is Mourinho’s side playing drab football?
Why are they failing to score goals?
Why did only 24,000 fans bother to watch the match?
A Blues source confirmed: “Roman is seriously p****d off. He’s beginning to think the club is becoming a laughing stock, which is the exact opposite of everything he wants to achieve.”
Rom’s frustration with Mourinho is at an all-time high because he believes that whenever he demands something of the boss and his players, he is let down.
Tellingly, on the eve of the Rosenborg match Kenyon revealed the Russian had a 10-year plan for Chelsea which included them being crowned champions of Europe TWICE. He added: “It’s about winning it in a style, in a manner befitting one of the best clubs in Europe.”
There was precious little style on show against Rosenborg. Yesterday’s talks came two weeks after another meeting, called after the 2-0 defeat at Villa Park.
Mourinho was told performances must improve or he would be held responsible. Before Tuesday’s game he bemoaned the quality of players available to him — comparing his squad to cut-price eggs.

As a United fan, I'm hoping that Chelsea go hard out for Sven. Chelsea and City fcuked in one fell swoop, gee that would be happy days
To be fair, Alex Ferguson always spoke well of the guy and there's no doubt that it was his arrival that really made Chelsea a force. League titles have never been for sale, if they were then United would have won heaps of them in the '70s, it takes a good manager to put a team together and Mourinho was ( is ) a good manager, even if he did say so himself on occasion.

Saw an interview yesterday and he was unusually diplomatic, said all the right things, immediately I thought, Abramovich as owner, big payment, to keep his mouth shut, certain.
