Well the Celts managed to beat AC Milan after all, I thought we were away so I didnt give them much chance out in Italy.
Looks like the night has been spoilt though after a fan ran on the pitch and gave Didi what has been described on the BBC website as nothing more than a "cheeky slap" but apparently the keeper was carried off on a stretcher.
Doesn't look good for Celtic,
Minimum will be a huge fine, Possibly a replay, Matches behind closed doors or even out of Glasgow or even a ban from the comp.

55555555 Yep, a good away win. Liverpool looking pretty sick in 3rd spot with just one point. Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea all top their groups with Celtic and Rangers in 2nd in theirs. A good week in Europe for the Brits

LOOKS pretty bleak for celtic ok that asshole should not have been on the pitch ! (he better find out where lord lucan is hiding because he is in the brown stuff big time) but the disgusting antics of the goalkeeper were an absolute disgrace he went down as if shot by a snipers bullet he should be severely punished by eufa his antics could have caused serious crowd trouble !
when you look at the history of how eufa deal with things with this when it involves a team from one of the big leagues or eastern europe they usualy are soft with the punishment (look at how they ignore the racist chanting by teams from eastern europe) but they usualy slaughter teams from countries with no power to fight them back
i remember years ago a plastic bottle was thrown on the pitch in a game CELTIC V RAPID VIENA(CUP WINNERS CUP) Celtic won 3 -0 but were ordered to replay the game at old trafford manchester and lost 1-0 rapid went on to the final that year against EVERTON.
TO BE FAIR milan are not pushing for anything to happen after the game ancelotti and a club official both said that milan were not complaining about the incident and that they were beaten fair and square

That is one thing you would never see in a RWC match. If a player reacted like that he would be laughed off the pitch for being a big girls blouse.
Dida was a disgrace.

Not really Tommy. Benitez is doing his level best to screw Liverpool up with his crazy rotation system. They were so fortunate the ref last week v Everton was a Liverpool supporter.
After the start they made to the premiership, I thought maybe this was their time to win the title again. Not a chance now. Its Arsenal and Utd all the way IMO.
Yes, they are almost certainly out of the Champions league after tonight.

Besides the performance of the teams, I was again especially struck by the performance of the referees.
I know it is a dog's job and you hardly can do a good job, but I fear the level of referees is going down month after month. You hardly see any good refs anymore.
For example, I always liked Pier-Luigi Colina. Of course he made mistakes too, but never in a way a game was too much influenced by it.
I notice it especially with British refs. When we see Premier League games here on tv, one often note the way these refs let the play flow. But as soon, as they cross the North Sea, they have a complete different way of leading the game.
A good example was the ref who was in charge of PSV-Fenerbache on Tuesday. It looked like a field hockey game. No flow in the game. A Turkish player was sent off for nothing more than a "yellow card foul", a Dutch player could stay on, where he deserved a deep red card and more examples like that.
Also I believe in competitions like the World Cup, Euro Cup and Champions League is it really time that they start with viseo judges like in Ice Hockey or the Rugby.
What do you guys think of that?

I'm a big supporter of the idea of video tech in football though I think the whole player/referee culture needs to change also. In rugby the refs don't take any shit but very little is given by the players. When you look at what goes on in football by comparison it seems crazy.
Apart fom the obvious (diving, silly yellow cards, etc) another thing I hate about the refereeing in Europe is how much protection goalies get during corners. It seems like every time they come out to punch it and make an ar$e of it the ref will give an instant free kick in their favour.

Yes, Brit you're right. Rugby is not really popular here in Holland. We only see som game highlights of the 6 nations games and the worldcup finals was broadcasted live on TV here. I don't really know the rules, but I was pleasantly surprised how well the players behaved towards the ref despite controversial decisions.
Also your remark makes a lot of sence. Same as the"unwritten rule" that the ref usually gives the advantage to the defending team. Hence they kill the game.
Last but not least, it is time football will use real playing time like in ice hockey and other sports.

I watched maybe the dullest game ever in the history of European football last nigh, Slavia Praha - Arsenal 0 - 0. On a cold rainy night Arsenal created one (1) effort on goal and that was in the 85 minute! But wtf, were through, havent lost a match since April and are top of the premiership

I felt for a long time that video replays could be used to assist the refs in certain situations: questionable offsides, balls over the line or not.
My only reservation would be that the rules of the game would have to be very clear-cut. I understand that a player can be sent off rather than booked for "intent" if he commits a foul........how would a video replay assist the ref in judging a players intentions??

They could start with using the video referee for situations like goal/no goal or if a player is fouled just inside or outside the penalty area and shoul get a penalty. These are key factors in a game. You shouldn't use the video for every questionable little foul.
Look for example last night when Sporting Portugal was denied a goal, despite the ball was about half a meter over the goal line.

Marseille 0-3 Liverpool (1945)
Group B
Chelsea 0-0 Valencia (1945)
Schalke 04 3-1 Rosenborg (1945)
Group C
Olympiakos 1-0 Werder Bremen (1945)

Its amazing to have 4 english and 1 scottish league teams in the last 16. Just hope one of them gets up.
My particular favourite would be Celtic, shades of Lisbon 1967. Only because they must be complete underdog as they were then.
Much more difficult now, but, then again........

You know, I think the idea of teams failing in the CL dropping into the UEFA cup is a really sh1t one. The teams that are in it at this stage have come through groups that involved long hard trips to the a*se end of 'europe' and have earned their place in the draw. Having the likes of Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich parachuted in at this stage must be aggravating.

Totally agree. If you are not with the first 2 in your group, then it is bad luck for you and you are eliminated.
Actually, I think the whole set up of the Champions League sucks. I don't think it is good that some countries can enter 3 or 4 teams. Moreover, the new plans of Platini also favour the big (read: rich) football nations again.
It proves to me it has all to do with money and not with football capacities.
It is OK to have teams enlisted according to the UEFA ranking of nations. E.g. the first 8 teams. Also the CL winner of the previous season should be qualified automatically.
The first 8 or 10 countries on the list should be able to enter a 2nd team. How these countries it is up to the local FA. In Holland we have play offs for this, but you could also consider the Cup winner or the number 2 in the league.
The remaining teams the can qualify as they do it now, with pre-qualifying rounds to come to a total of 32 teams in the group phase.
But the present system only favours the big rich footbal nations like Spain, Italy and England. And that is bad news and makes the CL very predictable as far as from which country the winner will come.

I think Chelsea and Utd will be very please with that draw.
As for the two other English sides, im not to sure. Looks like they will be playing each other 3 times over a week nearly. I think Liverpool will agree to lose the prem matches if they go through in Europe.......
I think it will be a Liverpool v Man U final.
