World Cup 2010 Qualifying Draw
The draw was made today for the qualifying matches for the next football World Cup to be held in SA in 2010. Here are the European teams groups.
EUROPE DRAW
Group 1 Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Albania, Malta
Group 2 Greece, Israel, Switzerland, Moldova, Latvia, Luxembourg
Group 3 Czech Republic, Poland, NORTHERN IRELAND, Slovakia, Slovenia, San Marino
Group 4 Germany, Russia, Finland, WALES, Azerbaijan, Liechtenstein
Group 5 Spain, Turkey, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Armenia, Estonia
Group 6 Croatia, ENGLAND, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Andorra
Group 7 France, Romania, Serbia, Lithuania, Austria, Faroe Islands
Group 8 Italy, Bulgaria, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus, Georgia, Montenegro
Group 9 Holland, SCOTLAND, Norway, FYR Macedonia, Iceland
Wales again unlucky with the draw. England won't be too unhappy vying with Ukraine and Croatia to qualify. I assume as usual its the top two teams from each group to go into the draw.

I think that the news reported that only the country at the top of the table was GUARANTEED to go through.

Is this the WC where England maybe turns up without any real tournament practice?
Any particular reason why some of the teams are listed in uppercase on a Thailand forum?
...phew, so many questions today 5555

From the BBC.
Quote:
The winners of each European group will qualify for the finals automatically and the best eight runners-up play off for four more qualifying berths.

Considering we got relegated to 2nd seed that draw is unbelievably good. I mean really if you were going to pick it yourself it wouldn't be far off.

A nice group for us for a change. with Norway, Scotland, Iceland and Macedonia. It has possibilities.
We will see if the Dutch can change their attitude and work with passion and not only rely on their superior skills, because if they do that, they will have a hard time for sure.

Anyone looked at Australia's draw? From the Sydney Morning Herald:
Quote:
Australia were slotted alongside Asian Cup champions Iraq, the ever-dangerous China, and potentially hazardous Qatar, in group one during the draw in Durban, South Africa, today.
It is without doubt the toughest of the five Asian groups, with all four teams ranked in the region's top 10.
Also seeded were South Korea, Iran, Japan and Saudi Arabia.
In the other groups, Japan were drawn with Bahrain, Oman and Thailand in group two.
South Korea will meet neighbours North Korea, as well as Jordan and Turkmenistan in group three.
Group four includes Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Lebanon and Singapore.
While Iran were placed alongside Kuwait, Syria and the United Arab Emirates in group five.

Dosen't matter whether the group is easy or hard the only way to qualify is to beat the other teams in the group or at least get more points than they get. Simple theory hard to put into practice. All the european groups are hard.
From an Australian perspective if they don't qualify from their group they are hopeless and don't deserve a place in the finals as no team in their group would be good enough to qualify from a european group.

Italy of course are favourites to qualify but Ireland will have to play their heart out to do likewise. Perhaps its time for them to name a new manager.

Ireland fighting with Cyprus??? Are you kidding?
The Irish should be able to beat them at least once and get a minimum of 4 points against Cyprus....

I AM VERY confident of at least 2nd place in our group holland are not so good at this moment in time so it is possible to finish above them not worrying too much about norway but thats not to say i rule them out of it .

NO DREAMING ABOUT IT JONNY 555555
scotland are a side on the up a rise of nearly 40 places in the eufa rankings list in the last 18 months they have just narrowly been edged out of euro 2008 by the world cup winners and runners up we have about 3/4 really good class young players ready to come into the squad in the next year or so
so why should we not feel confident the berti vogts days are long behind us as regards HOLLAND i keep up to date with the eredeviise there are live games on uk tv every week on channel 5 they simply dont have the really world class players they usued to have especially in the midfield areas still have some good forwards but apart from van der vart nothing in the midfield area in defence i think they are also week no class full backs and ordinary centre backs bhoularooz/matijsen/
basically in the 2 games between us i am supremely confident about us winning the game in glasgow the game in holland could go either way but i would right now be confident of a draw there.
but heh after the sh it draw we got for the euro 2008 qualifying we would be delighted with anything !
the facts speak for themselves not many teams come to hampden and go away with a win in a competitive match (even in bertis days) unless they get help from the referree that is 55555 (ask allan hutton about that)
