Yes looking forward to the start. I think the SA teams will keep on improving so they will be the ones to watch.

Yes Jonny we hope they will do well and building from last year there's no reason why they shouldn't perform at a high standard.
Interestingly I believe there are a lot of Kiwi's currently playing in Europe who won't be playing in Super14 and the Aussie's were looking a bit thin last year.............but no doubt they'll be itching to get at us......

I think that The Sharks will be the main contenders amongst the SA teams this year.
The new laws being trailed in the S14 will not suit The Bulls, last seasons champs. plus the fact that they have lost a lot of players in the off season.
I will hold judgment on my team The Stormers until they have played their first three games. But I am as they say cautiously optimistic.
Of the NZ and Aus teams, my money would be on The Huricanes, the new laws will suit their great backline and running rugby, Crusaders and The Force...

yeah....agree....the new laws will have a big impact this year
hopefully we will see a more open game and more running rugby....more emphasis on the backs and loosies and the tight 5 will need to be more athletic
I see teams with big fast loosies and good running backs as the ones to watch.....and agree with Rete's choices above + the Waratah's

The Super 14 is just hours away from starting.
The feeling is that it is going to be the most open competition in years.
With the number of players that either retired or in most cases moved on to play in Europe after the WC. The new faces and youngsters coming thru.
But mostly the ELV’s . The new laws should open the game up, it will be interesting to see which teams adapt to them the best and how the refs apply them .
The hardest game to call this weekend could be the Warathas vs the Hurricanes.
So, lets sit back and enjoy…

I'll be there at the game....as I almost said in an above post Rete!
I am thinking Hurricanes as I went to see them train briefly the other day and they looked fit and raring to go.....I have a mate/neighbour/client in the team and was dropping some drawings to him on the way past (honest...I'm not that fanatical as to go to practice sessions)
Hurricanes by 10+ despite it being an away game

Canes to Win
Im also backing the "Canes", I watched the Crusaders vs the Tahs in the warmup games. Carter was all over Kurtley Beale leaving him flat footed several times. With the new laws in place especially the backline having to stand 5m back from the scrum I expect the "willy old fox" Jimmy Gopperth to also stand up Beale as well, plus with Nonu, Smith, and Tamati Ellison in the backline expect some hard and straight running up the middle.....

I will be shouting for the Canes as well as I have always enjoyed their brand of rugby.
I was watching Re-Union last night and the bit about the new laws were interesting, the game will speed up tremendously and I sure that they will teams like the Canes

Raining in Christchurch which has slowed the game down a bit, but first impressions are these new rules have definitely sped the game up immensely. I look forward to the games on hard and dry pitches and we will see tries galore.
The 5m rule on scrums on attacking plays wlll see some great plays...
Shame our UK Friends do not want to "follow" the new rules.....but so far the 6 nation games I have seen so far they couldnt handle the pace of the game under the new rules....
Crusaders 10...Brumbies 3...Half time.
Back to the "corporate box".....yes its a freebie.........

Thanks for the update, sitting at work but following on the net.
It does seem that these new laws are going to radicaly change the pace of the game.
Looking forward to the rest of the weekend and then we should have a better idea.

Still early days and there is a lot of first game rustiness on display, but the game is defiantly being played at a faster pace.
The Blues showed it in their win. The Force were a tad unlucky last night and will improve once they get their finishing right, and The Saders certainly look like they have a good grasp of how to use the laws to maximum effect...

Just watched a replay of Canes V Tahs....Seemed to me, that the Canes had no gameplan..running around like headless chooks. Tahs deserved the win, but didn't show anything convinceing.....
