The richest football clubs in the world

A real interesting read from Deloitte:
Football: Big three in the get-richer club | News | guardian.co.uk Football

Seems to be a heavy domination by the English Premierleague with more dominance to follow. This is from the top ingress:

Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have established themselves in the world top five of highest-earning clubs, according to a new report. They made £580m between them last season and Deloitte, the business consultancy which compiles the Football Money League, believes their revenues will only increase as English clubs as a whole seek to maximise their money-making potential abroad.

I assume if Delotte made the same list from the clubs assets then Real Madrid would come much further down as they do not own their own stadium. They dont really own anything do they??

is there no salary cap in football?

in 3 of the 4 sports in states, they only have a certain amount they can spend on a team each year
baseball, a team can spend anything but over a certain limit has to pay a luxury tax, that is dollar-for-dollar and gets dispursed to all teams that didnt go over the luxury tax threshold

I totally agree with that, beeing spanish I follow closely spanish football.
A few years ago they even sold their old training facilities (several football fields) that were not even belonging to them and they used the money to pay debts. An absolute shame

There used to be a cap in English football, until Jimmy Hill and others fought to remove it. Made the owners a fortune and gave most players little (good and bad points to this. But for the 'right' player there were ways around the rules. Just like there is now, including American sports!)

Now it has gone to the other extreme. All the money going out of the game to the players and there silly 'WAGS', horse acing and golf clubs!

Back then in the 50's, my dad turned down a contract with Swansea or Cardiff and a couple of high profile clubs due to the money being offered. (I say he, but I mean his Mother! My father never found out about this until after he married my mother, 10-12 years later.)

actually, except for baseball, there is pretty hard caps
the one exception is in basketball a team can sign their own player for a little more than other teams, which i think is fair
american football actually has a pretty hard salary cap and their contracts are not guaranteed

Maybe but aint they other 'incentives' offered on the side?

I know for a fact that a friend of mine got a scholarship to a large University to play football, in the south east of the states. The reason he and his family choose that particular Uni, was not down to the courses offered along with the team. But other 'perks' that they offered, which exceded similar inducements from other colleges.

Im sure if it happens so easily at Uni level, than in professinal sport, they must be at least a notion of this too.

oh, i thought you were talking strictly professional
as far as college scholarships go, a lot of athletes go based on facilites and feel for the school
back in the 80's, there were a lot of side deals with boosters(rich alumni, businessmen) giving the star recruits and palyers cash, cars on the side
schools got in loads of trouble, some programs banished, so you dont see that as much
