Leauge importance?
so being a ratehr newbie to football, i still cant my head around the different leauges and the rank of importance
what one is the most important to fans?
as new Arsenal fan for the last year id rather see them win the Premier Leauge than the Champions Leauge
you are playing more rivals and such
am i wrong, is the Champions Leaugue a bigger accomplishment?

Some of the Premier League clubs are real battlers and are only there to make up the numbers and support the promotion and relegation system. The top of the EPL has a familiar look about it most years. The Champions League is littered with some of the greatest teams in Europe and a title there will live in the supporters memories for years to come. It's a bit like playing outside your own fishbowl. Definately superior for me.

Being a Man Utd fan it is always great to win the premier league, the league afterall is the bread and butter. However, seeing UTD win the champions league in '99' was my greatest moment whilst watching football....

I would say for any country, their national title (league) is the most important season on season. BUT you are never really considered a 'Great' club, manager, player unless you have the European Cup (Champoins league).
Although from a pure money aspect, THe Champions league is worth more to win than the premier league in prize money terms.
But then each's worth is down to individual supporters or club boards!

I would rate the Premier League as most important. I dont care if they win the Champs League or not, cause some of the winners have not won the National League for years.

Yeah, this season is interesting. If Arsenal dont drop games, then they have big big chance.

i guess one good thing for me is i dotn get every game in Vancouver but we get a decent amount over the week
so i sort of forced to watch everyone instead of just watching Arsenal games
there are a few very active football supporters at work so we watch a lot of games at work because of the time difference

Same same in KL, we only get games that ESPNStar decide to broadcast, others are shown as highlights.

there is a channel in canada called The Score. by far, the most comprehensive sports coverage of world wide sports of any channel i ever came about
they carry a lot of games, plus Setana, and Rogers also, so i get plenty
The Score also has a show called The Footy Show, which is all highlights and news from world of football. i cant tell if it is produced here with people from UK or it is a UK show

Paul, the European Cup is more valued for any European Team than their domestic league, simply because you are pitting yourself up against the best teams from all other european countries, rather than the best just from your own.
To get into the European Cup the teams have to have won or come top of their domestic league, or for some countries won their national cup competition. A lot of domestic leagues are very weak in comparison to the EPL, but even then we only have 4 top teams and say another 4 what stand any chance of winning the domestic league, whereas in the European Cup a large number of teams stand that same chance.
The best footballers in the world, will usually pick the teams that will be able to give them European honours and not just domestic ones, so my conclusion is European Cup most valued.

What is Setana and Rogers?
All the football shows we get are from Singapore Pundits working for ESPNStar with some LIVE Feed from UK on Matchdays.
We hardly get American Games, once a while some Football, Indy Racing, and those Cricket and Rugby tournaments, Boxing Matches are pay per view, got to buy them. !@#$%^&*()

its debatable which is held in highest regard.
Liverpool have won the CL recently and got to another final and yet their poor performance in the league leaves their fans frustrated with Rafa Benitez.
I would say for the top teams that the CL is a rarer thing to win so is therefore more coveted in the grand scheme of things. But the Domestic league takes more effort over a longer period (mathematically you can win the CL by winning only 6 games) but those games are against Europes best teams.

Nope not mixed at all, you have one guy Nautilus saying the domestic league, but he is not considering any other league than the EPL, you have a mass of Brits saying the European Cup, cos we are considering all other European leagues.
20 odd clubs in the EPL, 4 top teams will win the league most years, Holland only 2/3 contenders for the title, Spain 3/4 and so on. Bottom dozen clubs in the domestic leagues are walk overs for the top teams. European Cup, you have 10 top teams and still many more exceedingly good ones, ones that have won their respective league or major cup to gain entry, so almost every match is a toughee. Maybe less games but each one of much higher quality opposition.
So conclusion, more games to win your domestic league but much harder and therefore more coveted to win the European Cup.

Hobbsy, who i know is a big supporter just suggested the same thing, didnt he?
again, i am just trying to figure it out
like i said, and obviously wrong, i thought more weight would be put into say Liverpool beating Chelsea in the EPL than beating Milan in CL
im just learning

Most important.....
Interesting question after last weekend's FA cup matches
Whilst steeped in history this competition has become "less" important for some of the UK's more famous teams. It was obvious from the Man United v Arsenal game that Arsenal weren't at the races and the effect of the 4 -0 defeat in momentum for the rest of the season in ALL competitions will be interesting to see over the next few weeks.
Winning builds momentum and I suspect after a 4-o win last weekend Man United would love another go at Arsenal this week.
Marc you may be better off looking at Nottingham Forest rather than Arsenal if your looking for a team with a European competition success rate!!

There was a time that the only way to actually get to play in the Champions league which was then called the European Cup was that you had to win your own domestic league first to qualify.
Then the prestige was that you were champions of your own country and then champions of Europe.
Now upto 4 teams from each country can play in it so the prestige is not so great.

European Cup Winners
a brief history of winners of the top european cup competition which I thought may be on interest...
my comment regarding Nottingham Forest rather than Arsenal was based on the fact that Forest have a history of success and Arsenal have yet to play in the Euro Cup or Champions leauge final...hope it didn't cause offence
regards
dave
