your favorite sports team

this may have a little different meaning for the US guys and European guys.

in the states, most major cities have 4 major sports with teams, basketabll, baseabll, football and hockey. so choosign which one you like best out of the 4 is like choosing which kid you like the best

although i love all the teams and had the pleasure of living 10 minutes from Boston Garden and Fenway Park, so ive been going to games since i could talk
even one year going to about 50 out of 81 red sox home games

i would say my 1st love is the Boston Red Sox. they are just so ingrained in Boston it is like part of our culture. i rememeber when i got to NYC in 1993 and the New York Yankess sucked, you never heard a word about them. in Bosotn, the Sox could be 30 games out of 1st place and all you hear all day is people asking what the score is
also, Fenway Park is one of the most magical sports venues i have ever been in and the surrounding area is so much fun before games

id love to hear other people's views

My favorite sports teams are:
  1. Dutch National Footbal Team
  2. Ajax Amsterdam
  3. Montreal Canadiens

Being a football fan, the first two are obvious I suppose. I started to follow football with closer attention in the mid 60-ies. At that time a game on tv was a rarity here and I saw an Ajax -Feijenoord game with a 16-year old Johan Cruijff. He was awesome already at that age. No wonder he develloped into one of the best 3 players the world ever saw (with Pele and Maradona).
Since that day I am an Ajax fan and when time allows me I like to go to the Arena.

Also I like Ice hockey. When my dad was still alive, we used to go to the local team once in a while. Ice hockey is not a big sport here at all. Late I saw the old Soviet team demolishing the Dutch with 1-17 in a demo game in The Hague. At that time they had al their stars like Michailov, Charlamov, Petrov and Tretjak.

I listed the Montreal Canadiens, because while working in Montreal Canada some 15 years ago, I was lucky enough to be able to watch a number of games in the Montreal Forum. Later I also saw some games in the Bell Center.

If I had to chose just one team it would have to be The All Blacks.
They had a bad World Cup last year but there are times when they are able to take rugby to another level and produce a game that is sheer poetry in motion.

that's an easy one : kv mechelen (soccer team in belgium)

it's been an average team for most of his history, some years in the belgian premier league, than some years in the league just below, and so on...
In the period 1988-1991 we were on an all time high : belgian cup winner, euro cup 2 winner, european supercup winner, belgian champion. After that it went from bad to worse due to crappy management. In 2003 the club went bankrupt but was saved by her own fans thanks to numerous fund raising initiatives.
We were relagated to division 3 due to the bankruptcy, but since this season we're back again in the big league and surviving good (in the middle of the ranking table).

Sorry if i bore you all, but when i can talk about my team i get a bit emotional.
Did I mention we got voted as best supporters in Belgium this year? Well now i did

Used to be able to walk to Jubilee from my place. Was there the day they played Souths in '75 and they had let too many people in and they pushed all the kids onto the pitch surrounds. Great team, great history.

Totally agree! And they actually still hold the world record for any first class team in any sport with regards the most consecutive premierships wins in a row. 11 to be exact.
