Torres...........

The following is an extract from Fernando Torres upcoming autobiography.

"Flying into Manchester airport for the signing was one of the most
exciting days of my career. The limo transferring me took a while longer to
reach the ground than I expected but once there I was greeted by a sea of
red. The chanting and atmosphere were brilliant and it all passed by in a
blur.

Once inside the ground I was greeted by the manager, the first time we had
met face to face. He was a lot heavier than I expected but spoke to me in
good Spanish which made me feel most welcome. We went straight into a
conference room for the official signing.

After I had put pen to paper the manager turned to me and said "Welcome to
the biggest club in the World".

I said thank you and asked "When will I meet Wayne and Cristiano"?

There followed about ten minutes of confusion from which it transpired that
there are two clubs in the North West of England known as the "Reds" and my
idiot agent had got them mixed up.

However I had signed so had to get on with it. Benitez was known as the
"Gaffer". I asked Stevie G (the only other player at the club who could
control the ball) why this was.

He explained that in English "gaffe" is an embarrassing mistake.Apparently
even the owners called Rafa "gaffer".

All I can do now is play really well and hope that Real, Barca or possibly
Barnsley come and save me from my nightmare.

Some days after training I drive from Liverpool to Manchester and sit
outside Old Trafford and dream of what might have been. I can sit there for
hours.

Then Stevie will nudge me and say "Come on Nando, we have to go back".

We drive silently back to the gaffer.

Taken from "How did I get here?" by Fernando Torres.

Be scared, very scared. As Torres is going to get you..........

But on a seroius note, I bet Fergie went mental when Liverpool signed his 4 yearly summer target. If only he wern't a grumpy old, gin soaked Scottish bastard hey! Then he might of stood a chance of signing him. But lucky he has CArlos as his player finder.......

Utd should have signed him, i think Fergie made a big mistake in not doing so, was watching some programme about Utd on channel M last week and Andy Mitten, who is the head of the Utd supporters club was saying something about utd watching Torres 100 times and in the end didnt sign him because they didnt think the runs he made would fit into utd's style of play.......what a load of shite .......

Maybe we will sign him this summer.....55555

Sounds like a bad excuse to me. 555555

From what I read from Torres. Its simply that he didn't like "the set-up" at Old Trafford. That phrase could mean a thousand things, but certainly Utd tried to sign him at every opportunity. HE just didn't want to sign for them.

I think Utd will go for either Huntleer at Ajax (??) or maybe someone suprising like Owen. I think Barbetov will end up at Chelsea as a replacement for Drogba.

Think he has been found out now..... Not the same player as he was even 2 years ago. I only think he plays well when everything goes through him, for him, and thats certainly not going to happen at Utd.

Torres for sale!

"WILL POOL HAVE TO SELL TORRES?
If the endless sniping and carping at Anfield wasn't enough, Liverpool fans might want to leave The Times well alone this morning.

They claim that the club may have to sell Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel if they can't pay back the £31.5million loan taken out to buy them last summer.

The paper reports (and we apologise for the upcoming financial nonsense): 'Liverpool entered into an 18-month loan agreement with interest of 9 per cent - £2.8 million a year - with a letter of credit to pay back the £31.5 million at the end of the period.

'Should Liverpool be unable to pay back or refinance the loan, banks could force the sale of Torres and Babel, who was also included in the smaller refinancing package.'

Interesting stuff."

Sounds like a story 'leaked' to create uncertainty before a big game. I can smell Peter Kenyon all over it.

Not much chance of them being sold as there are already enough players being sold this summer to raise somewhere near that figure anyway.

What does Peter Kenyon have to do with the story Simon?

From what I gather, he is well known for creating storys just before his side plays them from his Manu and now Chelsea. It happens all the time, although there prob is some truth to the story. Normally he 'hints' about Chelsea transfer targets, but it looks to me like one of his games, from reading the article the other day.

The way the deal reads to me is that it's like a mortgage over Torres & Babel. Sure they can repay the loan by selling other players, but supposing no-one wanted to pay 20million quid for Peter Crouch (just for arguments sake), wouldn't that mean that the bank or financing institution could force the sale of Torres & Babel to satisfy their financials?

Spanish reports claim that Liverpool have rejected a huge bid from Chelsea for Fernando Torres.

Radio Marca report that Roman Abramovich lodged a cheeky 50million euros (£40million) offer for Torres - who has shone on his debut season in England.

Liverpool are believed to have rejected the offer out of hand and did not discuss any possible deal as they have no intention whatsoever of selling the Spanish striker.

It is also claimed that Avram Grant tried to use his friendship with Liverpool's Yossi Benayoun to make it known to Torres, Chelsea's admiration.

However, Torres - who is readying himself to play a pivotal role for Spain at Euro 2008, is more than happy with life at Anfield and has no intentions of quitting less than 12 months into his Liverpool career.

From skysports.com this morning!

If there was any fianinacial pressure, I think the offer would have been disccussed!
