Champions League
Surprised I'm the first, but great game tonight. An absolute credit to the EPL. Tough on John Terry, and Lampard obviously, but fair play to United ; I think they earned it over the season (just)

And just one thought.
The only team that any English team has lost to in this seasons CL is another English team. Arsenal lost to Chelsea (I think), Liverpool lost to Chelsea and United won tonight.
English clubs have been in a different league this season, it's a shame one of them had to lose in the end.

A close and real good game.
How big damage Drogba did for Chelski we will never know, but i assume he would be one of the penalty takers
Only thing i dont like with pens afther 90 minutes plus, is that we just sit and wait for the big scapegoat from one of the teams.
And its often someone who dont deserve it who get the blame

All these years later and penalties is still the option to decide.
Yes...very unfortunate for Terry...had to be someone l guess.
l too enjoyed the close game, where both teams had good periods.....just very happy United came through....maybe it was meant to be 50 years on from Munich !
Good result also as reports have it that the travelling fans behaved themselves (Hope l have not spoken too soon)

I didn't see that game, but woke up this morning to find that my small investment on 1-1 had paid dividends, woohoo !! I didn't mind who won as long as I did

Well done Man Utd deserved winners on the night and all they've achieved all season....
Remember its "teams" that win trophies NOT individuals, too many big shots and conflicting ego's at Chelsea right now....
Chelsea fans when you've stopped crying answer me this....
Why the fcuk was JT taking a penalty in the first place as he's certainly not known for his spot kick prowess....
If he had to take a penalty why be the 5th taker when usually its the match winning kick so leave it to an experienced taker who could have handled the pressure......can't help feel he wanted to be the person who would ruin Utd's night ?????
As a neutral i was worried it may be a very tactical boring game but so was not the case. A great example of how the game should be played and a credit to the BPL, even Andy Gray was lost for words and thats gotta be a first !!!!

Masterwoodsman, in answer to your question, the prick that should have been taking it got himself sent off 4mins from time, so I would imagine that JT (as captain) put himself up for it.
He sent the keeper the wrong way but hit the post with his shot. That was the 3rd time since half time that Chelsea were denied by the woodwork. Other than Anelka it was down to drawing short straws on who took the rest of them. If it was not JT it could have been anyone.
Avram Grant made a very good substitution to bring on Belettie just before the end as he was a seasond penalty taker and showed it when he took his shot.
Just another point, when Chelsea went to collect their medals Drogba was not with the team then or on the pitch after the game. Was this due to the fact that he had been sent off, that he was not able to take part in the medal ceremony.
I know that you are not allowed to sit on the bench after you are sent off, but am not sure whether the law extends to the medal presentation.
Only other thing I can think of is that Roman already had him packed of to Siberia for a spot of hard labour and time to reflect on his actions.

That is a good question Greenwood..... if that is the ruling and you cannot re-enter the field of play to collect medal due to being sent off it seems a bit harsh..... however knowing what Drogbha is like he was probably sulking like a little girl as he didn't get his own way again!!!
I agree the Beletti swap at the end was tactically sound due to circumstances but i just dont understand why JT would take the 5th and usually critical spot kick when there was Lampard, Ballack or Beletti who are spot kick stalwarts
As i said before Chelsea lost the game through picking the wrong order

MWD, the penalty takers pick themselves, its the guys that step up and offer to take them. I managed a small team and was told by an experienced manager, always let the player pick himself for penalty taking, not decide by who is the better penalty taker .

Agree totally Dodge that the spot kick takers should nominate themselves rather than be picked, and fair play to JT for taking that responsibility. However the manager or coaches should have some tactical say so on the order, as to me its so important as last night proved. IMHO JT should have been taking the 2nd or 3rd but whats done is done....

John Terry is an ass in my book, night club fights, ridiculing Americans in a Heathrow hotel with his Chelsea bum boys on the night of 9-11.
His tears had me chuckling.
I hate him more than i hate Chelsea as a team, and I REALLY F*CK*NG HATE CHELSEA.

Lampard, Ballack or Beletti had already scored so could not take them again. Joe Cole had already been substituted, so he was not available. So as I said before really of the players that were left, the order was probably correct. penalties can only be taken by the 11 remaining players on the pitch at the end of extra time. Also just read in the UK press that Drogbar was supposed to be the No5 penalty taker, so that was why JT stepped up as No5.
I remember Stuart Peace missing an important penalty for England in Euro96 (I think), but next game when penalties were needed, he was the 1st one to step up and take the penalty and scored.
Would not suprise to see JT do the same thing next time. Both very similar attitudes as players who lead from the front and by example. Had it not been for JT's last minute intervention with Gigg's shot the game would not have made extra time.
And as for Schmeen what a F*CK*NG idiot you really are. If you have nothing constructive to contribute, go play with the traffic

MWD I understand what you are saying but if he misses the 3rd kick or the 5th kick it is still the same end result at the end of 5 pens each, it still goes to sudden death.
In the end it is still a bad way for such a great game to finish, but until someone can come up with a better idea we will be stuck with it. Other things have been tried, but always they come back to penalties.

You obviously know me 555555555
presumably you condone the sort of crap that Terry has done in the past?
Or is he a special case because he is a wonderful darling EPL player?
It's a game, he lost and some of us enjoy seeing him lose.
The fact that chelsea may have caused their own downfall by their pathetic behaviour when Drogba was sent off is all the funnier.

Van der Sar... van der Sar... van der Sar...!!!!!
I am happy to see Man Utd. win. They are the better side.
Also typical that both teams suffered from the pitch on decicive moments. Van der Sar slipped with Chelsea's goal, otherwise he would have stopped the shot. And Terry slipped when taking the penalty.
I was sorry for Terry as he really leads his team and I guess he suffered from Drogba's stupidity.

Pretty much in line with his previous classy acts...
Charged with ABH and affray 2002
Fined two weeks wages by Chelsea after drunkenly harassing grieving American tourists in the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
Yep, John is the Best of British.

Was a brilliant game that I was lucky enough to see. Footy is so popular here that I got a confused answer when I asked if they were going to show the Champions League final. I had to choose a pub close to the office since it was on during different hours then usual. It was an exciting game with all of the near misses by Chelski. Shame about Drogba being sent off but he was acting the arsse anyhow. Great result today for the Reds!!!!
P.S. Mav, thanks for the optimistic texts. 55555
