McCaw 50/50 but Mortlock out (Backies Botha gave him a decent headache last week)....so both captain's may not play

If McCaw in and fit I think AB's...otherwise they are looking at playing Braid who hasn't played (execpt for a couple of club games) since Auckland Blues last match in Super 14 and he will be no match for the Smith/Waugh demolition duo....seems crazy to me to have Phil Waugh on the bench...he's just too good to sit there for 85 minutes...but wher edo you play him???

should be a prety even match allround but Wobs will miss Mortlock....its a pretty inexperienced backline without him and he is a real impact player who breaks the line most times he gets the ball in a good position.....carried 3 Boks over the line for a try last week IIRC

That is our Bakies for you, not since Martin Johnson has a player managed to do so much damage without getting caught...

Not my favourite by a long shot.

yep...there's a nasty subtext of "rotation" in there....but that word has been banned by the AB coaching team since the last RWC...555

oh and on Bakies.....sooner be with him than again' him....was a cheap shot to the head on a falling and already tackled Mortlock....but possibly within the rules (apart from hiting the back of the head 555)....was potentially far more damaging to the undefended player than either the one on Smit (he was landed on his back) or the Bismark facial.....sometimes so called "legal" tackles can be far more damaging than the illegal ones in Rugby

Bakkies is pretty good at cheap shots, and even better at disguising them....

I read an article recently stating that collectively the scrumhalf play in the
Tri Nations is not up to the standard. I think that I would tend to agree. Januarie has been the best but was woeful against Aussie, Ellis has not impressed me and Burgess was not so flash against SA, but it was his first Tri Nations outing, so let's see this weekend....

well scrums and rucks have been pretty hotly contested and not a lot of clean ball provided for the HB's...in fact I really hate the way the opposing halfback can just sit on the #8 at the scrum and wrap him up as soon as he leans down to pick up the ball....saw Palu actually starting to throw grid iron style straight back between his legs to Burgess last week to counter this....that seemed to work

also breakaways are leaping out of the boxes, there's been plenty of "lucky" footwork from offside players and guys walking straight through rucks....sometimes in off the side with and without penalty....a lot of that is down to ref's interpretation and how many penalties he's given...

its been a tough job for a HB in this series and IMHO the paltform layers (forwards) should be taking much of the blame for it...Heck.....januarie should be cast in gold back at yours....what an effort in Dunedin!!!!

Loads of merit in what you say. that and the fact that some true greats have left the game of late leaving some huge (For Scrummies) boots to fill.....

Nearly half time...if the Wallabies can't win with this inept AB performance, then they aren't contenders. All Blacks should improve when they decide to turn up.

Ahh, more winning bets to collect to finance my next trip to LoS. Mmmm, maybe I should keep some money in reserve for next Sat. I've got a few tables booked at the Lord Nelson next Sat if anyone wants to join. Just PM me to assure a spot. Most viewers will be Kiwis I think. Not ideal I know but what can I do???

From what I have read on some other rugby related sites of late. Quite a few Kiwi's will be supporting Australia. Anything that it takes to get rid of Henry.
Problem is that with him gone they still won't have Deans and I do not know who else there is to take the AB's forward.. Mitchell again possibly.

Unfortunately didn't see the game, but what happened to the invincible ABs?

This wasn't in the script at the beginning of the series. The Wallabies were supposed to be cannon fodder.

Would the NZ Rugby board give Henry his marching orders Nels?

NZRFU have no alternative but to stick with Henry until at least after the Tri-Nations and probably longer......but NZ public not in a frame of mind to accept his lame "inexperienced" assessment of his own players and the resultant loss...heck he's the one who forced guys like Collins, Masoe etc to leave for the NH by not keeping them in his new squad.....these guys would have risen to the occasion....so its a bit rich for mine

having said that the Wallabies showed how to beat the ABs, are a vastly improved team from last year and were playing at home....they shut down Carter, put pressure on the halfback, held their own in the scrum and moved the ball wide (then back inside on occasion with great results) attacked from everywhere before the ABs defence was set and their kick + chase was superb.....droppping the ball just outsied the ABs 22 and having a selection of players vying for the ball....some of this didn't provide good looking rugby but it was thrilling...and to be truthful to be there at the stadium watching it my Aussieness was coming out proud and strong!

To me Deans deserves most of the credit for this...he is allowing the Wobs to play a more natural running game (for them) and he has given guys like Giteau + Barnes + Tuquiri a head full of confidence in the backs and Rocky Elsom full licence to attack in the forwards

People have always complained about the Wallabies being short on experience and personnnel....but wouldn't Henry love to have a team with Waugh, Vickerman, Frier and Tamana Tahu warming the bench

sure the mass exodus of players leaving for NH has hurt the ABs but if you don't include them in your plans why wouldn't they chase the Euro and pound....Deans has managed keep the experienced players he needs there and blood new players at the same time....he's even found a way for the scrum to hold up for Chrisssake........just goes to show that he is a young man with young ideas and Henry an old man runing out of options because of his own actions

I saw the game on TV the other day; thought it was one of the best games of rugby I had seen in a long time. I hope NZ win at home next weekend, to make the game in Hong Kong between them on 1st November a real humdinger of a Bledisloe Cup decider. (Tickets on sale in Hong Kong on the 28th July).

To many outside of NZ the re-appointment of Henry and subsequent loss of Deans was baffling to say the least.
I for one was sure that the WC was Henry's swansong, win or lose. His age is against him in terms of hanging around for the next WC..
The rotation policy that Henry seem determined to stick with does not seem to be working either..
Anyway, next Saturday should be interesting .

Ellsom is out this weekend which will make a huge difference as will ABs at home (Eden Park)......I expect another great match....too close to call...

McCaw is back but probably not 100% and there are serious half back problems with both Ellis + Cowan injured .....Wepu has been added as cover

also first 3 choices at h00ker are injured so I won't be making a call on it

such a close series this year.....anyone can still win it!

Lauaki not in the squad, now why am I surprised???
This is going to be a big ask for the AB's. They need to lift themselves up after two defeats in a row.

The Aussies will miss Rocky Elsom tho, he was huge on Saturday...

I still have faith...I cannot think the unthinkable, and the AB's lose 3 in a row.

I was a week too early on my prediction, AB's by 13, with one try being a penalty try.
