3rd Test Match

England 341 - 5 at the end of play

Vaughan 166.
Trescothick 63
Bell 59 n o
Lee takes 2 wickets at the end of a hard day in the field for Australia.
A lovely innings from Vaughan.About time.

England well on top until the last few overs of the day when Brett Lee came back with the new ball to have Pieterson caught for 21 and clean bowl nightwatchman Hoggard. Flintoff tomorrow

What has happened to Jason Gillespie. He doesnt look capable of ever taking a wicket and to get hit for 41 runs in 4 overs is terrible. Bring on a new man,Gillespie's finished as a test bowler I feel.

Hey Dawsey, we both posted an Ashes thread at the same time so I just copied my post over here

Looks like a decent day at the office for England, though they got Hoggard with the last ball of the day.

The Aussies were a little sloppy in the field today, not like them at all. 500 by lunch tomorrow?

5555 It happens Steve.
I would love to see 500 up, but England have had a bad habit in the past of undoing all the good work with some sloppy play.
There is no way we should lose this test now,but can we bowl out the Aussies twice on this wicket to win it? I sincerely hope so

We will only know how good a day this has been when the Aussies have had a bat, agreed. But they looked pretty dominant to me, and the Aussie pace attack seems to be really struggling.

If there is nothing in the wicket for Warne in the morning it could well be 500 for England, but you are right, too many times they have thrown away a good position, so we should resist getting carried away just yet.

Good Solid Start by England

A good positive start by England although slightly spoilt by those two Brett Lee wickets towards close of play however, one of them was the night watchman.
Fantastic knock from Vaughan as he was due a few plus so nice to see Bell getting among the runs.
Five Hundred could be on the cards but as i have said before, this Australian team shall battle right up until the fat lady sings.

Bell looked far more composed towards the end of the day. The 'night watchman' did his job and we now have Flintoff to come, with surely instructions to knock them around a bit. Tomorrow will be interesting.

Australia struggling again.....Thank goodness McGrath & Lee were fit enough to take the field....good toss to win....McGrath had chances galore but Gilchrist had a day he would like to forget and McGrath missed a return catch and bowled Vaughan on a no ball.....in Test cricket, if you let chances slip, you pay dearly.

Vaughan batted beautifully....he is a classy player when he swings into top gear.

Gillespie has 4 days to save his immediate test career.

Australia must try and dismiss England for less than 450 or they are in real strife.

England get 444.......again like Edgbaston could have buried Australia with 500+..........Australia will need to bat well to get to this score.

Jones batted quite well this morning, and Flintoff never looked like getting out....then he did.

Warne wrapped up tail withouttoo much trouble.

Hayden very lucky to survive LBW early on

I think that ''no result'' is very likely. This is different to a draw, which I take to be a result with the same score. This nearly happened in the last test.

Could someone with more cricket knowledge than me advise?

115-4, it's that man Flintoff again. I was just thinking that one more wicket would swing it England's way. An hour or so to play now and Gilchrist in, a wicket before stumps and who would bet against them?

The follow on is looking like a distinct possibility now; Gilchrist was a huge wicket!

Clarke has crawled out of his sickbed so expect Harmison and co. to rough him up.

This England Team

England's young cricket team appears to be growing in confidence against a rather ageing Australian side whom (for the time being) i still regard as the best in the world.

However, how do you Aussies rate this current England Team as the series approaches the mid way stage ?

The rain has really ruined the prospects for England now
Shane Warne has saved the follow on for the Aussies. Only 199 behind now.
Good weather forecast for the remaining days but its a big ask to win this one now unless we can bowl them out quickly and score a rapid 250+ .
Looking like a lucky draw for the Aussies this time.
If it were a boxing match,England would be ahead on points after the play so far in these matches.

I rate the England side a very good team......the bowling attack is at long last a cause for concern to Australia's batting

Harmison.......very good bowler....now must carry this form o'seas
Flintoff.....bowling very well for an all rounder
Hoggard.....consistent.....recently came under unfair scrutiny l thought
Giles.....bowling well at the moment.
Jones.....very competetive bowler....gives his all

Batting

Strauss.....has issues....but he will not have to face Warne forever
Trecothick.....in very good form....good player
Vaughan....beautiful player when he gets going
Bell.....too early to tell yet....jury's still out
Pietersen.....could be anything....and of course very dangerous
Flintoff.....batting has been terriffic for an allrounder the last 3 years....and very dangerous as well.

Weakest Link....Jones the wicketkeeper (and calling him that is an embarassment to other wicketkeepers out there who are actually half good at what they do)......this guy could not KEEP a secret....another 2 chances missed last night in 14 overs.....not good enough, and England must sack him.

I know Gilchrist has also had a bad game, but he has been around a lot longer than Jones.......the purists will tell you Gilchrist has never been a top wotrld class keeper, but on most occassions he gets the job done....and then there is his batting.
