9 gone! Do England enforce the follow-on or not? I think they should, The Aussie openers will not have been expecting to be called into service quite so early. They must make them follow on surely?

Thanks guys this is great thread because I hate watching cricket and reading this keeps me up to date with the scores without having to, with a bit of aussie/brit banter to keep things amusing.

Just for you then Jonny Aus 81-1
Hayden c Giles b Flintoff
Langer dropped by Strauss, could be costly. England again bowling well and its going to be really difficult for Aus to get a draw from this.
Weather forecast is good so that won't save them.

Still 70 odd behind, don't know about lunchtime but the way they are going you may be right. They are into the last session now, another wicket before stumps and it could be a fairly early finish tomorrow.

We have seen the Aussie tail do pretty well though, so maybe there is some life in the game yet.

The Aussies are starting to build a score, England really need to get among them in the morning.

Hoggard was struggling this eveninig and Jones was off the field. Let's hope they can both bowl tomorrow.

This Australian team is far too good just to roll over and let the old enemy beat them by an innings, and as the current score card shows; That ain't going to happen.

I fully expect England to be set a target somewhere in the region of 230 and i anticipate another finish to rival the previous two encounters in this pulsating series.
This is fantastic stuff and thankfully we don't have to work on Monday

Nothing much has changed since before play yesterday.....Australia still with their backs to the wall.

I thought Ponting's actions were out of order.....England have been using the 12th man policy for years and years, and Australia never had an issue when they were thumping England. Poor form from Australia's Skipper, no doubt feeling the pinch.

Just as l was about to post how well Jones batted.......he misses a stumping late yesterday....yet another chance he has duffed....he basically cannot keep.

Some Interesting Stats:

Ponting & Haydens combined first innings stats: 8 Outs / 121 runs @ 15.12

Kasprowicz & Gillespie's combined bowling figures: 7 wickets / 531 runs @ 75.85

First wicket partnerships above 50: England 4.....Aust 2

Jones leading Gilchrist in batting average (who would have predicted this):

Jones.....33.33
Gilchrist....24.50

Australia's legends Warne & McGrath have taken 38 English wickets @21.13....that is 57.57% of all English wickets to fall......and McGrath has missed two tests. Where is Australia's bowling going to be when they both retire ?

Freddie Flintoff:

Interesting to compare Ian Botham's figures in the 1981 dubbed "Bothams Ashes"

In 6 Tests Botham made 399 runs and took 34 wickets

Flintoff so far has made 296 runs and taken 19 wickets

Pontings actions were wrong but is it right to bring on a specialist fielder to replace an ill teamate ?
think it will be hard but as we have seen the poms have trouble finishing it off
if the aussies can get 250 lead will make it a good game

They are effectively 11-5 at lunch, but we have seen the Aussie tail wag pretty effectively in this series. But really it should be an England win before stumps today.

England need 130 to win. Shouldn't be too difficult, but does anyone remember Headingley in '81 when Australia only needed 130 to win? Fortunately, I don't see anyone called Botham in the Australian XI (amd none that can match him either, or will I be made to eat my words?)

I can't watch, Warne is really putting England to the sword, 59-3 I think. Surely they can't snatch it now?

111-6, bloody hell! 18 to win for England and only the bowlers left (and that soppy wicket-keeper, about time he earned his keep)

Magnificent Stuff

Is there no end to the fantastic stuff that these two wonderful teams are producing ! Once again the entertainment level was sky high both Shane Warne & Brett Lee were quite magnificent in nearly nicking it for the Aussies.

England are probably marginally the better team however Australia with all their experience are the stronger characters.
This is a remarkable series with both sides playing their full part.

England 2 Australia 1 as we head to The Oval for the Ashes decider.

Yes well done to England......another great finish.....Warne put the fear of god into the English batsmen, and even Brett Lee bowled very well.

Geraint Jones..........missed another three dismissals......could have easily cost England the match.

The toss of the coin at The Oval will be absolutely crucial

They had Trevor Penny feilding last night.....and he is 37.....it makes plain sense to have a good fielder.....as l said it's been happening for a long time and if Australia had a problem with it they should have bought it up a long time ago.
