4th Test Match.

Countdown now to the crucial 4th Test at Trent Bridge.
England are certain to field an unchanged team whereas Australia are long odds-on to drop Gillespie.

This series really has captivated the imagination of the British Public and is proving to be the fascinating encounter which we all hoped for, and at last England having a real chance of regaining the Ashes

Let's hope it goes the same way as the last one, without the rain delay. England were so dominant they really deserved a win.

The Aussies don't know when they are beat though, the last two matches have been incredible. It will be tight.

McGrath ?

I am sure McGrath will play! It seems that guy needs to be on a stretcher before Australia are prepared to replace him, so important is he to their cause. Justifiably so; he has proved to be a magnificent player and a real thorn in our side Thank God his last ashes experience shall be at The Oval

What About The World 11 Team Only 2 Poms Selected
They Might Look Stupid If Poms Win This Series.
Selection Should Have Been After The Ashes

The majority of sponsorship for that mini series is coming from the worlds major cricket market which of course is the Sub Continent. So i am sure there was a minimum requirement of players from that area to be included, even though it means excluding guys like Vaughan & Trestcothick

Watch out for an improvement from most of the aussies.
The bonus for Australia, is that they know they have room to improve, while England are playing at pretty much the limits of their game.
With one or two minor exceptions, there is hardly an Australian Warne excepted who can feel proud of their performances in this sreies.
Justin Langer has looked in supreme touch all series but has a top score of 82 to his credit, while Ricky Ponting's 156 in the last Test was the sort of overdue flourishing that any one of the top seven is capable of.
Clarke 121, Hayden 136, vs Northamptonshire is just at the right time.

going to get a few Longnecks couple of dogs eyes and a few Mystery bags,
head home fed the dogs put my feet up and watch the first 2 sessions oh what a life and not the weekend yet.

18 no balls in the first session! Oz will have to do better than that.

England 129-1.

no balls a worry so is pitch think it will be a long test
next session very important for both teams game could be won or lost here me thinks.
pitch doent seem to be giving much to bowlers
think aust erred in not selecting mc gill and could pay for this dearly

Rain

Plenty of rain about today with Nottingham having it's share! Still good forecast for tomorrow with just a few isolated showers according to the Met Office however, the English summer weather shall probably ensure they are still playing on Monday.

Come On England

England 229-4 close of play.
Plenty of time lost today for poor weather,a pity as I could easily see over 300 scored on the first day alone. Vaughan must be kicking himself to get out to Ponting in the final 30mins. Australian fielding once again not very good.Vaughan dropped twice.

Australia have to get a couple of quick wickets tomorrow or the best they can hope for is a draw.Mind you a draw will suit Australia. I wonder how much we will regret not winning the 3rd test.

On a more positive note, the Oval venue for the final test is renowned for producing a result. I just hope the best side gets it

Yes and we will just forget the result in 2001 when Australia beat us by an innings and 125 runs......

They are two vastly different sides now Luke.
The more I see of England, the more I fancy them to win this series.

Dream scenario

Oh yes Dawsey I agree, this is the scene I see at about 3.30 on 11th Seotember (I have to leave early to get to airport, but I digress):-

England regained the Ashes when Stephen Harmison produced the most fiery spell of bowling seen on these shores. As well as regularly bowling at above 95mph, Harmison forced Ricky Ponting so far on to the back foot that he trod on his wicket, wrecking the stump cameras and microphones, fortunately for Channel 4’s complaints department given some of the language uttered by Ponting. Richie Benaud was for once lost for words, sitting in the corner of the TV studio mumbling an incoherent stream of syllables. Even Dennis Lillee admitted that this England team “weren’t bad”, a sentiment echoed by Michael Vaughan, never a man to get carried away.

Nightmare scenario

On the other hand it might go this way.....

After this humbling of England’s batting, the sports writers had an easy task, simply copying the famous Sporting Times report from 123 years earlier before hitting the pubs. ‘In affectionate remembrance of English cricket, which died at The Oval in 2005. Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and acquaintances, RIP. NB The body will be cremated and the Ashes taken to Australia (again).’ To lose one wicket to a rash attempt to hook Michael Kasprowicz over the gasometer is unfortunate; to lose five is carelessness. “We weren’t all that that bad,” said Michael Vaughan in his press conference. Dennis Lillee’s views cannot be reproduced

Innings defeat on the cards?

England first innings 477
Austalia 22-3

Hopefully we'll get a few more wickets before they close of play today, force the follow on and ......

Of course anything can happen

Boycott quote of the day "Of course that was out. Even a blind man had to give that out".
