If Australia bat through most of tomorrow and get enough runs it looks to me like a very nervous last day for England facing Warne
A draw still looks most likely result though,I cant see how England can win it unless Ponting makes a strange declaration. Remember Australia HAVE to win

I'm not so sure Luke, any further loss of play due to the weather will really make the chances of a draw very likely. Australia must up the run rate as they are still behind in their first innings and only 2 days left. Ponting may take a gamble and declare with only a small lead at tea tomorrow. That will give them a go at the English openers before the end of play tomorrow and then resume on the last day. If they do bowl England out it could be an exciting finish seeing Australia chasing a smallish total with very little time to get the target.
Definitely a good toss to have won for England.

I would suggest Australia shall score quickly today and then make a declaration at Lunch (weather permitting)
For the Aussies a draw means defeat so they must be ultra positive and we all saw how England collapsed under pressure at Trent Bridge.

What a turn up, no first innings lead for the Aussies. It does look like the weather will have the last word now though.

Definately not a cricket fan , but to me it seems strange that England may win due to bad English weather.

No Mr. Faulty. England may win the series due to being 2-1 up, assuming this one ends in a draw.

Ok, sorry, England will win the series if this match ends in a draw due to the weather.
The weather, however, played no part in the three games which ended in a result. Of those three, England won two and Australia won one. This scenario results in a 2-1 series win for England, regardless of the weather.

Well I had a wonderful day at the Oval - you wouldn't believe how dark it got!
Since we had the drawn test sown up, and the aussies were only saved by the weather, I think its only fair that England get this one saved by the weather, or would they have won it?

Whether England would have won it without the interruptions is debatable.
Without the cloud cover today, would we have shot out the Aussies for less than our 372? I somehow doubt it.
It was a great effort by Freddie and Hoggy today to get 8wickets for 87runs added.
IMHO England have been saved as I thought the Aussies could have won this one the way Saturdays play went. With good weather today, they were set for a huge score and could have made things very tricky with Warne bowling on a crumbling wicket last day.
For me the series was lost by Ponting putting England in to bat at Trent Bridge after winning the toss but losing their best seam bowler (McGrath) Why??. Good old Ricky I say.

Premature !
I think you are a bit premature with your thoughts Guy's, although the fat lady may be about to mount the rostrum, i can not hear any singing just yet
A few early wickets tomorrow morning with Shane Warne spinning the ball half a yard shall put the cat among the pigeons again.

A great team effort to pull off a deserved series win. I think everyone would agree England played the better cricket overall and were worthy winners.
Its the best series I have ever seen
Pieterson and Giles saved us today as it was looking a bit dodgy at lunchtime.
Big kudos to Australia for trying even when it was a lost cause. They will be a different team for the next ashes series in Oz and a harder proposition.
I felt for Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath today as they, like England, gave everything, and Australia should be congratulated for playing their part in a wonderful series.
Meanwhile lets enjoy a good victory against a country we seem to have a lot of trouble winning against,at any sport

McGrath was still firing at 90mph when it was all over! I will personally own up to a couple of changes of underwear today, great series.
I have to say that I thought they had blown it this morning when Warne got to work, but this England team seems to be made of sterner stuff than most of recent years and they earned the result today, and the series overall.
Great stuff but, jeez, it was tight.

Yes well done to England they deserved their Series victory......it's a pity Australia did not play with the urgency it showed this match, in Tests 2, 3 & 4. I thought they went up a gear this match, but it was too late.
I said in a post some time ago, that if Gilly didn't fire it would be close......he didn't and it was.
Wonder what would have happened if Warne had taken that catch......we will never know......did the genuis who took an unbelievable 40 wickets cost Australia the Ashes ?
England are going to put the fear of god into some test teams accross the world with Flintoff and Pietersen being able to maul attcks in the fashion they can...........just need to sort out a number 4, and a new wicket keeper, and bingo you have a very good team.....Giles does not take a huge amount of wickets, but he always seems to make a contribution along the way.
Australia will need to go through a slight rebuilding phase......nothing too drastic.....don't think Hayden can afford another 2 bad test matches in a row anymore....Gillspie and Kasprowicz are IMHO yesterdays news.
Endland are due in OZ in about 14 months.......that should be a huge summer.....might even have to give LOS a miss and stay home to watch the Boxing Day Test.

Just was trying to point out how cruel sport can be at times.
Had a friend who was a to cricketer take make 78 out of 133 in a Grand Final, then take 8/34.....only to drop a catch in slips with the other team one run behind, 9 wickets down......the next ball went for four.....complete injustice.

England's secret weapon....
"Britain's tabloids claim to have uncovered England's secret weapon in the Ashes [cricket] series - a woman who kept [Australian] Shane Warne up all night during the fourth Test. Julia Reynolds has told The Sun and Daily Mirror newspapers she left Warne exhausted after an all night sex session the day before he was dismissed for a golden duck in the first innings of the Trent Bridge Test. Australia lost the Test by three wickets as England took its decisive 2-1 series lead. Reynolds says she met the Australian leg spinner at a players' function and he wooed her with his traditional method - raunchy text messages, even during a rain break in the Test. She said after the five hours of passion, Warne was left "red-eyed and knackered" as he went out to bat the next day. "I wasn't that surprised he was out for nought because when he left me he looked pretty exhausted," she told the Mirror. "I guess you could say I've done my bit for England.""

5 hours.....yes it takes quite a while to teach someone "the flipper"
Warney announced in Oz some time ago, that he was moving to the UK on a permanent basis to get some privacy.......not sure what his thought process was there....555555......l dare say he will be back living in Melbourne before too long.
