Countdown to Final Test Match
Bad news today for England, two days before the start of the Oval 5th Test Match.
Simon Jones will NOT play after failing a fitness test on his injured ankle.
Given that England have called up Paul Collingwood or James Anderson to replace him its a big blow.
The Sun newspaper today suggested that whoever wins the toss, will be in the driving seat for a win. I fancy Shane Warne can make this "his" test. Its not known yet whether Glenn McGrath will play in his final Ashes match. I fancy he will. Whatever happens there the Aussies will rely heavily on Brett Lee and Warne.
On a happier note for England, weather forecasters are predicting rain will fall in London on Friday and Saturday I would rather the result is decided on the field, but as rain aided the Aussies at Old Trafford,I wouldnt mind if it helped England this match.

I say let it rain, England are in the driving seat and can only lose now. If this game is a washout then England win the series, and the ashes.
I don't think I can cope with another finish like the last one, it was like being a kid again watching Dr. Who; hiding behind the couch and peeking through fingers. I'm sure the Aussies will be firing this time, they don't like losing.

Amazing how in one post you could name two things North American's never understood, cricket and Dr. Who, throw in soccer and you've got the trio!!
Always loved Monty Python, Benny Hill and Mr. Bean though!!
But what the hell are bangers??

Would not be surprised to see 5 bowlers adding tait and mc gill
and dropping katich, toss will be very important in this game.
On the other hand the team may not change have not really done that badly, and blooding players now may be a mistake.
anyway looking forward to the match lets hope a result happens and not a draw.

Id be surprised if they dropped Katich AD. He was looking good until a poor decision got him last match. Also McGill got hit for 130runs against Essex last weekend cant see him taking wickets.
Hayden has been the huge disappointment for me. I thought he would be full of runs but no............. pretty rubbish.
Aussie of the series so far.......... Brett Lee. I love him (as a player )

No one, just kinda felt left out 'cause I don't know sh!t about cricket.
Kind of like sitting at the bar with a bunch of BG's all speaking in Thai.
I know they're talking about me but damned if I know what they're saying.

Let it rain. It will soften the ground for Warn and any how if McGrath plays the aussies will probably need less then 3 days to win after all they are only playing England.

I think they will stay with Katich as well.
As you mentioned Inspector D, the toss of the coin is crucial. Hopefully the rain will not dampen the finale of an exceptional series.
I even forgot till the other day that the final of the One Day Series was a tie.

Yep, you are probably right there. Last time I looked, Warn had an 'e' on the end and the vastly superior Aussies were, erm, 2-1 down in the series?

But its not
And an Aussie win will mean the series has been for nothing for England.
One thing is clear from this series though,Australia are on the wane, too many players reaching the end of their careers,McGrath,Hayden,Langer,Gillespie, Warne soon.
England however have put together a team that can stay roughly unchanged for good few years yet.
The Ashes are not won yet,but the future is brighter for England.

It may mean nothing in silverware, but its been a bloody good spectacle so far. It has reawakened an interest in cricket in the public. Its pushed football into second place (kick-off in half an hour to another mediocre performance, whereas tomorrow, if the rain holds off.....).

Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne took three quick wickets to wipe out England's rapid start on day one of the deciding Ashes Test at The Oval.
England's openers put on 82 runs in 17 overs before Warne removed Marcus Trescothick (43) and Michael Vaughan to catches, and Ian Bell leg before.
The hosts, looking for their first Ashes win for 19 years, went to lunch 115-3 after winning the toss.
Shane Warne has started like this on day one, what's he going to be like when the pitch starts to wear a bit. Are we going to lose the Ashes to one man?

He's got 5 now, looks like he wants to win the game on his own. What a player.

I had a feeling that Shane Warne would do something special this match. But I didnt expect it first day Absolutely the best spin bowler ever.
Thank goodness England won the toss and batted first. With the weather possibly coming into the equation, getting plenty of runs first was important.
319-7 wasn't bad but should have been more.
Overall Australia will be more happy with play today. If England score over 375 it will be hard for the Aussies to win from there. The session before lunch will be very important. Rain is forecast tomorrow, showers Saturday,a few possible showers Sunday and fine on Monday.

Too right, even if England win 3-1,regain the Ashes and go to Pakistan in October and win, we can only be classed as the best team in the world by successfully defending the Ashes in Oz in 2006/7.
If we can do that THEN we will rightfully be No1.
