aussie rules grand final

NO MELBOURNE TEAM IN GRAND FINAL,CRAZY BEING PLAYED IN MELBOURNE.
WHATS HAPPENED TO THE GREAT MELBOURNE TEAMS OF THE PAST ?

Eagles set up grand final against Swans

Story By James Dampney

Saturday, 17 September 2005: West Coast and Sydney will meet in the AFL grand final for the first time after the Eagles held on for a 16-point win over Adelaide at Subiaco Oval.

West Coast and Sydney will meet in the AFL grand final for the first time after the Eagles held on for a 16-point win over Adelaide in Saturday's preliminary final at Subiaco Oval.

The Eagles kicked five goals to one in the third quarter and fought off Adelaide's final-term challenge to advance to next Saturday's grand final at the MCG with a 14.9 (93) to 11.11 (77) victory.

It will be West Coast's first grand final since its 1994 premiership, while Sydney reached its first title decider since 1996 with Friday night's 31-point win over St Kilda at the MCG.

This will be the second successive grand final not involving a Victorian team.

Sydney coach Paul Roos attended Saturday's match and the Eagles' performance, particularly their third term, would have given him plenty to ponder.

Eagles midfielder Daniel Kerr was best afield with a game-high 31 possessions.

Daniel Chick and Ashley Hansen kicked three goals apiece for West Coast and Ken McGregor kicked three for the Crows.

Kerr, Chris Judd, Ben Cousins and youngster Adam Selwood again demonstrated why West Coast's midfield is regarded as the best in the competition.

Tyson Stenglein's tagging job on Crows captain Mark Ricciuto was also superb.

Adelaide's stingy defence was expected to be pivotal - instead, the Eagles backmen suffocated the Crows attack.

After McGregor opened the match with a goal before the ball had been bounced, the Crows could only manage another five goals to three-quarter time.

Trailing by 32 points, the Crows attacked desperately at the start of the last term.

But they could only manage four successive behinds in the opening 10 minutes.

The game then looked over when key position player Adam Hunter goaled to put West Coast 33 points ahead.

Adelaide refused to lie down, kicking the next four goals to trail by only nine points with less than three minutes left.

Well l'm from Melbourne, and yes the people in this town are complaining about another non-Victorian team Grand Final....second year in a row....but it's a national competition, so if interstate teams are good enough to get there, so be it.

As to why Victorian teams are struggling......too many teams in the one city is the main argument there.

and MAV I think the swans use to be south melbourne ?
The point is top grade AUSSIE RULES was only played in melbourne until what 15 years ago ?
at least AR is really a national sport not like rugby and league
loved it when melbourne won the Rugby League rubbed a few faces in it.

Big Barry Hall has been cleared to play which I am happy about even though I obviously go for West Coast. It wouldn't be considered a credible win without a full strength team on both sides.
It should be a great contest.

Not exactly, They dont play one game Gaelic and one game Aussie, Its a mixture of both together, Like they play with a round ball like in Gaelic and they have a goal in between the posts like in Gaelic (Not sure if they have this in Aussie rules?) where if you score you get 5 points, When they catch the ball they can take a mark unlike Gaelic, Also they play with four posts instead of two like in Gaelic, And the scoring is different, You get one for a ball inside the outer posts (A wide), You get three for hitting it over the bar in between the inner posts, And then you get 5 points for a goal etc..etc..

PS: Its a really good game to watch, Does be rough as fu*k though

Not sure about spread betting Jonny.........but West Coast Eagles are very slight favourites..........you can get on them at even money.....but they have to win by 5 or mnore points.........Sydney are even money, but they have to win by 3 or more points.

Does that help ?

I liked the chances of Dizelle, but it's last couple of runs have been slightly disappointing......Plastered is one that l will be closely watching (good omen bet for me as l will be plastered at the 4 day carnival ).....and Perlin is going well at the moment.

Of the overseas horses, l was impressed with Westerner's win at York this year......Vinnie Roe would certainly come into calculations as usual, but he is not getting any younger.

Will keep you in touch with the form IJ, as l go to the races most Saturdays.
