Amazing way to learn the Thai script - Unfortunately German only
Sorry to spam all of you, but I came across this German Thai newsgroup and
the Admin has started a great thread explaining the Thaiscript in an surprisingly easy way to learn. I've spent all Saturday night on it and have learned so much already, it's very motivating.
Bad news, it's in German only, secondly he did not finish the course.
But it's really great fun and almost addictive.
Maybe one of German (or Austrian, Swiss) BM's have seen a similar approach in English ?

Good site
This is a very good site for learning Thai:
Learning Thai Language the Easy Way!
Along with the book (+ 2 cd's) "Thai for beginners! by Benjawan Poomsan Becker I hope to learn decent time by my next visit to LOS in March/April. Yes I am an optimist, but this book is very good

Hi Tommy,
Yes, I've seen all these sites (Google top 100), but they have a complicated (and somewhat) discouraging method of teaching, or they are not complete i.e. They either have a nice way to draw the consonant, even with voice example, but fail to name it they way as kids learn it at school (go gai, ko kai etc.) and lack proper explanation.
Unfortunately, I assume you can't read German, otherwise you would know what mean by taking a look at the German site I posted first. I learned 10 consonants and 6 Vowels with perfect explanation and examples and various combinations in only 10 hours with fun. I swear, if he would have continued, I would at least master the 44 consonants and 15 vowels within a month (some other sites say there are 18 vowels ?). This guy turned the usual way of teaching successfully the other way around.
Now the guy did not complete his course, bummer...looking at all the other sites, I already start to see my learning pace slowing down ;-(
Yes, Benjawan Poomsan Becker book is mentioned a lot and I guess I will order it today. But the guy from the German site also found her method of teaching can be quite discouraging i.e. starting with complicated tones before you know anything else. But for sure I give it a try.
Hey Shark, what's your experience with this ... I would appriciate if you could check out the site I posted first and if you have any input where to find similar learning techniques, I would love to hear it !!

I know a little german, but apparently not enough to understand why his teaching method is so great!! If you do come across this method in English please let us know! Thanks

IMHO the guy did a really good job. His idea is to seperate the writing and reading from the pronaunciation. So the leasons are reduced to the absolute basics,no grammatik and also not important what it means at the beginning..He uses also the method how they teach it in the first classes of school, like go gai = chicken.
I use the wantana software, which also works with pictures to learn the words. Very simple is imho the best way.
A good site in my opinion, and i am happy its in my mother language
