Thai people in local hospital
Hi, can someone please help me with a question I have always wondered.
Do Thai people have to pay much money when they go to a local hospital? If so, approx. how much? I have always wondered since a Chiang Rai girl told me that her mother has got to go to hospital quite often and that it costs alot of money. ( I think it was a ploy to get more money from me, didnt work though............ ) I am just wondering about the cost involved, and so I know next time I see her.
Thankyou

Speaking with limited experience myself my guess is yes they do have to pay a lot of money for treatment etc(maybe someone else can verify?).
I was in a baht bus in pattaya one time when i saw a guy on the street with the biggest cyst you can imagine on his neck...This 'thing' was the size of a football..I asked the girl i was with why he dont go to see a doctor to get it looked at,her reply was "him not have money to go doctor"....

If you want real treatment yes you have to pay a lot of money.
I spent 650k in 5 months with Wifey and she died from a preventable illness !! The problem is its levels of competance, some are better than others, some are less painful than others, the Thai hospitals and the 30 baht healthcare are pretty shocking.. People die in those places for the want of 100 USD worth of care in a high end place.

I think firstly it is relevant cost to level of income, the Thai could go to a local Thai hospital and pay what we would consider a pittance to have the cyst removed but then he hasn't got any money, no money no op.
We chose Bangkok Phuket hospital for the birth of our tin lid, best hospital on the island but also the most expensive, majority of patients were Thai and paying the same cost as me, no Thai/Falang differential in the hospital.
However had we chose to have the baby in teelaks village and used her local hospital the cost would have been approximately 20% as much.

from my experience the turn up speak to doc, brief exam, get a few meds cost approx 300baht (in local hospital in phuket) - quite a lot for up-country thais.
I remember taking 9yo girl to doc near Udon (cut foot so a clean and a couple of stitches), it was looking like a couple of hundred baht - staff there couldn't comprehend when I offered 500 for no waiting .....

thankyou
I am always amazed by the people willing to share their knowledge on this forum. I thankyou for all the kind replys. In my case, I think the mother is pretty sick, so the money stated (about 25000 baht) might be way over the top or a figure mentioned over a long period of care in and out of hospital. I thought the amount was too much, so I thought I would ask you helpful blokes.
thanks
