Do you mean on Thailand historical and factual or Thailand anecdotal..

Phra Farang is an interesting read.. Gives quite a few insights into Thais and Thailand and managed to be a realist and pragmatic while still having an affection for the people and the country.

Yeah, the culture shock series are quite good. I've read the ones on Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. They give a nice insight on the culture and habits in these countries.
It might be a good read, especially for of you guys who (like me) are having a Thai GF. It may give some answers on questions you might have.

Les, strolling through the bookstore at the airport in Bangkok last Saturday, I saw a few books on this issue. To be honest my mind was somewhere else and I forgot the titles, but next time when you go, just have a look there. I think you may find something to your liking.

I would recommend a book called Very Thai. Lots of good pictures and explanations behind everyday things. I think it costs somewhere in the 900-1200 baht range. Amazon.com: Very Thai: Books: Philip Cornwel-Smith,John Goss

For book buying, I agree that the airport is more expensive - I'm sure all the bookstores have the same kind of deal, but you can get 10% off every monday at Bookazine if you sign up to be a member. They have one in Jungeceylon. Buy a few books and it's almost like getting one for free!

Cheers, Robaht

Smile Thailand Fever is the best book ever written on understanding Thai Falang relationshi

Thailand Fever is the best book ever written on understanding Thai Falang relationships. The whole book is written in both thai and english (one page english and next page says the same thing in Thai) so your Thai girlfriend can read it as well!

It really helped me understand my Thai GF!

Go to Intro - The Book - thailandfever.com It only costs $15.95!

Yes, I was pretty wrapt as I was going through that awful phase that you get in an early stage of your relationship where you ask yourself 'Is she for real or is she an 'evil Thai' that is trying to rip me off for big dollars.'

I am pleased to say that she was genuine and reading the book gave me an insight into her mindset and by her reading it to allowed her to understand why when I said I was happy to meet her mother that I meant just that - not that I wanted to marry her immediately!

It allowed us to raise issues such as money and family without anyone getting offended or judgemental.

Also I found it disconcerting that she wanted to marry me YET not let her friends meet me at this stage. This I found out was because Thai girls are supposed to go through a complicated long winded 'courtship' stage where they only smile at the object of their affection then slowly progress to more and more talking etc. Even though she was sure she wanted to marry me she thought that the Thais would think that she was too promiscuous if she announced anything at this stage of the relationship.

I hope all forum members find a 'real keeper' TG and get to experience romance Thai style....it makes such a nice change from the Western affirmative action 'women's lib' type relationship (ordering around) that I have experienced till now!

I have started to the book Thairiffic and you are certainly right, its a great book to understand your g/f's culture. I spoke with my g/f about it and she cant wait to read it as well - thanks for the info mate and for anyone interested in a relationship with a Thai lady I think its a "must read" book.

For those of you from Holland, Belgium or other countries who have Dutch as your first language...

Thailand Fever will be released within the next few weeks in a Dutch-Thai version as well. The first chapter is now available on internet.
Will definately get this one.
